pure barre

OMG! I did this workout this morning (pershing square 2) and it was tough. I had to take several breaks as i thought my hips were going to burn right off my body! If you like ballet barre types of workouts, this one is excellent!

I did Pershing Square 1 yesterday. Today? I discovered muscles in my legs that I didn't even know existed! Ow! However, I feel like I'm getting a much better leg workout with the Pure Barre, Lotte Berk, and Bar Method than I do with the Cathe workouts :)( sorry, Cathe), so I'll probably stay with these on leg day. In fact, yesterday I was reading the threads on Low Impact workouts, and it really interested me. I just finished STS (6 mos) and was getting ready to hit it again (3 mos version). I decided that I would stop my "plan" today (beginning of new year), and do a month or two of Pure Barre and other like DVDs.

Are you working Pure Barre in with a rotation of any sort?

Heather

i was thinking of just doing a cardio and pure barre/physique 57/yoga workout as i'm having some joing issues with traditional weight lifting. i was going to do about 20 min of cardio mon-fri and tag on one of the ballet workouts or yoga. how do you plan on utilizing these workouts.

I will probably continue using Cathe for upper body - I have a smaller upper body and if I don't continue to build/tone I don't look in proportion. The Pure Barre and like DVDs are REALLY working my lower body and they are VERY joint friendly. I will probably use workouts from Meso 1 and Meso 2 and do the upper body workouts 2 x week and the other days use the Pure Barre and P57. I also ordered the Essentrics workouts (this forum is really causing my credit card to get a workout! lol!), so I will incorporate these, as well. I forgot.....I have Powerstrike and enjoy that, too (more lower body). I like Meso 3, but I seem to get more out of Meso 1 and 2.

Do you have STS Cardio?

yeah i have STS cardio. Its awsome! I can't wait unitl cathe posts how to use them throughout the week. I have the essentrics workouts too and like them. what type of cardio are you going to do.

I find the Pure Barre workouts challenging. I almost didn't buy the second two DVDs because the set was so horrible in the first DVD-- Carrie was wearing a black outfit against a black background. Sheesh, I could barely see what she was doing. I am no ballerina and I need all the visual help I can get. ;)

The first DVD Pure Barre produced is still my favorite so far (I wish she would remaster it or something), but the other two DVDs are excellent workouts for sure (I'm glad I purchased them). Carrie can definitely put out tough workouts! As Cathe would say she can sure get my legs "shaking like a chihuahua"--especially in Pershing 2!

Right now I just started to do another round of STS so I'm not sure how I'm going to fit my barre workouts in. I may be doing mostly flexibility type moves on the barre for a while, but I'll work them in even if they are short routines. I certainly don't want to loose the benefits I've gained from using it in the last few months.

Trudie Styler is coming out with a ballet/tone type DVD in March (barre)--it looks interesting and I'll probably buy it (for some really odd reason I found I really like her Yoga DVD which is odd (I find it calming) because I usually prefer Ashtanga type Yoga practices).

PS. If anyone does have recommendations for short barre routines (less than 30 minutes) that I can use as add-ons please let me know. (Two that I can think of right off the bat are Physique 57 express and Fluidity hips and thighs, but I can think of others.)

PPS. Heather please let me know how you like the Essentrics DVDs. I was considering it but wasn't sure how much barre work was in it and/or if it was really good. I have one season of Classical Stretch which I sometimes use and enjoy as an add-on but out of all the discs only one workout even uses a barre.

As far as cardio goes, I will do a lot of Powerstrike and Cathe's KB workouts. I figure, too, that on days I don't want to do an UB workout with a Cathe DVD, I would use weighted gloves for the KB. We also have a treadmill and an elliptical, so I would use those for cardio, as well. Has anyone tried using the DVDs by Violet Zaki? They are pretty good cardio to use if you want a light cardio day.

I am really looking forward to getting my Essentrics DVDs. I've read a lot of good things on them - hopefully, I won't be disappointed. :D

I have the original Pure Barre and think that it has the toughest standing leg segment of any barre workout on dvd. Yes, the set is a bit "homemade" looking but I don't have any problem seeing what Carrie is doing. She's in black, but the background is medium gray on my TV so the contrast is fine. Maybe it's not starkly contrasted, but there's no problem seeing what she's doing. Maybe your TV contrast is can be adjusted??

I love Carrie in this workout--great cues, not too much chatter & she delivers a serious leg/glute burn. I like the music too.

I am getting so enabled.....:eek::eek::eek:

Is the Pershing 1 or 2 better? I'd like to try just one before getting both. Thanks!

Have you tried iballets? They are just as hard if not harder then PS.

What do you guys use for you "barre"? I was thinking about getting some of the barre workouts, and thought that the power tower would be a good option...

I have seen a huge difference in my butt and hips and the entire leg with using Squeeze and the the two Cardio Barre dvd's. I am Hooked ! Since reading this thread I ordered the Pershing square and essentrics. Cannot wait. Just one question though. Is anyone having knee pains?

Thanks,Amy
