Question about the weight work in Crosstrainer Express

Hi! This is my first post on the Cathe forum. (Finally figured out how to register. Woo Hoo!) I'm just wondering what the emphasis of the weight work in Crosstrainer Express will be. I know it's one muscle group worked per tape, but will the exercises focus on mainly strength-building, like the Pure Strength series, or are they more endurance-type, like Body Max?

Strength, I think

I'm under the impression that the reason the videos are one muscle part per tape/per day is to be able to really concentrate on building strength in each muscle. So, I guess that means they're more like the PS series. I'm hoping so, anyway

I have heard

that it's mainly strength. I don't really know for sure though. I remember somebody saying that in another post though. So Nell are you liking the forum? I love talking to newbies!! So many great people are here!! You'll get hooked really fast!! I'd better quit gabbing now. WELCOME!!!!!!

Strength vs endurance

Okay, what makes a workout more strength than endurance-focused again? The strength workouts are fewer reps and the endurance workouts are more reps? What if you were to do, say 5 sets of 8 reps each, with a rest between the sets. Is that more strength-focused than say, 3 reps with 15 reps each, which would be more endurance-focused? "(or is it?)

Hi Aimee!

Although, this is my first post, I've been lurking for quite a while, so I feel like I've already been here! This is a great forum. I love it!

strength vs. endurance

Although I am FAR from an expert, i think it has more to do with the weight of the weight (

) that you are using, than with the number of reps/sets you do. For example, if you are using a heavy weight and pushing your muscles to fatigue with fewer reps in each set (because you can only HANDLE a few reps), that is more of a STRENGTH workout than if you did the same reps and sets with a lighter weight. But wait, maybe that's wrong. the reps and sets do come into play--endurance is just that--you build up the length of time your muscles can handle a certain exercise. You use lighter weights, and go for a longer time. It builds up your ability to do everyday sort of activities. Oh, I don't know if I'm making any sense! It's amazing how you think you know something, and then you try to explain it to soeone else, and BAM you don't know a thing!
Hope this didn't make you crazy.

Strength and endurance

I'm far from an expert too and I think I know what Wendy is trying to say.Strength is when you go for a weight that you could only do 8 reps with and the last couple are a real struggle!! I believe you should aim for no more than 3 sets of 8 reps and that's all you could possibly handle. Endurance is when you could do about 12-16 reps again with the last few being a struggle and 3 sets of 12-16 reps. With strength you also take longer rests 1-2 min, between sets and endurance is shorter rests 30sec-1min between sets. I could be wrong, but I think that'a how it goes. We need Cathe to give us the low down on this one so we know for sure!

Couldn't Resist!!

Debbie how do you do that?

I can't even make any smiley, frowns, winks nothing!! I went to the help thing on here and copied down the info. Do you press everything at once or one at a time and the press another key? It is driving me nuts that I can't do em'!! HELP!!

Hi Aimee!

All you have to do for a smiley is a colon : then a slash - and then a parenthesis ) or the other way for a frown ( Be sure to put them right together with no spaces inbetween. It will NOT appear a BLUE smiley til you post it. You can practice by doing one, then hit preview before you post. Does that make sense to you? Give it a try and let me know.

Hi Nell !

It is actually a cross between the two. You'll be spending about 10 to 15 minutes on each body part with the exception of legs being about 40 minutes. Each muscle group will have about four exercises and be worked with somewhat of a lighter weight than PS Series. Yet, each muscle group will have more focus and intensity placed on it than Body Max.

These weight sections were created with the intention of targeting the muscle with the greatest amount of intensity in the shortest amount of time. They are a perfect compliment to rotate with the PS Series. You can go for maximum strength gains with PS Series and then ease off just a bit and go slightly lighter and a bit quicker with the Cross Train Series (for about 4 weeks). But based on certain factors such as whether or not you are new to weight training or if you have not lifted in a long while, your body will react and respond accordingly.

One body part per day!

Hi Wendy! Generally when I train one muscle part per day for maximum strength gains I like to go slower and heavier which takes me about 20 to 25 minutes. Being that I wanted to create Express Workouts which covered all facets of fitness in an hour or less, I chose to save this slow/heavy training method for a future video possibility. But don't underestimate the intensity of these express weight sessions. They are pretty tough

Did you say...

future video possibility???!

Can't wait! Seriously, though. Thanks for the clarification, and I'm so looking forward to working these muscles with the new tapes. I guess if you say they're "pretty tough", I'll be bed-ridden for a few weeks after my first attempt! WooHoo!

Did the same thing Wendy:O)

We don't even have the new ones yet and we just love the thought of more!!!

Oh, my Gosh!

I am *so* excited, Cathe! I can't believe that you actually personally responded to *my* post, and even used my name in the heading! (jumping up and down like a 12-year old). OK, I'll stop being silly now. The tapes sound like they're going to be great! Thanks for your reply! And thanks for the personal attention that you provide to your craft, it's very wonderful to see.
