Pregnancy New Year Checkin ;)

Yeah i shop for a weeks worth of food too at a time. But im trying to cut back and pick something that makes leftovers since food is sooo expensive. and on days my DH works i just have cereal or eggs for dinner. Its 10Pm and all i've had after my workout is a cookie and a small bowl of cereal. i dont really have an apetite the past few days.

i made the chicken for tomorrow tho, so i'll just have to heat up when i get home. go me! i hope you like the recipe.

about the pediatricians, i just found out some that use my insurance. then i asked around. and i picked two places that got good recommendations. I called them and you just ask for a prenatal appointment, which is free of charge (at least here in florida it is). They set up an appointment for you and you go in and see the office and talk with the doctor. You can request a certain one or just go with whoever is available. I'm not from here, and know nothing about doctors and pediatricians. So i picked two and im going to see which one i like better and just pick one of those for when my baby gets here. Then if i dont like them later i can always switch. hopefully i pick a good one the first time tho. I dont usually have much luck with doctors though!

you shoould check who your insurance will take and see what the rules are thru the military. are there other moms on base that you could ask?

Hi MDBecky! I'm Tana and I'm 30 wks pregnant today with my 2nd child. I have a son who's 4 and am expecting a girl. She's been named Emily by my son. "Emily" received Christmas gifts from my in-laws and my FIL has been telling his cronies that's the name of his soon-to-be granddaughter. LOL

I was wondering about pediatricians too. I had no idea about the prenatal appt thing. DH's company switched insurance plans at the beginnning of 2008 and it dumped both of our drs. I'm still ticked off. Luckily I'm rarely sick, but I've only seen my new dr once and that was just to get a referral for an ob/gyn since she doesn't do that. DS has been going to DH's dr, but I'm not sure I get a kid-comfortable feeling from him. I'm sure he sees plenty of kids, but he's just not like my old dr. = (

Ahh...cheap meals. Love them! We do plenty of beans, chili (eat for at least 3 days), meatloaf, mac & cheese (homemade and simple). There was a website I used to visit long ago (hillbillyhousewife.com) that had tons of cheap recipes. Maybe I was just amused by the name...not sure if I ever made anything. While looking for it I found cheapcooking.com which looks interesting.

Just venting

I am 22 weeks and went for my u/s yesterday. It was very frustrating! DH and I got there at the scheduled time. After an hour of waiting, I inquired about the status of the doctor. The tech. said that the doctor could see me in another 30-45 minutes. At 45 minutes (1.75 hours of waiting at this point) I asked the status again and the tech said that the doctor had to leave the office for another two hours. I was livid and told them how inappropriate this was--that they should have notified me ASAP after they knew that he'd have had to leave. My next appointment is on 8 January. Should I have been upset? I took the entire day off of work for this appt.

ARGH!!!

You have every right to be mad! That wait was just ridiculous! Not to mention they were not going to keep you informed. I would have been livid as well especially if i took an entire day off of work. Maybe its time to find a new doctor ?? I have never run into that problem at my place. ANd hope I dont. How awful :(

Tana that is a funny story about your baby s name :) Are you going to pick Emily after all? sounds like its been picked for you!

I did not even think about finding a pediatrician while pregnant until my friends brought it up and then my midwife asked me if i was thinking about one yet. I visited one last week and we see a second on Friday. I'm going to pick between the two of them and just hope i get someoen decent and who will take good care of my little one! (who has yet to get named!)

Welcome MDBecky!!!

Hi Jen, my other kids were 6lbs and 7 lbs. I am hoping that the dr is off a little. I had some ice cream last night with dinner and it helped me to calm down a little. I never did get my peanut butter sandwich last night.

Jess..Thanks for your post. My hubby and I did IVF so our dates are pretty exact. I was hoping to do this without drugs, but if the baby is really big, I will have to reconsider.

Tana.. I hope that you get over your cold soon. It doesn’t sound like fun.

Laura.. I would be upset too. It is irritating to have to wait when you have an appointment. The place that I go gives you 15 min to be late, then it is up to the doctor whiter or not you will be seen. I think that it should go both ways.

Has anyone come up with a post baby workout yet? It seems to be all that I am thinking about lately. I have STS coming so I am definitely going to give that a shot. I am not good at following rotations, so I will do what I can. I just can’t wait to get back into running!!! It must be getting close, because my fitness bug is coming back.

