Question on Ankle Weights

DirtDiva

Cathlete
I just ordered Butts and Guts and realized I don't have any ankle weights.

I was looking at Danskin's type with the adjustable weight, then the sand filled ones. What is everybody using, or are they pretty much all the same?

I don't know what brand I use but I bought them at Walmart. They don't need to be anything fancy. Mine are 2 1/2 lbs each. I had B&G for months (and used it a lot!) before I actually bought ankle weights. They're not necessary to do the workout, just so you know. It's hard enough as-is!!

Ditto what Allison just posted, the weights are certainly not a necessity, but don't be fooled into thinking it's easier without them!

Sweet! I'm very happy to hear that I don't need them right off because I have a feeling the weight of my shoes are going to be enough.

Thanks everybody!

I have adjustable ones (up to 10 lb) filled with grated steel or something. You probably can't go wrong with Danskin.

B&G was my first "Cathe-level" lower body strength training workout, so I'm sure it would've been super challenging w/o the ankle weights, but I'm so glad I had them to begin with! The strength gains happen crazy fast with them, and I'm looking forward to increasing the weight.

Enjoy your Butts & Guts! It's my favorite!!! :D

I have Ironwear (they are available under different brand names) adjustable ankle weights. They can be linked together to make a weight belt, and use the same heavy rubber weights as the Ironwear weight vests.

I much prefer the heavy rubber weights, which don't shift or leak like sand-filled weights can.

Whatever type you get, be sure to get adjustable ones.

I agree with Allison and Jerry. I have been doing B&G for a little while now without ankle weights and I have still worked pretty hard. I am just now at the point where I think I need them.

I have the sand filled kind. Somehow, they must have slits in them because the sand leaks out. I got them a long time ago, but hardly use them. Nothing like having sand fly all over you when you have to lift your leg overhead. Melissa
