Progress, not Perfection !!

Deanna, thanks for constant water reminders! I've had about 30 oz so far and working on another 16 oz now that might do it for me today, or as Susan said, I may float away!

I did about 2 hours of yard work and then didnt feel too energetic, but I did a 45 min Tae Bo workout and just walked in place when he did the boxer shuffles. It wasnt my best workout, but I did something at least.

Food today...been hungry all day, dont know if it's true hunger or me just being pre-occupied with food! I'm trying to cut back on carbs/starches/processed foods but those of course were what I was craving today!

B--low sugar instant oatmeal and 3 slices of bacon
L--half an apple with fat free caramel dip and about 10 almonds
S--had a microwave single serving Minute Rice (my carb craving calling!)
D--havent eaten yet but have planned a Dijon chicken breast and steamed green beans

My hubby is trying to eat better too, so that is helping. He's one of those tall, skinny guys, but with a bit of a gut that he'll lose by eating Baked Doritos instead of regular ones!! Dontcha just hate that??!!

I'll check back later to see everyone's updates!

Per my rotation, tomorrow will be 30 min of cardio and shoulders from 4 Day Split. This rotation only has abs only twice a week, I think I'll aim for 3 times a week. I used to work abs almost everyday in my younger, thinner days and never had a problem with that!
 
Hey Ladies, I am getting ready to leave work. :)

I have been pondering over my rotation again and I have changed it again. This is what I have now.

Day 1 Monday - Cardio
Day 2 Tuesday - Upper Body + Abs
Day 3 Wednesday - Lower Body
Day 4 Thursday Yoga or Stretching
Day 5 Friday - Total Body
Day 6 Saturday - Cardio

I keep going back to what Fitnessfreak said about resting your muscles 24-48 hour between workouts. Since I did Intense Cardio yesterday instead of working my legs with Butts and Guts maybe I should do Upper Body and Core and do Butts & Guts tomorrow? I don't know I am confused I need guidance. :(

Deanna, I think with rotations, you should use that as a guideline and always listen to your body. Low Max is pretty lower body intensive so it makes sense to do upper body and abs today. As your lower body gets stronger and your endurance increases you'll be able to do more. I, for one, do have trouble doing lower body and cardio back to back b/c of my knee so sometimes I'll make use of Cathe's premix and often do cardio/lower body circuit premixes.

Deanna, I agree with you and Stacy, the switch up makes sense, since your intense cardio was so lower body challenging.

Susan, good luck w/ clutter. I moved house a about 2 yrs ago after 10 years. We got rid of stuff, even tho I am always trying to reduce. Books are my downfall, plus years of homeschooling, I had enough curriculum to start a school. Thanks for asking about knee, it is better, but after a step workout I can feel it. I don't know if it will go back to what it was before or if I am always gonna have to watch out what I do. Running actually hasn't seemed as bad for it as stepping. ?? IDK why.

Stacy, good for you for getting your workout in on top of leaves. How do you make your chicken breast dijon?

I am so sleepy, ready to head to bed.
 
Evening Ladies,

I completed Muscle Max Upper Body Push/Pull and Core Max Stability Ball. I burned 477 Calories with those dvds including my walk at work today. Unfortunately, I will have to return Muscle Max because it skips between exercises. :( Its not my dvd player because I played Core Max after Muscle Max and it did not skip one time. My Core is burning again I hope I am not in any pain tomorrow.

Well I am going to take a shower and rub some Bengay on my Core and call it a night. See yall in the morning. :)

Good evening !!

