Question about High Step Challenge

Is the High Step used primarily for leg presses in High Step Challenge?

Here's my dilema...my Christmas list is too long and I'm trying to weed things out. I don't own the official High Step but I've rigged something up at home using my regular step with all four risers and a stool to balance the other side. This works just fine for leg presses, but it would not be stable enough to jump on. Is there any aerobic activity performed on the High Step in High Step Challenge?

Should I stick to my home-made "high step" and get and extra dvd (it would be BM2) or do I really need to purchase the high step topper?
Thanks!

Save yourself the money and buy the Topper. That's what I did and it works just fine. In HSC, you did the fast foot shuffle and it's easier to learn with it. BM2 is worth the purchase too.
Have Fun!!

Jennifer is right. The topper makes sense, but BM2 is really great. Remind Santa that you were extra good this year...:7

What I'm wondering is if I need to purchase the Topper at all (I can make my own "high step" at home). I only need the topper if there will be any kind of cardio moves on the high step...are there?

I'd rather not purchase the topper if the high step is only used for leg presses.

sorry I was unclear,

The high step as a high step is used only in leg presses. I don't have one and have been using this workout with my regular step, even the leg presses since my doc told me I shouldn't do them on a high step anyway. But the workout is doable w/o the high step

Andrea, High Step Challenge uses the high step for much more than leg presses. Cardio: stepping on/off with kicks in each direction, repeaters, etc, then toe taps onto the step, etc. Looking at the chapter titles should help you out:

Yikes! Do you do all that Cardio on the HIGH step (with all 4 risers in place) or do you lower the step?

She changes it up, using 5 risers for the step ups and 1-2 risers (6-8 inches) for the cardio. If you enjoy Cathe cardio, this one is a fun workout.

So fun that I think your posts have inspired me to do it today! :)

Thanks Amy, this information helped. It sounds like I could do the workout with my step (modifying it for higher step ups) but it would probably be a whole lot easier and less frustrating to have the topper.
Have fun with your workout! (I did Body Max today):)

I agree with you Andrea that the topper will make the workout flow a lot better. Do you have 5 risers or 4? Cathe uses 5 for most of her workouts that use step-ups but there are a few (like ME) she uses 6 risers.

I appreciate this information too. Now I have to decide whether I want the convenience of the High Step Topper (to make the workout flow) or forgo the topper, do the workout with a little more hassle, and get BM2 instead! (You should see what I'm like with REALLY big decisions!) :D

I only have 4 Risers, but I'm still deciding on the topper issue. I may try the workout with what I have. Even though it might be a bit of a hassle, it sounds doable. Then I can get the BM2 dvd that I've been dying for! I can always get the topper later...maybe for Valentine's Day - how romantic;)

Amy is right, the high step is used in the cardio, but not as a high step, just as a 4-6 inch square step. When I do this I can easily modify the cardio with my regular step. I also have a "high step" made for me by my DH and when I do use it, I just set it up out of the way but close enough that when a DVD comes to that section, it's convenient. If you don't mind a bit more set up time, get yourself BM2 and a high step topper can be a very romantic valentine gift:)

Yes, this is exactly what I decided to do...just couldn't resist BM2. My DH placed the order tonight...can't wait for Christmas!

You won't regret it. It is such a fun workout. Funny, I just emailed my wish list to my kids and they have the topper or High Step Training to choose from!
