Pure Strength and Slow & Heavy -- switch from vhs to dvd???

Hi,
Okay, while I still have pre-order free shipping, help me make a decision. Here's my question: for those of you who have switched PH and S & H from vhs to dvd, is it worth the extra expense? Why? I have both series on vhs, and I use them quite a bit. Other than not having to rewind, are there major advantages to the dvd? Thanks in advance for either helping to enable or not helping to enable me!! Carol

I'd have to say that for these two series, the main advantage of DVD over VHS is that you don't have to do the workouts in the precise order that was originally produced. For example, I like to turn both of these series into a two day split rather than three day. With the DVD, that is very easy to do. However, with VHS it would be a pain to have to fast forward to whatever body part you wanted to work next.

Also, if you like to tack on one or two body parts to a cardio workout, DVDs makes this an easy task. If you are the type that prefers to use the workouts exactly as created, then perhaps it's not worth getting the DVDs right now.

I think that eventually, as all VHS tapes, it will wear down with normal wear and tear. This will enforce you to make a decision. I know that the DVD's are more pricey, but the long term is the key for me. Plus you can flip through the DVD with a touch of a button, vs the rewinding of the VHS player.

I made the switch from VHS to DVD on S&H for the exact reasons listed above. Never regretted it. So much simpler.

Thanks for your responses! I also like to do a two day split instead of a three day with Pure Strength, so I often do both upper body Pure Strengths on the same day. Just curious -- how do you do a two day split with these workouts? Thanks, Carol

Easy.

You might do:

day 1: S&H chest, back and triceps

day 2: cardio

day 3: S&H legs, shoulders and biceps

day 4: cardio

etc.

I never do upper body on the same day as lower. So, this for me would remain a 3 day split. Often, I do chest, back, biceps and triceps on the first day, then 2 days later do shoulders and then I repeat this again in the week by doing shoulders, back, bis and tris with chest on it sown 2 days later. I throw cardio in around this and often do a small CTX cardio before upper body weight training. I may extend my week to 8 or 9 days to make sure I have adequate rest between workouts.

I have twice done all the S&H upper body sections on the same day. It takes about 2 and half hours and is exceptionally draining. I only did that after I had already been doing S&H for 5 weeks so I was very used to it.

Not sure I recommend it though because I felt quite light-headed and week at various points!! Doing all the S&H uppers on the same day is a way different ball game todoing all the PS uppers on the same day. Not for the faint of heart!

I have the Pure Strength series on video as well. Although I do have to fast forward to the sections I require, I don't think it's a huge deal. I mean, yes, it would be faster to have the DVD, but in reality, it only takes a couple minutes. I'm strapped for cash, so when I do make a purchase, I always end up choosing to go with a new Cathe workout, rather than replacing my old videos. I'll probably do it one day when and if I have more disposable income.

Thanks, Clare, I think I'll try that rotation this week -- even with my vhses. The ab workout on the Bi/Tri is one of my favorites as well. I'll see how all the rewinding works out with the vids, because, as you state Sophie, I do not have unlimited resources! [But, I am a person who asks for workouts for EVERY holiday that includes a gift!]

I feel u on the cash strap....do what you gotta do..
