pyramid core pushups

Where did you see it mentioned? There are a lot of variations on push-ups, but I've never heard this particular term (it could be someone's name for a move that we DO know, but don't recognize).

One possibility: a "pyramid" push-up is a term some use for a push-up done with the hands in a triangle position (thumbs touching and pointer fingers touching, so when you look down, you see a triangle or pyramid). I'm not sure what the "core" part of the description would add, if anything, to this move.

In BC, we do a push up then raise our glutes up to a pyramid positon, then into a pushup again. That's the only pyramid push up I've ever heard of.

Hi boxer,

In Cardio and Weights Cathe does a push up into a pyramid then a side plank. The pyramid push up in this instance is going from a traditional push up into a v shape, where your hands and feet remain on the floor and you butt goes up into the air. Something like the pikes on a stability ball but with out the ball. I hope this helps.

I think that a pyramind core pushup is when you put your hands in a pyramid, with thumbs and forefingers touching and the remaining fingers splayed out for balance. Your hands are directly below your chest and shoulders, not out to the sides like in regular pushups. It works the core big time, as you really need to hold your core tight to maintain good form. You would probably need to start on your knees first so you don't fall out of position and build up the strength for the full move. It took me a while to get from knees to feet only, still a killer. Good luck!

If I recall properly, these are done by Cathe in the abs portion of either Muscle Endurance or Cardio & Weights (something in the Intensity Series) where you do a full body push up and on the up motion you push up your buttocks/hips into a down-dog type position and then straighten out for a full body push up.
