Question about IMAX

AlisonK

Cathlete
This question is for Cathe or any of you out there who can give me some advice. My question is about the best way to approach IMAX when doing it the first few times. I tried it today for the first time and got all the way through it

(with MANY modifications hehe). I lowered my step to 4" and did the modifications on the intervals (actually I cant even remeber the 9th and 10th intervals but I must have done them since I made it to the cool down lol. Im wondering whether it is better to approach it this way and be able to make it all the way through it or if I should increase my intensity and maybe make it through less intervals? I hope my question is understandable. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I consider myself at an intermediate level so I can see I have a long way to go before I can do this whole thing at full intensity. I am in awe of those of you who can!

I want to thank you Cathe for your incredible videos and great advice. Also to everyone on this board. This is my 13th week of working out 6 days a week and I have never felt better and more accomplished. All of you inspire me everyday. Thank you

YaHooooo Alison!

I don't think there is a wrong way or right way to approach Imax. Either of the 2 ways you suggested would work. I personally did what you did the 1st. time through (modified) and then each time I do it, it seems like I can add a little more to the workout. I think it's great that you made it thru your 1st. time and lived to tell us about it~~LOL!! Congratulations on your commitment to working out on a regular basis. As you can see, it SURE PAYS off in the way you feel!! You'll also notice when you take a break that you will be raring to get back at it. Good Luck & keep up the good work!

Hi Alison!

Your enthusiam for fitness is radiating right through the computer screen----GOOD FOR YOU!!!

Both methods that you mentioned are effective. Each approach will challenge you differently so its actually a good idea to "play around" and do it both ways. Keep up the great work.

Interval Max

Hi Allison,

I too just bought IMAX and received it just in time to put it in my rotation schedule.

I know what you mean about making it through but not with the intensity of Cathe and her gang. I have always been an avid exerciser and it was a tough work-out. It amazed me how light on their feet Cathe and everyone looked during the last interval, that was the toughest one for me. We have a dance floor area with mirrors (my girls love to dance) and I exercise there also. I sure didn't get as high as Cathe did with her jumps or look as graceful. Now I have one more goal to work towards.

Congrats on your commitment to exercise!

Lynn

Thanks !

Thank you Cathe for taking the time to respond to me. Also thank you to Debbie and Lynn for your responses and support too

All of you are just so helpful and kind! Iam officially adding IMAX into my rotation! I am determined that someday I will actually be able to do jacks and jumps like Cathe does in the 10th interval

Oh by the way, IMAX is my 21/2 year old son's favorite video now! He was in the room with me when I previewed IMAX and he jumped all around the room with Cathe and tried to do jacks like she was hehehe

I sat there amazed at both his and Cathe's energy!! Next time I want to wear him out I think Im going to pop that video in

Hi Alison!

That is so funny about your 2 1/2 year old doing Imax along with you. My 4 year old son also starts jumping around with me when I do a step video. In fact one day (when I was at work) and he was at home with his Daddy, he popped the video in the vcr (it was MIC), then went to the closet and pushed the step into the living room, took his clothes completely off and started following Cathe. My husband said it was so funny!
By the way, the reason he took his clothes off is because he has seen me change into my workout clothes and I guess he knew he was suppose to change his clothes first, and since he doesn't have a workout outfit, he simply went natural.
I might call and order Imax sometime this week. Do you find the choreography simple or tricky?
Take care.
Lisa

Hi Lisa!

Cute Story!! It just goes to show~They watch our every move!! I have IMax and love it. I would say that the choreography in this tape is pretty basic, not too tricky. If I remember right, Cathe even says that in the video. It is all-out intense though. I have had to modify certain intervals but trust me, the heart rate stays right up there. Good Luck~I know you'll be glad you ordered it.

Hi Lisa!

Lisa I just about fell off my chair laughing while I read your post this morning

Your son sounds adorable! As for IMAX I definitely found the choreography very simple. There are only a couple of new moves and Cathe teaches them in the short step routine in the beginning of the workout. Im kinda slow when it comes to learning complex moves so if I can figure it out the first time through I know its pretty easy

There is also something about doing intervals that, to me is fun and seems to make the workout go by pretty quickly. Still at the same time it is the most challenging Cathe cardio tape I have tried yet. I would definitely order it! Thanks for starting my day off with a good laugh

Thanks Alison and DebbieH!

That's all I needed to hear. I'm probably gonna order Imax this afternoon. I will be thrilled just to make it thru the first 2 or 3 intervals.
Everybody says that this video has great music, and it's amazing how much harder I will try when I have good music to workout with. I guess that's why I love Cathe's videos so well is because of the great music. Oh yeah, and Cathe and her crew's figures are a little inspiring too!!!!I want to look like Rhonda when I grow up. Or would that be when I grow down and lose 20 pounds. Oh well.
Have a great weekend!
Lisa
