Question......no laughing!!

Hey all you clean eaters!! No laughing from the peanut galleries but......I have recently (past 2-3 weeks) totally cahanged my diet. All white stuff is now whole grain or whole wheat. More veggies, protein, and fiber.
Well, my "stomach" has sure noticed the change! Is this normal and how long will it last??? I am losing weight again *finally*, but I feel bloated and gassy. I am sure it is the diet, but please tell me this subsides!?!?
Thanks guys! I will say I am enjoying the diet though. I am getting to the point of not wanting to eat bad stuff, meaning not craving it so much and being able to turn my nose from it. Pretty cool!

Hey Maeghan!

Don't worry, this too shall pass! Your body is just adjusting to the new diet and all that fibre! Isn't it great when you don't crave stuff that's not good for you anymore?:) I can't even look at white bread now, and I MUCH prefer the whole grain versions of pasta and rice. Everything has so much more flavour!

I agree with Shelley (and enjoyed her "passing" pun). Your body does adjust. Just be sure to eat in calm, peaceful surroundings, eat slowly and chew thoroughly. Gas indicates indigestion, and I know that for me eating on the run is a major contributor to that.

Good for you!

ETA: BTW, I used Beano for awhile, and it worked well. I don't need it anymore, but you may want to try it if your bloating is uncomfortable.

Thanks guys. Shelly, your funny! I figured as much, but was hoping I wasn't the only one.
I am getting to the point where I will be switching the whole fam over slowly. I made whole wheat pasta the other night and waited for my husband to finish his second helping then told him!! He couldn't complain then!
No more white bread. The kids will be easy, catch em when they're young and have no choice hehehe!!

Edits: good idea Nancy, I might check it out. Thanks.

That's fabulous, Megadoodle. My parents raised me and my brothers on health foods (to the extent possible in the sixties), and it really did make it so much easier to eat healthy as an adult. It's so much easier today with health consciousness being part of the mainstream now.

Hi Maeghan,

Isn't it great to know you're not alone in the bathroom?;-)

^5 on changing your diet and the weight loss.

Me too Maeghan, was wondering the same thing, lol. I am also enjoying the healthier eating, and the cravings are less intense and I am able to resist better.
Congradulations and keep going, I am right there with you!

Adina

p.s. Your boys are so cute.:)

Thanks Adina!
Glad to know I am not alone! I thought people were nuts when they said their cravings got better, but I guess they were right. It really helps once you start seeing results and you don't want to mess that up!!
Good luck to you too!

Meaghan,

I changed to a modified Eat To Live way of eating, lots of veggies, fruit and beans about three weeks ago. The gas situation just now seems to be getting better for me.

Some of my, um, issues with eating healthy have never passed, so to speak. Thru the process of elimination (sorry couldn't resist that pun) I have found that certain foods can trigger it. I love soy milk but it doesn't play very well with my digestive tract. I still drink it but a little more sparingly now. There's only so much you can blame on the dog.

Rice milk, almond milk, hazelnut milk?

I love "process of elimination". I've never been able to not think evil thoughts when someone says that. Also, "So what is it you do do?" I do do what everyone else do do's!! LOL

Meg, I have to confess you made me smile. I can relate to your deilmma. If we could harness this problem and say, run a hybrid car, I would be all set. ;) I was seeing a holistic Osteopath who recommened a Broad Spectrum Enzyme. It is sort of like Beeno except Beeno never worked for me. The thing with this one is it's enzymes help digest not only carbohydrate but fat and protein as well. It has also made me very regular and I know that this is a place where I can say that and not gross everyone out. It is called Spectrazyme by Metagenics and it works like nothing else I ever tried because even afer I had been eating complex carbs as a regularly :), I was still very gassy and we have no dog so everyone knew it was me.

OMG Truton...ROTFLMAO!!! It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who can't seem to get along with soy milk. Too bad, too...I actually really like it :p . In my case, it was the poor horses who got the blame...lol.

Sprouted bread -- as one other person posted, should help -- grains should be soaked and/or sprouted before eating, as they all contain anti-nutrients that block mineral absorption and phytates.

Enzymes is also a good suggestion, I think.

:)

I'm glad you posted this. I started weight watchers three days ago, and my belly hurts! I haven't been gassy, but my belly just hurts for about 30 minutes after I eat. It helps to hear that it might just take a few weeks to get beyond it.