I had a productive de-cluttering day !!! Not only do I have my stuff, but after my Mom died in 2003 and my Dad died in 2005, I cleaned out their house and brought a lot of stuff to my house. It's only now that I can really go through it and get rid of a lot of it. I got rid of a ton of stuff when I cleaned their house out, but I brought a bunch home with me because I couldn't bear to part with it. But adding Mom and Dad's stuff to my stuff means much too much stuff !!! So some of it has to go :rolleyes:

FnV - yes... books... lol. Everyone in my family has a ton of books. So in addition to my books, I brought a lot of Mom and Dad's books home. I kept trying to get my brother to take some stuff, but he lives in Australia and he said the shipping costs are much too high to be shipping stuff to his house so he barely took anything except what he and his wife could fit in their suitcases.

Anyway... I got on a roll and never did get to the gym to do my treadmill walk. But that's okay, because I got a workout doing the closets and boxes. And.. it proved that my back is a whole lot better !!! I still have a long way to go, but I made a dent.

Deanna - I like that last rotation you posted. I like it a whole lot. Very balanced and well spaced out. I'm sorry to hear that your Muscle Max DVD is defective. How did you like it though????

Stacy - How about adding some ff Greek yogurt to your lunch with your half an apple, caramel dip and almonds? I just don't see enough protein in your lunch. Just a thought. But I find that protein keeps me full-er.. than if I skimp on the protein. And you need the protein to build strong muscles !!

2 hours of Yard Max and Tae Bo? Wow !!! Way to go !!!

FnV - so happy to hear that your knee is better !!! Yea... we are all getting healthy again.

Stacy - how's your wrist? Must be okay if you raked leaves for 2 hours !!

I'm heading to bed. Another busy day of decluttering ahead of me tomorrow!

Deanna - I kept my water bottle with me as I was going through boxes... not sure how much I had.... but I kept hearing you tell me to drink my water. Thank you. I really do need reminding about that.

Susan, I love cats, especially good one that are friendly lap cats. I have two dogs now, but if I had endless supply of money and time, I would have a cat or two as well.
 
Good morning !!

Lap Cat (Ella) and I are just finishing morning coffee. FnV - I've always had dogs and cats... love them all. I had to put my precious dog Christie (14-years-old) to sleep in spring 2010, and one of my cats (18 years old) in Dec 2009 and my other cat (16 years old) in 2008. Needless to say, I was devastated. And I thought I was finished having pets.... but....as fate would have it :D an absolutely gorgeous cat adopted me.....

In February 2010, I saw her sleeping under a shrub in my back yard every night for weeks. She wouldn't come near me, but I put food out for her.. which she ate. It was cold out there and we had an ice storm, but I couldn't approach her. Eventually, I was able to sit on a chair on the back patio and put the food down about 6 feet away and she would come to eat with me sitting there.

Long story short, she eventually (about 6 weeks) let me come near her and I grabbed her right up. She has happily been a house cat ever since. And I didn't want her to be bored, so I went to the animal shelter and adopted another beautiful baby... my little Lap Cat Ella... to keep her company. So now I'm back to having 2 cats....

okay... I'm off to tackle the closets and boxes.... a.k.a. Decluttering Max :p I'd better get my water bottle.....

Morning Ladies :)

I did not want to let ME bed go this morning because I do not want to go to work! I have to make it through today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thrusday) and I will be off work 4 days. :)

It is suppose to be windy in Vegas today, which means I may not be able to enjoy my walk at work. As you know Vegas is in the desert and when the wind blows so does the dirty and everything else.

Morning Susan,

I can't really give you a honest review of Muscle Max because the dvd skipped between Every exercise. Everytime Cathe would finish one exercise the dvd would skip to another exercise which did not give me time to get in the next postion for the next exercise. All I can say is that I am not happy right now. I have heard you talk about Muscle Max and I read that it is a good Total Body dvd, but my experience yesterday was negative.

Still awaiting a reponse via email from the support department.

Hey Ladies received the following response from Cathe support team "Does the DVD have any obvious scratches or smudges on it? Also, please clean the dvd and your dvd player and try again. If that still doesn't work, please try to play the dvd in another player. Although other dvds play fine on your player, each dvd disc is different and I just want to make sure it is not the player. If I send you a replacement disc and its your player, the same thing will happen."

