Question for the educated crowd...........

If you had a Gold's Gym opening up right down the road within walking distance from your house, would you join? I have even thought about maybe working there part time. Don't know yet, I may go this evening and check it out. It is only open till 8 during their promotional time the whole facility won't be open til Dec. 15, only the first floor with limited machines is open now, but you can join at a discounted rate now.

Thanks:)

I don't know. It all depends on the price...I've never been a huge fan of gold's gym or bally's (or the like). Too much lycra for my tastes.

I think at that rate it is worth checking out. The three factors that would be most important to me would be crowd, equipment available, and cleanliness.

i would join in a heart beat! i am in walking distance from mine(24 hour) except that its across the freeway. i only swim laps there and go as late as 9:00 or even 10!

I teach aerobics classes at Gold's Gym in Boston and their facilities are gorgeous! Tons of equipment, you never have to wait for a machine, and the classes are fabulous. I know I must sound like a walking posterboard for them, but I have taught at many gyms throughout my career and this is one of the better ones.

Can't hurt to check it out. The pricing sounds pretty reasonable.

Good luck!

Gosh Annette, I would probably try it out if they would allow a month to month payment for me. Sometimes I think I would be more social if there was a gym near me. :) Althought it would have to be maintained properly for cleanliness and equipment safety. ;) Good luck to you!

I think that is a GREAT price.. And if its a new facility at least you know that equipment will be nice to start.

I belong to a gym and also do Cathe workouts... its great to have both options so you can keep your training versatile.

I say go for it!! :) Lynn M.

I would do a trial thing, do some classes to see if you like them, check out the "vibe" which is important in making you want to actually use your membership.

Like one of the PP's said, I think I would also be much more social if I belonged to a gym. I always used to and have (within the last year) gotten rid of my gym membership and become s pure at-home exerciser. I miss the social connections I had at the gym as well as the variety it offered. I think you should definetely check this one out. They may have some great classes and the equipment should be brand-spankin' new!!

Let us know what you think. I think it will be a great investment!

You know, I've thought recently about purchasing another health club memberhip (LA Fitness and Ballys are both fairly close to me), but I just can't seem to get up the willpower to go in and talk to one of their salespeople. The whole thing seems so pushy and fake to me, and I can't help but feel like they're going to try to push me into a membership that I won't be able to get out of later. I mainly want a gym membership to use on the days that Cathe's rotations call for bike riding or something on the treadmill, since we have neither at home and the weather here is getting lousy (I'm in Seattle). Does anyone have any good recommendations on a gym chain that isn't so bad?

I am, as of today, joining core fitness (which used to be corey everson for women). I told them in the beginning if they can't give me a no-contract deal than I was leaving and would go elsewhere. They offered me a pay up front deal for 90 days. So, i paid $120 for 90 days, and in 90 days I will renew if I want to.

My point in that is that I know gyms have wiggle room about the contracts. Yes, they want you to sign your life away in blood, but if it means not having your money at all, they'll budge some! Core fitness told me I HAD to sign 2 years or go elsewhere. So I did go elsewhere. I then went back a week later and told them I really liked there gym but I would only come on a no-contract basis. They quickly said ok.

I don't like Gold's pushy sales tactics, sales people, or meat market atmosphere. That's just my experience although I have to say I was tempted when Gold's first opened. I opted to go with Planet Fitness that charges me $10.00 a month and I visit when I want to workout out with Coach Sean of Cardio Coach fame three or four times a month. I also like to hit the weight machines for a change of pace. I think Gold's is offering you a great price and it certainly would not hurt to check it out.

OMG yes! Especially for that price! Sheesh, I pay over $100 a month for my membership.

I used to go to a Gold's when I had my summer rental down the shore. Yeah, a lot of spandex, but their gyms are very well equipped & you'll find lots of new options for your routine.

Now I'm jealous! :p

I went last night to check out what they have available right now, which is limited. The 20,000 sq. ft of actual gym space won't be available till Dec. 15, they have right now 3000 sq. ft of must a few machines and free weights available to those who want to join now for the low price. You will be locked into the low price once the whole facility opens up. The price is all inclusive ie.. classes, machines, child care.. the only thing extra is tanning beds, shirts and the juice bar. It is owned by a family and they are running it. A wife and her adult son and daughter and the husband has done all the labor to get the building ready but he has another job. The lady (wife) I talked to last night was very friendly and not pushy at all. I tried one of the leg machines. I left it at I need to talk to my dh and see if our budget will allow me to join.

Thanks for all the feedback.