Laura -I'd be steamed!! esp if I had taken off work. I've had to wait over an hour for a couple of my appts. (I was upset too) I always expect to wait atleast 30 min past my appt time and I'm always there early. but that wait was just WRONG!! sorry.

Tana -thats funny about the name. I know a little girl named Emily. Do you have any names picked out other than the one your son picked? :)
Yeah I have a meatloaf recipe that makes like 4 meals. We eat it for 2 days and the rest is frozen for a week or two then we eat it again. lol. but the kids and DH love it.

Jen -even though I shop for a week I'm always making runs for milk or bananas or whatever. ack. the kids and DH eat like there is no tomorrow. its crazy. If dh isn't coming home some nights I also eat MUCH lighter in general. We don't eat half the food if DH isn't home and have too much leftovers for us. I'll look into the pediatrician thing. I was meaning to do that already but I'm a big procrastinator! lol. I didn't know about making a prenatal appt though. I'd better check my insurance will cover it though cause maybe mine doesn't work that way? I don't know anyone to ask about recommendations. I've asked the few I do know and didn't get much helpful feedback.

Skyy- looks like we were posting at the same time. I think I'm going to get Chalene extreme and save it for after baby since her workouts are shorter. I also have STS coming. I preordered back in like Feb before I knew I'd be preggo lol. I'm wondering if I should save it for way later or try to while preggo? thinking it may be way too much modification for me?

i never follow rotations, i just do what i feel like doing and make sure i get in enough cardio and weights. I too have STS coming to me, and thought it'd be a good post baby workout, if time allows. I think im being optimistic becuase im pretty sure i wont get 60-90mins almost daily to exercise like i do now if i so choose to do that. Unless my doll of a hubby agrees to let me have mommy time. But i might be sore or not ready to jump back into working out after giving birth. This whole new mom thing is totally new to me!

Jess usually when you call the doctor they will ask what insurance you have. Then if they dont take yours you know you can move on. Or you can contact your HR people and get alist of doctors in the area. My job has a website that will give you the directory of specialists and doctors that take our insurance.

Also, i asked some new moms at my job but also i posted in the BABY and KIDS section at www.craigslist.org. IF you arent familiar with that site, just go to the link i wrote and click on your state and closest city, and find your area. go to baby and kids under for sale and write a post asking for recommendations that are near you. YOu can see what other moms in the area think if you dont have anyone to ask in person. It worked for me. People at the job raved about dr's but they were not close to me, so that was not convenient. So i relied on craigslist haha. Hope this helps a little. Or maybe you can ask other military moms?

Jen - yeah I already asked the military moms I know. I'll ask if I meet anyone else. Never thought of craigslist for that. may do that ;). I was wondering that even if they take tricare if they'd pay for a prenatal appt off post when I'm being seen on post. kwim? seems with military insurance you are either HERE or THERE. I'm "assigned" to the place I'm at for prenatal appts. I am not a whiz with insurance though so maybe I misunderstand it but I'll look into it.

Oh and I'd love to try STS after baby but being realisitic I don't know if I could jump back into something that long/hard of w/os after a baby. (time and energy wise) I'm more optomistic I'll do CLX. I think for the first few weeks your supposed to not workout at all, then I could try out that.

you could always ask whoever is in charge of your insruance. im sure there is some sort of hr dept/insruance head to ask. good luck with it, i hope you find out soon and are able to pick a good doctor. i hope i make the right choice too!

let me know how u like Chalene Extreme. Its on my wishlist at vf exchange but thats all it is - a wish! I cannot afford to buy anything. Im glad i preordered STS back in Jan when i had the money. No way could i justify getting it now..

Jen - do you have any workouts that are a little less intense? or shorter a bit? those could be your getting back into it w/o videos. Or just do premixes instead of the whole w/o. I could do that too. Yeah there is a place I was going to ask at the hospital that tricare has a desk at but I forgot last time. I may just call cause its another month till my next appt.

Laura, I agree with everyone else. I'd be mad too. At my ob/gyn office, when my dr gets called out on a delivery/surgery they call each of us up there to reschedule so they're not wasting our time.

