I just wanted to let my friends here know how Punky is doing.
I am PLEASED to tell you that we went to the vet yesterday for a blood test to check the kidney values and his creatinine (indicates how well the kidneys are functioning) was 1.8 which is in the normal range. When all this started his creat was 6.5. This is when I was told he would not likely survive. His BUN (indicates how well his kidneys are filtering the waste I think) is still high at 51 and I'm told this is possibly due to the now chronic kidney disease (and too much protein in the diet) and the BUN fluctuates even in a normal dog (though I doubt is hovers between 45-55 for a normal dog). His Potassium is in the normal range now as well. BUN is the only thing that is high and of course his RBC count is low as anemia kind of follows kidney disease. We are giving him subq fluids 2x daily. Not fun but necessary for now I guess.
That is all the technical stuff for those who are interested in that but for those just interested in how Punky is doing....... he is doing GREAT. He is just his normal self through and through. He plays, he eats (still working on this to get him to eat what he needs to eat rather than what he wants to eat, lol) and he hugs and loves and barks and absolutely fills our hearts with joy. It is amazing. I honestly believe he has drawn my DH and me even closer together as we prayed and cried during all this. He is an amazing dog. He made 7 people smile yesterday and he wasn't even trying. I'm so happy he is doing so well. I just love him so much.
Thanks for letting me tell yall about him.
