Question about the fitness gloves

Abbygail

Cathlete
What is the weight for the Fitness gloves? I couldn’t find it if it is listed.

Could you also give us glove sizes such as small woman’s size 6 etc?

Also are they stretchy so that after we wear them a while they might slide around on our hands and thus might get a smaller size?

I know w lot of questions for one product!

I have the fitness gloves (I won them at the RT). They weigh absolutely nothing. On the package it labeled them as "cardio gloves" but I'm not sure what that means. I've been using them when I lift a little bit, but I don't generally wear lifting gloves, so to be honest, these aren't getting much use.

They're really comfy, though, and like I said, they weigh pretty close to nothing.

ETA: They haven't gotten stretched out or anything on me. I also think that they're one-size-fits-all. I am pretty petite and they fit me just fine.

Wow, I thought that they would be weighted gloves. That looked like the perfect concept for me (it they were weighted), as like you said they are comfortable. I was hoping they would have weights that were distributed throughout the glove to prevent them from slipping as you were punching or something.

Thank you Allison, for your input as now I know they are not right for me.

:( I so wanted them to be weighted!

Aren't there weighted gloves listed there also? My Q for the fitness gloves--are the palms padded? My hands get sore from the weights and I like to have some cushioning. TIA

There are separate weighted gloves as well. The "fitness gloves" are different--they're just plain 'ol lifting gloves (I think ;)).

Ok, let me try to explain them as best as I can...

They're not really "padded" per se. The material is just right--so that the gloves are comfortable, but not really padded, stretchy, but not too stretchy so that they'll change size as you sweat and wear them. They are my favorite gloves. They're not bulky or cumbersome or uncomfortable.

I wish I had more experience with lifting gloves so I could describe them (and compare them to other gloves) better. I'm sorry! Maybe once someone else buys them and tries them out they'll have a better explanation for you!

There are indeed both "fitness gloves" & "weighted gloves" for sale. I just re-read the description on the "fitness gloves" and there is no indication re padding in the palm area. I actually ordered both items last night and will gladly let you know @ that after I receive them, if someone else doesn't answer your ? first. :)

It was Xmas at my house today!!! :D The package came to my door just as I was making my way down to the gym.....What timing! :) I got to try my out my new vest and it ROCKS!!

PhyllisG - The fitness gloves are not padded. IMO, these are best suited for combo cardio & weight routines. Here's a link to the mfr's site w/a description: Atus Athletic

I guess I do not understand what fitness gloves are? What is their purpose? To protect your hands when weightlifting? But then too they are not padded.

As the word cardio led me to think they were to be used when doing “cardio” such as step. And in that sense I do not see their purpose when they are not weighted? That said they do look comfortable!

How I use the "fitness gloves"

Abbygail, I have used these gloves a lot, actually, and I find them very comfortable for lifting unless I am really going super heavy. I have a pair of Harbinger padded-palm lifting gloves that I use for heavier lifting (e.g., for S&H or for 4DS). But sometimes I've felt like the pad interfered with my grip around the barbell or the dumbbell. The new Cathe "fitness gloves" solve that problem so that I get a really firm grip, and I don't have to worry about my hands being sweaty and slipping at all.

Hope this helps! :)

Hi complik8td,

Please review - in detail - what you think of the weighted vest.

I wish the vest was pictured on a person.

We're all dying to hear...

Vikinyc -- I absolutely LOVE the vest! It's very comfy. Today, I wore it while doing the entire standing portion of GS Legs. The workout was GREAT for me! I'm currently trying to break plateaus, and the weighted vest was just what I needed. :) After I completed GS Legs w/the vest, I did GS Back, Shoulders & Biceps w/my new weighted gloves!! :D I'm actually looking forward to exercising tomorrow! New exercise gear always motivates me. ;)

There is a discussion here in the STS Forum re the vest. Some folks are looking for a weighted vest that's even heavier than Cathe's, as well as washable. I think I'm fine with the 10 lb. vest.... I don't want to risk injury to my back and am concerned a heavier vest might do that to me. I can always add wrist & ankle weights in addition to the vest if necessary. I'm very pleased that I ordered the vest.... and I am looking even more forward to the release of STS!!

Lisa!

Lisa, I think the fitness gloves are fine for moderate lifting edging into heavy lifting, if that makes any sense.

For example, today I did PUB and wore those gloves and felt great. When I was doing chest flyes with the 20's (that last pyramid-up set of 8), I did think that I could have used a bit more palm pad because of the pressure on my palm at the widest part of the flye motion. Other than that moment, I really liked the way these gloves felt. When I did the biceps curls and was eeking out those last 8 reps with the 15's (which is the tippy-top end of what I can use for biceps, so I was huffing and puffing), I was very glad that I DIDN'T have a palm padded-glove on -- I felt better able to really grip the dumbbells securely without having to squeeze them at all, since my hands fit more comfortably all the way around them.

If I were going to do S&H or 4DS, or even, say, the back work on the Gym Styles where that barbell gets pretty heavy, then I'd put on my gloves with the more padded palm.

I guess, in short, what I'm saying is that I think these gloves are a really useful addition to my "gear" collection. :)

Thanks for the response, yes that makes sense. I think it's the barbell that is causing a lot of my issues, and your post confirmed it for me.

TarHeelMom,
Thank you! Yes that did help; and based on your description I am going to order them.

One more question though. Could you tell me the size you ordered and what size your hand is so I might get the right fit?

Hi complik8td,

Thanks for the review of the vest. Sounds good. I have the WALKVEST which is great for walking and jogging; but you really can't bend (comfortably)with it on because the individual wgt. plates are vertical and kind of stick you in the ribs.

Cathe's vest looks and sound good - I'm considering it.

Thanks again for the info.

Abbygail!

Hi Abbygail! I am 5'4", small-boned and have long hands with very slim fingers (sadly, even though I'm small-boned my fingers, my wrists and my calves are the ONLY things about me that are slim right now! :D). I tried these gloves on at the August Road Trip and the Small was very snug going onto my hand, so I opted for the Medium -- much easier to put on, and plenty snug on my hand and fingers. I've worn these gloves four or five times now to workout and so they're broken in, I'd say. They aren't stretching or losing their shape. I really like them! :)
