question about form

Cathe,
I have a question about plie squats. Should I be sitting back like in a normal squat but with a wider stance, or should it be more like a plie from ballet where your bottom goes straight down? Is there a difference on where these two positions will target? Thanks for your help.

Allison,
It should be done like a plie from ballet, toes out. (hence, plie squats). That will focus in on the inner thighs appropriately. You should remain upright through the torso and focus all of the pushing up energy into your inner thighs. If you are in the proper position, you shouldn't even be able to do a squat sitting back.

I know what a plie from dance is supposed to be, but in watching the videos it appears that Cathe is doing more of a normal squat(bottom back) but with a very wide stance. I was just interested in getting opinions about the two different stances
