Proper Workout Attire for Gym

I may be going to a gym either today or tomorrow to try a Body Pump class. I haven't been to a gym in years. I have workout clothing that I wear at home which I know will be okay, but what about panty lines. At home, of course, I don't worry about this. Do I need to worry about this in a class setting? Or does anyone in class even care?

personaly, and this is just me now, i could give a crap less what i wear or look like,as long as i am covered and comofortable. just remember you are there to workout. if nobody likes the way you dress the heck with them. you wear what makes you comfortable.

Ditto what the others have said. You wear what's comfortable for you! Don't worry about what others may think. I used to go to the gym at 5am every morning - I had bed head and pillow face. Panty lines were the least of my worries! ;) No one else cared what I looked like anyway - thankfully, because I looked like hell! :)

Nah, nobody cares. Most people at the gym are concentrating on themselves & don't much care what other people are wearing or doing.

I've only ever noticed twice what people were wearing at the gym. The first time was when there was a women who was about 8 months pregnant wearing nothing but itty bitty shorts and a short sports bra, and the second time was when a guy was lifting weights while wearing dress shoes (the kind you wear with a suit). As long as you are not "way out there" with your clothing choice, I doubt anyone will pay much attention.

Shelbygirl, That is funny about the guy with dress shoes. I had to laugh at that one.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Oh yeah, Shelbygirl, you're right. The one thing I do notice is when people wear either not enough clothes or clothes that fit too tightly. Like a voluptuous woman (I'm so tactful, aren't I? }( ) wearing just a bra top & bike shorts. Yuck. Or a man wearing those stupid cyclist shorts in a spin class. DOUBLE YUCK! Talk about TMI..........x(

uhm... what are you supposed to wear to spin class?

(hmmmmm a cyclist who has grown used to riding with men in cycling shorts! heck.. i rode with 8000 of my "closest" friends.. in cyling shorts.. at the tour de palm springs!)

cute work out clothes are good for AT LEAST an additional 10-15 calories burned!

bet you would look better in them then the men who wear them

I prefer wearing a thong when I wear tight gym clothes, but that is just my personal preference...... I just don't like showing panty lines. I am sure no one will really notice anyway;-) they will be too busy sweating up a storm!! I've never had a chance to try a Body Pump class...... it certainly sounds like a lot of fun!!

Ha this brings back so many memories for me. At bit embarrasing if I reflect on it for too long!

In the 90s we had a gym at work. This was during the thong over leggings and sports bra type tops. You guys remember tha? As a single Mom with young kids this was totally my social outlet so I spent all my money on those outfits. I think I had 15 outfits. Geez!

I was part of the lunch crowd (stylish) the morning was the (long shirts and leggings). I had to pick up my kids so never did the after work one. Anyhow interesting dynamics the lunch group we'd be dressed to kill (pretty darn scantily clothed - looking back at my clothes - tucked away in my dresser drawer - thinking they may come back in style) and then back into the corporate world!

Thanks for your post! It brough a laugh to my day!

Oh, I remember those thong outfits. I had a ton of them as well, thank God they went out of style. Now I just wear boot cut leggings and a top with a bra inside. I don't wear underwear at all, most of my pants have underwear kind of built in. If they don't I will wear a thong.

Uhm, you're supposed to wear regular gym clothes to spin class. It's not like you're riding the Tour de France.

I don't go to spin class, but I've seen more than a few people show up at the gym in bike shorts. A bicycle seat is a bicycle seat wherever you go. Bike shorts provide that nice bit of cushion. I don't see what's so ugly about them.

What's so ugly about them is they leave absolutely nothing to the imagination. I do not need to know what a strange man has going on between his legs.

I get it:eek: I see your point. It's funny because there is a huge selection of bike shorts available for men that they don't offer for women. They actually make some that look like regular shorts. I wonder why men wouldn't opt for that style.

This has become an issue for me because this Thursday I will be teaching my first step class. I'm used to wearing whatever I want when I'm home alone working out, but now 30 people could be watching me!!! I hate to workout in pants because I get so hot, but the lighting in the room is so bad it makes me look washed out and highlights everything I hate when I wear shorts!! What's a girl to do? Plus I can't have VPL in front of a class so I must wear a thong which isn't the most comfortable way to exercise IMO. It's actually kind of annoying to me that I really have to plan out what I'm going to exercise in!
I feel like I have to buy tons of new w/o clothes now on top of all of the $$$ I've spent on music. Man, I think in the end, I'll have spent more than I'll ever make teaching!!
