PS & MIS in Same Week?

I just got MIS and PS. I did the three PS videos this week (finished the 3rd one today) and was planning on doing MIS this friday. My plan was to do a Cathe week followed by a Firm week going for that "muscle confusion" thing. But I got to thinking that perhaps I should do Cathe and the Firm in the same week since the Firm is more for endurance and Cathe's more for strength.

What does the "educated crowd" think? For example, instead of doing MIS (haven't even done MIS yet and already I'm thinking of excuses not to do it!) I would do a Firm AWT and then next week I'd do MIS in place of one of my AWT tapes (I've been doing 3 a week).

BTW, after a few months of Firming my endurance is actually pretty decent but I need to gain a lot in terms of strength. I can't use weights that anywhere near as heavy while doing PS as I do when doing a Firm.

I've been doing a rotation Jilly bean gave me. The first eight weeks look like this:

Weeks 1-8

Sat: PS CST + CTX Step Intervals (cardio only)
Sun: PS BBA + CTX 10-10-10 (cardio only)
Mon: PS SLA
Tues: IMAX or cardio tape of your choice
Wed: MIS
Thurs: Cardio Kicks
Fri: OFF

You can see the first eight week uses all the tapes you were asking about. I find the week flies by as far as working out goes. MIS is really not that bad. I think IMAX is the toughest tape I do of Cathe.

As for the FIRM tapes, I really can't speak to that because I've ditched all my FIRM tapes and do just Cathe. I've seen the best results since doing so.

Anyway, good luck!

Susan-
That sounds like a very interesting rotation. But what IS a rotation? How did Jillybean come up with this rotation; by that I mean what factors go into making up a rotation? Is it based upon what results you are looking for? Why are rotations only good for a certain number of weeks and how is it determined how many weeks? I'm very new to Cathe and I'm just trying to understand the concept. Thanks in advance for shedding any light you can on this for me!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-12-02 AT 05:52AM (Est)[p]A rotation is simply an exercise schedule or plan that's been mapped out to follow for several weeks. They are mostly based on the results you're looking for.

If you were new to Cathe strength tapes, for example, you may want to go on a "rotation" of doing MIS twice a week for 6 weeks along with four days of cardio mixed in. After six weeks, switch to something else.

As for cardio, it's important to have a mix of high intensity and low intensity, plus different forms of cardio, for example, not all step tapes.

Keep in mind that no rotation is written in stone. Feel free to tweek as needed, and remember to be sensible and to know your own limits.

On doing MIS & PS in one week...my personal opinion is that it's not necessary. Just the PS tapes alone are enough. Cathe designed the PS tapes to each be done once per week without the need for additional weight work. Same goes for the Slow and Heavy series.

Honeybunch- did you mean twice per week?

I agree that each PS tape was meant to be done once a week. I have a body that responds great to working muscles 2 or more times per week. That is why I threw in MIS the mix. Rotations are great for people like me who need to stick with a set of tapes for a certain amount of time to figure out what works and what doesn't. And I don't have a lot of time to work out, so this means cutting down on my cardio and getting the most possible out of each workout. Perhaps Jennifer or Eminemz will find that working each part once a week is sufficient. And no one can argue with Honeybunch's philosophy, "Get in there, do an hour, and get out." Amen.

No, each tape was designed to be done once per week. It's optional to do them twice per week, but their original intent was to be done each once per week.

Too often a gung-ho approach to exercise just leads to burn out and/or discouragement. It's best not to overdo it.....exercise not longer but smarter.

My understanding is that Jillybean does the PS series and the MIS series so that she can work each body part twice a week. I was hoping to do the same to get some strength gains as well as muscle mass in order to kick up my metabolism.

I took the suggestion from another thread though, that I had posted on regarding leaning out my lower body, and now do Leaner Legs instead of MIS on Wednesdays. I have to tell you ladies, I had FORGOTTEN how difficult Leaner Legs was! I couldn't believe I was struggling so much. I must have been using much lighter weights the last time I did it regularly.

Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I do believe, like Honeybunch, that too much exercise can lead to burn-out. I try to exercise smart, and if one day I'm feeling tired and it's a high-octane exercise day in the rotation, I just back off and do as much as I can.

This forum is filled with very educated people and you can always find someone to answer your questions! They have been very dear to me, and very supportive! I can't even tell you how much I appreciate it!

Susan-
I agree with you about the forum being filled with educated people who are very helpful and supportive, and I appreciate it also. I've got an awful lot to learn!

I have done rotations with MIS & PH in same week and PH and PS in same week. I see noto problem with it.

Also, this week I did a rotation of :
M: Body Max
T: Intervals on recumbent bike
W: Firm Cardio
T: Intervals on treadmill
F: Firm Strength
S: (tomorrow) Cardio Kicks of Rhythmic Step

After doing mainly Cathe for a while, Firm Strength was a challenge, however I used MUCH heavier weights than the firm girls (8,10, 12 & 15's).
I thought it wastime for a mix up after a summer of primarily PH MIS and Circuit Max.

Take time to enjoy those who matter most to you & do all things in moderation :)