Skyy, I've been thinking about how I'm going to approach working out after the baby is born too. I'm one of the few who didn't preorder STS (couldn't justify the funds), and I'm totally at a loss for how I'm going to get back into shape. DS is at an age now where he can workout with/around me or get on the computer (and I rarely workout more than 45 minutes...not really willing to test his patience..LOL). I'd love to be one of those morning exercisers and have it done before anyone wakes up. It seems like the mornings I do wake up extra-early, DS is up within 30 minutes. I think we're on the same wavelength or something...or I'm not as quiet as I think I am. = )

DS picking the name Emily actually helped us. Like Jen, pretty much every name I picked out was "not a favorite" of DH. I liked Brynn, Evan, Sophia, Casey, Cara. He was set on Audrey.

Hi ladies. Had my first trip to L&D today. My blood pressure was sky high (highest was 160/96). Had labs drawn...everything was fine except the BP. It went down too after lying down for a bit, so they sent me home. I was contracting (mildly) quite a bit and still am, but they don't hurt so I am assuming they don't mean anything and could just be because of my internal exam today.

Anyway, I am supposed to take it easy until Friday when I can have another ultrasound and biophysical profile, so no working out until then. I think they're just trying to hold things off until I am 37 weeks, which would be Saturday (according to my dates) or Tuesday (according to early ultrasounds). I just hope they don't end up doing a c-section. I don't want the longer recovery time, but I am just not certain an induction would even work. Ugh!

I did pre-order STS, and am excited about getting it. I do think I'll do something easier at first though, like maybe the Hardcore series rotation (the first month of the 3 month rotation) and then move on to STS. I haven't lifted since I found out I was pregnant (I had a small subchorionic hematoma and was afraid I would miscarry if I worked out too hard back then) and I know my 1 rep maxes will be pitiful!

Happy New Years everyone.

Happy New Years everyone! I am sure noone else is working except me. I"m here until 5 as usual. But that is ok - its just another day :)
Down here in florida, people apparently celebrate with fireworks. yup. very strange to me. i'm from up north and we do not celebrate with fireworks lol.

all this week i wake up feeling icky. my stomach is bothering me. i can eat, i dont get sick but i just have a "blech" feeling. I dont know if its baby or if im coming down with something or if its just the stress of life right now. Anyone ever get sick toward the end of their other pregnancies? MY DH mentioned it might be third trimester sickness becuase im getting ready to have the baby but i dont know how accurate that is!

We tried to think of more names last nite. DH Was good about looking some up but then it was dinner time and he stopped. I cant even remember what he came up with. Tana, AUdrey was one. ACtually it was the celtic version, Ardra. But i think I like AUdrey better. I thought of Teagan, which is cute to me but i dont think it would grow with the baby as nicely as some other names. He refuses to use the name Ilaria. He thinks its sounds like a sickness. Haha. I cant win. Im just frustrated i dont have a name yet. He said lets just pick Marlo, but i know he goes back and forth on it so its not THE name. Trouble is, i dont think anything will ever have that IT factor for us! Sigh. He said it was not hard to name his other children from his first marriage. So maybe its me?

Anyhoo..dont know how many of you will be online today to check in, but i hope you all have a great holiday, and hopefully noone else is at work today!

I am hoping that I did this correctly. I just finished a Cathe workout and wanted some feedback. I'm 22+ weeks (23 weeks on Tuesday). What do you all think? The baby is definitely kicking, but I'm not sticking out yet. This is my first. Normal???

22 weeks 2009 001.jpg

22 weeks 2009 002.jpg

Laura, it is prefectly normal, do not worry :)
If anything were NOT normal your doctor would let you know ASAP. Since this is your first, it will take a while for you to show. Plus the fitter we are, the longer it takes. I did not show for 5 onths! then i could make out a little bump. Then a little while later it grew over nite. And now i keep popping out.
Dont worry, in time you will have a belly and look pregnant. For now, just enjoy feeling your baby move and knowing the baby is healthy and mama too! And, be thankful you can bend over and put socks on comfortably! haha. i sort of miss that as the belly gets in the way.

Every woman and every pregnancy is different. This is my first too and for the longest time people kept asking are you SURE you are pregnant. Um yes! Now its obvious but im 33 weeks. My friend told me yesterday i look like a toothpick with a basket ball on my stomach and i dont look pregnant at all from behind. That made me feel good becuase i have gained sooooooo much weight. But people tell me its all belly. Which i hope is true. Im sure some of it is fat elsewhere dueto the holidays etc and working out less.

