Puzzle Mats - Do They Insulate Noise/Vibration?

sln

Cathlete
My workout room is right next to the room where my son sleeps. He's 4 years old. Sometimes I would like to workout either after he goes to bed, or before he gets up in the morning. But we have hardwood floors in our house and I'm afraid the jumping in vids like in the Imaxes would be too noisy and wake him up, or prevent him from going to sleep. Would puzzle mats help to insulate the hardwood floors from noise/vibrations? Just mulling this over. Any opinions? - Sarah

I dont have puzzle mats, but I think they may slide on hardwood floors. So, I would put a peice of carpet down then the mats over it. It should insulate enough sounds where he'll sleep soundly. Plus, you'll get the extra impact absorption. -TIna

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I'll grab a carpet remnant and some puzzle mats and try jumping around some. Should be fun! :) - Sarah

RE: Thanks!

I have puzzle mats on wood and they work very well. I live in an apartment building so am very worried about the noise for the neighbors below. I'm quite confident they hear nothing. It's also much better on my knees, as the puzzle mats act as shock absorbers, as well. I've even dropped a 12 pound weight on them and not had any issue. I highly recommend them.

Hi

I've seen the puzzle mats at Dick's Sporting Goods - I think other sporting goods stores might have them, too. I hope that helps. Edited to say: I saw someone on here say that Dick's has them on sale - 12 squares for $20. I'm not sure how much square footage that covers. - Sarah

RE: Hi

Hi, I just bought interlocking foam tile at Wal-Mart - for $17.76 for a pack of 6 - each tile is 2' x 2'...so I bought two packs for a total of 48 sq ft...

I hope these help as my knees have been killing me and I am trying to figure out the culprit...

3 years of step on an 8" riser at the gym and knees were never sore...I am guessing it is because I do step in my bedroom and the carpet on top of padding on top of concrete is what is the cause of my knee problem...

well now I can find out for sure - if my knees are better with the use of these mats then yeah!

RE: Hi

I love my puzzle mats and they are quieter than the floor alone. I use mine on tile and they don't slide. They do reduce the effects of impact very well. Good luck with your knee issues. I think they will help! =)