I will try the above suggestion tonight after my workout and see if this will fix the problem. If not it looks like they will send me a replacement dvd. :)

Lower body is on my rotation this evening. I am finally going to give the Butts & Guts dvd a try. I have been talking about it all week but as you know changed my rotation.

I have not heard anything from the running team. I was advised that they run Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. If I do not hear from them by Saturday, I will see if they are running by my house and just join in. :)

As I said earlier, my upper body is sore from the little bit of Muscle Max I was able to do yesterday.

Well, I am still at work will post this eveing after my workout.

Good news on the DVD. I knew they would replace a defective DVD....

I need to go watch one of the premixes for Muscle Max. I have only done it straight through.. not a premix. A thought just crossed my mind that because it's a premix that changes up the sequence of exercises (because you said you did the push/pull premix) that maybe it's the fact that it is chopped up pieces that is making it seem like that. Or is it more than that????

I really haven't done any premixes.... I don't think... so I'm not sure what the effect would be from them taking bits and pieces from the original to make the premix.

Did you try playing it through from beginning to end to see if it skips if you play it that way?

Does that make sense or am I babbling incoherently ..... lol

I'm tired... been running around all afternoon... filling up my car/trunk and delivering stuff to Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity. I'm about ready to call it a day and go put my feet up and watch TV... cause that's about all I have energy to do at this point...

Edited to add: I really like the looks of Butts and Guts... from the preview clip that I watched the other day when I saw it on your rotation. I've added it to my wish list for next year. No more DVDs for me this year.. lol

I can't wait to hear how you like it !!

Deanna...woo hoo on the compliments! That is great news, give yourself a high-five you've worked hard and the results are showing!! Good luck with Butts & Guts, I have done only premixes, doing the whole thing straight thru bothers my knees. You should definitely do the ab work from B&G sometime, it's great!!

Susan...how's the back?? You're inspiring me to clean up my junk room upstairs that I've been putting off, oh, for about 10 years now!!

FnV...how are you today?? Any workouts on the horizon?? Hoping all is well with your daughter.

As for me, it was definitely a "just do it" day. I did NOT feel like working out after work, but I came right home, changed my clothes and did 25 min ride on the stationary bike, followed by abs and then Shoulders from 4 Day Split. Tomorrow is leg day, not sure what I"ll do yet there. Maybe the floor work from Karen Voight's Great Weighted Workout or maybe the lower body workout from Slim Series, or maybe a B&G premix....hmmm

Eats today...pretty decent, did have a brownie that someone made at work, yummy!

B--Bagel Thin with reduced fat cream cheese
L--tuna fish with 4 wheat crackers, low carb yogurt and a brownie
S--6 almonds
D--grilled pork chop, and green beans

My husband weighed himself and he'd down 6 lbs since Monday, that bum!! I'm happy for him, but seriously, it's just no fair, it takes me about 10-12 weeks to lose 6 lbs!! Grrr!!

Guess what? I was able to take tomorrow off as well so I am going to have a 5 day weekend. And trust me it is well deserved, because I am tired. :)

There is NO WAY I will be able to do Butts & Guts straight through, no way! I did the overall leg workout. This section is 65 min in length and I did 50 minutes. My buns are on fire. I hope they feel like my core did a couple weeks ago. I burned a total of 500 Calories today and that includes the walk with co-worker.

I beleive the Premix is chopped up in sections like Susan said earlier. However on the Butts & Guts, when Cathe was going to change exercises there was an insert telling you what the next exercise was going to be and what equipment would be needed. That did not happen on Muscle Max, the next exercise would just start with no warning.

I like the floor exercise on Butts & Guts, I am going to start inserting those exercise whenever possible. Hopefully this will lift and round my Butt the way I want it to be. ;)

I do not know what I am going to do with myself for the next 5 days. Of course I am going to exercise everyday and I guess I could spring clean one room of my house per day. I am also going to try and catch up with that running group so I can walk/jog with them on Saturday.

