PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION: JANUARY 2013

Happy New Year!

My first workout of the new year was Cathe's Chest and Back from STS Mesocycle 3. I've never done the M3 workouts before and I think I went a bit too light, but seeing as I havent done anything substantial for awhile, I took it easy so as not to get such bad DOMS that I cant move! M3's upper body workouts are exactly the same each week except you drop reps and up the weight each week by 5%. Cathe was using 35 lb dumbells for chest flies in this one, holy moly!!

My workout focus will be more strength training this year. Until my workout-ADHD kicks in, I'm planning on doing a reverse STS rotation M3, then M2, then M1. In between each mesocycle I'm going to do a week or two of circuits.
 
Happy New year! Hubby went into work for a few hours, and his boss gave him the rest of the day off. The work trip is still on but he can't get any information about it from the PTB, like when to be at the airport for his flight. :mad:

Laundry, Tabatacise, and fun with Hubby planned for today! :D

Burnsets or supercuts for tomorrow.

I also did a craft project. Since my Xtrain workouts come in one big dvd case, I emptied individual cases and made covers for each of them with red and black markers so they stick out. I learned my lesson last Cathe series when I left them in the box and then forgot I had them so I didn't so them often, so eventually I made orange and black covers for them.

Andrea, I'm starting by following a loose rotation of

cardio
weights
cardio
weights
cardio

and trying out the Xtrain workouts.
 
I did Supercuts ~ no pushup + core 1 premix ~ 52min. sweaty fun! I subbed weights for the tubing because tubing makes me crazy.

Hubby did have to go on his trip today, his boss suggested that he pack and be ready in case they decided to send him after all. My parents took me out to lunch and I had coconut shrimp which I only get when Hubby is away becuase of his seafood allergy.
 
I had a pretty lame workout. Brisk walk on the treadmill for 2 miles, and then abs. During my walk my calves felt so swollen, likely from standing all day at work :(

Diet...definitely better today than it has been!
 
Ok, I caved!!!!! I just bought 5 of the new Xtrain workouts and Ilaria's Atletica 3! Should keep me busy!

I wanted some new strength dvds and something shorter than STS. The only real split workouts I have are Pure Strength which seems a bit dated and Gym Styles. I ordered the two upper body workouts, the two leg workouts and Burn Sets.
 
:( No workout today. Getting ready to go to bed, actually. It's just after 7:30 pm! But my alarm is set for 4:15 for a workout in the morning. Thinking Cardio and Weights at this point in time...or maybe LIC. I love those older workouts, I appreciate Cathe's goofy sense of humor and imperfections. I haven't done or even watched any of the newer ones, but I get a sense that some of that reality is edited out.

I'm sooooo worn out, since Christmas I have worked 7 of the last eight days! That's too many for someone who was just working two days a week, plus throw in the stress of the holidays, I'm beat. Can't hardly think straight! So hoping for a good night's sleep and then a good workout to get some oxygen to my brain, one last day of work and then my Cats play in the Fiesta Bowl tomorrow night. WOO HOO for not having to get up and trudge into work on Friday! I wouldn't be able to do it!
 
Andrea, hope you get a good night's rest, sounds like you need it!! I'll be working out tomorrow morning too, planning on STS Meso 3 Bi/Tri/Sh. Keep thinking how nice it will be after work to relax and watch football and great that you dont have to work on Friday!

Peng, how did you like Supercuts?? How much did Cathe use that tubing??
 
Andrea, I hope you get a good nights rest!

Stacy, I think tubing was used maybe 4-5 times, and during the tricep exts Cathe even said we could sub weights, which was nice since I already was, lol. We went from one exercise to another with little downtime but it didn't feel rushed. Mostly compound moves, such as a squat with an overhead press, but I got more of a cardio feeling than felt like I worked my muscles. There were a few exceptions such as deadlifts and lat raises. There were a few plank moves such as alternate knees in plank position but I stood and alternated elbow to knee. One kettlebell move stuck out, the windmill, which is one of my favorites I might add. More vocals but they weren't as loud so I could hear Cathe's direction clearly. Looking forward to hearing what you think of Xtrain. BTW, Cathe pronouces it X train not Cross train.
 
I did Mesocycle 3 Disc 27 Sh/Bi/Tri, again I didnt go that heavy, almost felt like I was wasting my time, but I felt that way with Ch/Ba and feel a twinge of muscle soreness still, so that's right where I want to be right now as I get back into lifting. I'm not sure how long I'll stick with Meso 3, I like it and I'm sure once I up my weights I'll be feeling the intensity but they're so far SO long, both about 70 minutes. Maybe with the Xtrain's I can do a quick cardio workout that day too, we'll see!

Peng, glad I didnt get Supercuts, I dont like tubing and I feel as if I already have enough compound move type of workouts with LIS, CF and TTM which I love but wanted something different. Even though LIS, CF and TTM use weights I consider them my "cardio plus" workouts or cardio with some extra light "toning" thrown in. When I first got them I was using heavier weights but then I was too sore to do weights the next day but never quite felt worked out enough to consider them weight training if that makes sense.

Andrea, how was your morning workout?? I'm going into work soon today is my long and extra busy day, not a big fan of Thursdays :(
 
Andrea....did you make it??!! I hate those kinda days, had an afternoon like that myself! Now it's time to relax and watch your Cats!!
 
i did make it, but barely! yes, time to relax and regroup :)

chiropractor helped by snapping some tension out of my neck. I'm getting a good feeling about our game tonight :)
 
TGIF! No workout today. I was up late last night couldnt sleep my legs felt really achy, probably from standing all day. I'm gonna have to get some compression hose, gee it stinks getting old!!

I made an insomniac purchase last night and bought the Xtrain User Guide. I'd like to have a list of the exercises and see the rotations. I figured I could "view" the other workouts this way and see if I really want to purchase them. Yeah, that's it, justify my purchase! ;)

I did 25min watching Tracey's Walking Strong on the dreadmill then got bored and switched to Cathe's All Out HIIT ~ TS floor premix at 22min.

Today, my parents took me out to lunch again and more shopping, since Hubby is gone. I bought some groceries and a skein of yarn that was 50% off.

I still have some chores around the house, but I can relax now, lol.

Stacy, way to justify that purchase. ;) I need to look over the rotations and see if I want to try one or just stick with what i'm doing.

Andrea, hope you and your neck are still feeling good!
 
Howdy!

Much better day today. I did Cardio and Weights and had a lot of fun doing it. Felt awesome afterwards. No headache at all. Thanks for the neck-crack, chiropractor!

Lots of errands today, took back some earrings my mom got me that I thought were not pretty, but cost a lot, and traded them for two sets of super cute and comfy warm flannel jammies! So excited to put them on :) I am ALL BOUT BEING COMFY!

Salmon and quinoa for dinner tonight with asparagus. I feel so healthy ;P

Peng your comment about the skein of yarn made me laugh...not sure why, I was like one little skein? I know you'll do something magical with it!

Andrea, glad you are feeling better!! Good job on the workout and healthy dinner, yep, pizza for me. You made me crack up with your earring jammie swap, totally sounds like me!! I love comfort!

I also cracked up when I read the word "skein", I thought it said "stein" and I was like "Peng's getting a beer stein???"....then read on and figured it out, though I still have no clue exactly what a skein is, lol!! I'm so NOT crafty AT ALL!

I'm ready for a good workout tomorrow morning, legs are feeling better today. I tried to sit down any chance I got at work, which still wasnt much!

I'm so excited to be getting new workouts, the User Guide and my awesome compression hose, hehe!
