Question about position for back rows?

Cathlete
I just finished Back, shoulders, and biceps and was wondering about positions for the 2 back row moves. Do I have to lean forward like Cathe and crew? I do not feel stable either way, using a step or chair. Can I do a standing split stance, like in XTRAIN? I don't know if it's because I'm taller, but it's hard to lean forward like that and I just want to make sure I'm still working the muscle right in a split stance. Also, just wanted to comment on how much I am loving these new workouts. After the last set of crazy 8's and Cathe high fived, I also did it and my dogs started jumping on their hind legs as well. I feel a great pump in my arms and I feel awesome being able to finish that last set of crazy 8's. Just wanted to share my excitement with you.

I did the split stance and bent at about a 45 degree angle. I don't feel stable going at the 90 degree or so that Cathe does. I think as long as you still feel your back you will be OK. If I am wrong, please correct me.

Doing it the way Cathe does- down with a flat back is harder. I can do it that way, but don't like too. I must lower my wt to do it that way. I usually opt for the 45 degree version. I actually put my foot on the step and bend forward resting the opposite arm on the knee. I have to protect my back and this feels good to me. Do what ever version feels best to you. Different positions work the muscles slightly different. The most important thing is do what is right for you :)