I know the time I am spending on exercise will change once I get into a serious long term relationship. I find relationships demanding. The same with being a single parent for 18+ years, my time was limited with work, after school activity, doctor appointments, homework, etc. When my son graduated from HS, I realized that I did not have anything to do so, I revisted my Cathe dvds. Maybe God will bless me with a man that is active and we can participate in activities together.

Enough of that, I will see you ladies in the morning or afternoon depending on what time I decide to get out of bed. :)

Good news!! I'm down 4 lbs since Monday!! I know most of it is water weight, but it's good to see the scale move!!

Today I'll be working out before I go into work. I'm going to do the 1 hour long Firm It Up workout from Slim Series. The first half is many unweighted squat and kicking combo's (there are NO lunges which is great b/c my knees dont like them), the 2nd half is floor work and abs.

It's going to be rainy and in the 40's today so I'm planning on making soup when I get home from work. I found a recipe for something called Iberian Potato Soup. It has onion, garlic, a bay leaf, chicken stock, diced potatos, diced low-fat smoked turkey sausage (my modification) and chopped kale. So, fairly diet-friendly. I find chopping veggies and making a soup very therapeutic after a long and stressful day at work! (Enjoy your days off Deanna!!)

I agree that chopping food is therapeutic, but decluttering my stuff is even better. It gives my "environment" a clean slate.. just like my eating and workout clean slate. I've procrastinated for 6 years about doing it. I still have stuff in boxes that I brought from my parents house.

FnV - how's the statistics class coming along? Hope all is well with your daughter !!!

My plan...... my back is feeling really good.. finally. sooooo

Today I have a doctor's appointment... no.. not my back.. it's my annual physical. And since I'll be out and about anyway, I'm going to do a bunch of errands that need doing before my friend arrives for her visit next week.

And on the Susan Rotation, Friday is my day off.. so I'll continue the Great Decluttering Project.

Saturday, I'll resume my regular workouts !!! Yea !!! I'm excited !!!

I'll only have a week to do them though because once my friend arrives, I know I won't be working out much... if at all. After her 2 1/2 week visit, I may have to start all over again.... But... we shall see... I won't worry about that now....

Deanna, are you sure DVD was skipping? I was just thinking, as I re read the thread, maybe in that workout she moves very quickly from one exercise to the next?
If you watch it on your computer, it might be easier to see what is going on.

Susan, no change w/ my dtr. Stats is going better, I am caught up and doing well, I love my graphing calculator. : ) Good luck w/ your projects. I'm pretty much starting over now, I have had more than 2 weeks w/ very few workouts.

Good morning !!!

FnV - great job on getting a 4 mile jog/walk/sprint done !!!

Even though today is my scheduled rest day (after doing almost nothing but resting for the last 12 days... lol), I'm tempted to go to the gym and do some treadmill today as a warmup for tomorrow's total body workout.

I was thinking last night..... yea.. dangerous for sure :rolleyes:.... about how I used to eat when I was my normal weight..... And one thing that struck me was that I used to have a plate... a dinner plate... and my meal would fit on that plate. Some protein, maybe a potato or some kind of rice side dish, one or 2 veggies... maybe a salad on the side.

Somehow.. I have gotten into the horrendously bad habit of having several bowls/plates for my meal..... hmmmmmm..... that certainly represents how my portion sizes have grown over the last 15 years..... along with most Americans and most restaurants.

Sooooooo.... from now on, I am going to have all of my meals on one medium sized plate. For instance - a pork chop or some chicken, 2 veggies, maybe one small red potato..... or some protein and a small salad and one veggie.

One meal... one plate.... lol

I'll let you know how it goes..

Okay.. it's 7:00 a.m. and I've been awake since 4:30..... did not sleep well last night at all.... that's unusual for me.... I may have to go back to bed for an hour or two...
