I Just purchased the Proform treadmill model # 770 EKG at sears a closeout for $589 and had a 15%off coupon and I'd like to know if I should buy the warranty! I have 30 days to decide and I was wondering if anyone had any problems with this brand! I was reluctant to buy the warranty because the sales person kept telling me that I'd be better off with the Nordic track which was $600 more! I'm sure you get what you pay for but I didn't know to trust her or not because she makes commision! I just wanted to get home real quick and get on line and ask the "real" educated crowd that I know and love!So if you could kindly shout out some opinions--or your experiences with the proform---I'd truly appreciate it!Your friend in fitness--Francine

I got a Proform treadmill from Sears about 4 yrs. ago. I got the warranity with it & have kept up the warranity which isn't cheap but neither would be a repair bill on a treadmill.
I like the warranity, I hadn't had mine but about a year & the roller part gave out on it & they came right out & fixed it.
My treadmill wasn't real expensive - about $700 - but expensive enough! you can get them for thousands of dollars!
I have kept up the warranity, I wouldn't have a treadmill without a warranity on it otherwise you will have a "Big Elephant" in your basement not usable. I have them come out & check it over every 6 mon. even though it is working good they check everything & oil it or whatever for upkeep.
The repairman said that the Proforms aren't made sturdy enough to jog on but I just walk on mine so no problem there.
Just my opinion, but I would get the warranity, that is the only thing that I have bought a warranity on, by the way.

I would get the warranty. I bought a NordicTrack Treadmill about 3 years ago for $1500. I also purchased the warranty since I am using it with clients and I have some rather large people using it. The warranty has paid for itself a few times over already. Like the previous poster said, the cost of travel, labor and repair for a treadmill can get really expensive--it is better to maintain the warranty--you will save in the end!

Francine,
I purchased a Proform 750 treadmill 3 years ago at Sears. I purchased the 3 year warranty but have never had to use it. In my research for treadmills I read that these cheaper treadmills are considered "throw-aways", that if they break they're usually not worth getting fixed so that's why I bought the warranty since at the time of purchase it was cheap. I haven't extended it though because of the expense. This treadmill has survived 3 years of me walking & doing Treadmoves videos, my son the college runner running on it at top speed until the motor gets hot & the occassional use by my DH. I say my money ($700) was well spent.
Bottom line, get the 3 year warranty.
Enjoy!

Hi,
I have a Proform treadmill that I bought used some months ago. I love it. I can't speak to your warranty question, but I will say mine is certainly sturdy enough to run on. I do 10-15 miles a week at about a 10-minute mile pace. It could go quite a bit faster--the problem is ME.(hehe) I can't sustain a much faster pace than that for very long! I think for the money they are considered a pretty good buy in their class. The salespeople are also trying to get you to fork over more money for the most expensive models because they get a bigger commission!

Consumer Reports usually doesn't recommend buying the warranties but they make an exception in the case of treadmills. It's almost impossible for most people to transport a treadmill back for repairs, and very few people can fix problems themselves, so I think buying the warranty, even just for the maintenance, is a good idea.

Hi Francine,
I've had my Proform for about 5 years and have never had a bit of trouble with it. I often run on it, no problem.
Which doesn't help, does it? I never bought the warranty because I'm notoriously cheap when it comes to warranties, and I never buy them. But you might want to consider buying it for the first period of time just in case you brought home a lemon. You never know!

I bought a Proform 585 in 1999. I usually only use it steadily from December to March in preparation for a race. The rest of the time I use it sporadically. It was $600 and I've never had any problems with it. And I run on it. I'm also a cheapo and didn't buy the warranty.

I purchased a Proform 730CS 3 years ago. It was $599 on sale. I haven't had one bit of trouble with mine, and it is used almost every day for running.
In my opinion, those warranties are nothing more than a way to get more money out of you. I guess lots of people disagree with me about the warranty thing, but in my experience, the sales person (especially at Sears) always seems more eager to sell you the warranty than they are the product itself.
I do know that Clark Howard (Atlanta's consumer watchdog!) says that most of the time with these warranties, you end up paying more for the warranty (over time), than you would've paid to replace the equipment if it fails.
Good luck and enjoy your new treadmill!

Yikes! I didn't know I had replies to my post! I checked the box for notification but it didn't go through! Thanks for your input and I went with the 1 yr warranty! I never had a treadmill nor was I ever on one! I didn't even know you had to jump off then stop it! If I'm gonna break anything I'll make sure I make all the rookie mistakes now! I'm having a blast on this!I'm doing the CTX series and for extra cardio -I'm doing Cardio Guerilla --on the shortened workouts! If you are unfamiliar with cardio guerilla it is a 12min intense cardio burst that helps attack even more stubborn abdominal fat!I discovered this exact method from Muscle media back in Oct! Here goes the workout for on the treadmill--it can also be used for~stationary bike~swimming~sprinting~jump rope~etc~Minutes 1-4 warm up @50%of perceived maximum effort MINUTE 5 sprint for 20 secs~rest for 10 secs~sprint for 20 secs~rest for 10 secs MINUTE 6(same) sprint 20-rest 10 sprint 20 rest 10 MINUTE 7(same )MINUTE 8 (same) MINUTES 9-12 Cool down @50% of perceived maximum effort! So wrapping it up you warm up for 4 mins -sprint for 20 secs and then rest for 10 secs and repeat that for 4 mins and then cool down for 4 mins! I sweat like crazy, give it a try and let me know how you like it--we should pass this on!Your friend in fitness Francine
