QUESTION ABOUT ROTATIONS, PLEASE!

Can someone, Cathe, or anyone else, clarify the rotations for me. I was trying to explain them to a friend of mine and she didn't quite get that no workout is repeated throughout the 4 weeks.

She thinks that a rotation should be repetitive - for example:

M - B&G
T - Run
W - 4 Day Split Kickbox
Th - IMAX
F - Pyramid Upper

then a different run the next week and repeating week 1 on week 3, etc.

I could not figure out how to explain Cathe's rotations!

Help!

Thanks a mil!

Hi Syzgy! The more fit you become the faster your body adapts to a given workout routine. Once the body adapts to a workout routine the results slow down quite a bit, so the key is to keep things changing, keep your body guessing and responding. This keeps optimal results coming.

By changing the workout daily, your body never knows what to expect and works extra hard trying to keep up. A routine that doesn't change often is certainly not a waste of time but the more the body is exposed to that same sequence the less sore, winded and challenged it is. But its not to say by doing the same routine for a few weeks your not getting results, your just not getting optimal results.

However, I personally prefer this "constantly changing" approach for the more intermediate and advanced exerciser. As a beginner I think staying with the same workout a few times helps establish a foundation of understanding, mind/muscle memory, control and body awareness, and overall confidence. As a beginner is exposed to all kinds of workout formats and gets a good understanding of them, I think it is then better to make more frequent changes to keep their mind and body challenged and of course their optimal results coming.

Thank you Cathe!

She just had me at a total loss for words! I tried to spit that out, but just couldn't quite frame it well enough. I hope you don't mind me just cutting and pasting this into an e-mail to her! I could never say it this well myself!

BTW, I'm enjoying great results from STS! My only trouble spot is my abdominal area, but that has always been the hardest area for me to trim up anyway!