Anyway, you look great! Do not worry! I know its hard. If anything were wrong though, the doctor would let you know.

ps Laura did you just finish a cathe CARDIO workout?
if i took a pic after a cardio workout i would look gross! all red in my face and very very sweaty. I sweat a lot when i workout. and my hair is a complete mess. I laways wondered how people in videos stay so pretty with a hair not out of place and hardly a drop of sweat anywhere. Even when Cathe says she feels the sweat dripping down i'm like ummm...where? haha :) I could never star in a video!

Happy New Year!!! Hope everyone had a wonderful, safe New Year's Eve. We stayed home and ate fat food. = ) DS (age 4) wanted to stay up until midnight and made it until about 9:30 when he passed out snuggled up against my shoulder. DH & I were up until probably 12:05. I'm very proud of DH, he's usually in bed by 10 on New Year's Eve. Such a party pooper. Luckily, VH1 had a best hard rock songs countdown and he was reminiscing about his youth in the 80s. LOL

Laura, I agree with Jen about not showing this early. I didn't break out the maternity clothes with my first until 5 1/2 months and they were probably way too big then.

Jen, you're working today? = ( Hopefully it'll be a quiet day there, yet still go by fast.

We're not doing much here today except taking down Christmas decorations. Hopefully I can get a workout in. My cold is doing much better. I don't have that congested feeling right above my chest so I think I'll be okay with cardio.

You all are so great! I REALLY needed that. And yes, when I took the pics I just finished S&H Chest (extra sets) and then IMAX (the first one). I don't sweat very much because of the shape I'm in. I'm not saying that to be arrogant at all. I've just been into fitness for 20 years.

I would love to look like a toothpick with a basketball! I hope that will be the case. :) I'm still working out the same, but with a little less intensity. I know I've gained a little fat, but my husband says that it's barely anything at all. Someone else on the forum said she didn't show until 24 weeks and that people didn't even notice until seven months. I'm "out" to my family and friends, but not my co-workers. No one at work has noticed yet.

What I really love is how the baby is getting bigger. At some point during the day/night I now feel the arms and legs kicking because sometimes it's near my navel and then right behind my pubic bone. I don't think it's possible to have the baby do a 180 turn in a matter of seconds (LOL)! I'm not waking up at night because of the kicking, but it's getting more regular and I feel it when I'm awake (more so when I'm not moving around) either lying in bed or typing on the Cathe forums.

On another note, my sister saved all of her maternity/baby stuff for me!!! She has two kids already (six and two) and my Target registry has barely anything on it since she's giving me so much! I went back to the States for Christmas and she showed me everything she has. The baby is due in May and I won't return to the States until July when my husband retires from the military and we move from Germany. She's going to mail me everything that the baby needs for the first three months of her/his life and send the rest to Chicago which is where we'll move. I'm so happy as retirement AND moving into a new house, buying new cars/furniture, etc. will be a tremendous cost. Thanks so much to her for saving us at least a few thousands of dollars.

Related to that, what do you all think of disposable versus cloth diapers? I'm trying to "go green" but also want to consider convenience. I know that disposable diapers will be the way to go for the first few months that the baby is here as it's not possible to have cloth diapers in temporary lodging (when the military moves us). However, I'm considering getting a diaper delivery service in Chicago as it seems like a toss up with the cost. I don't think it's wise to clean dirty diapers in my mother's washing machine (which is where we'll live for a few months -- a year???-- after the baby is born.

Thanks for "listening". :D

Laura - well you must be in super shape! :) Your abs look like they are holding the baby bump in. But I'm sure you'll start to pop sometime.
Thats great your getting so much from your sister. Baby gear does add up FAST.
About diapers. I'm going to use 7th generation disposables. They atleast have less plastic and have no chlorine. I used them for a long time with my second son. I also tried cloth for several months and it was honestly awful. I really wanted to like it. I'm very green in other ways... but they were always soaked, stunk and were grose to clean.. but if you can deal with it then go for it!! I only tried one brand and I know there are lots of really cool new cloth diapers on the market that make it easier. I even had a sprayer attached to my toilet to wash off the poo before adding them to the dirty diaper bin. They also fit huge and I could rarely get his pants on over them and when wet they'd be even huger.
If you have the ability to compost when you move there is something fairly new called g diapers. They have a cloth outter but a disposable insert and you can either break and flush it or compost the pee ones or of course toss them. The problem is no matter how biodegradable something is it gets burried in the dumps and the lack of oxygen will keep our trash there for ages to come. I was reading a ton of reviews also on them and some said that the super absorbers in them wouldn't be good for the water supply. But it may be something you could look into. http://www.gdiapers.com/
