Pregnancy Check-in Week of May 31st

One more thing:
If you register at Target adn Babies R Us, they do sell your name to lists and you get great free stuff and coupons.
I tried to breastfeed and was unable to due to my (as previously mentioned) incredibly bad nipples and HUGe boobs. So I pumped till I got drug resistant mastitis and happily went to formula. If anyone has questions, I am here. I was criticised a lot by the moms in my area for giving up, but it worked better for me. My son was really colicky adn it was nice to jut shake and go and let my hubby help at night. Also, I suffered from some pretty severe post partum depression. Once my hormones regulated after my milk dried up, I was able to get back on track. I am very envious for people who find breast feeding easy! These cute moms at play groups would just whip them out and the baby would latch! I spent hundreds of dollars with lactation consultants, everything. Anyhow, just want to let anyone out there who needs the resource, I am here if you want to chat. I am skipping pumping this time, and am okay with it. I am glad I tried first time around!

Thanks everyone for sharing so much information. I started jotting down notes as I read your posts so when I got to the end of the e-mail chain, I could thank everyone properly--but I'll probably forget something! (BTW, I'm more forgetful than ever. Can I blame that on the pregnancy? ;-) )

Regarding workouts, I'm only back to trying to keep fit in my second trimester (I really struggled with exercise in the first trimester). For step workouts, I use only the platform. At first, I thought this would be so easy, but with a growing belly, just the platform is plenty of exercise. I also modify like crazy. For example, I did Step Blast recently, but just the premix add-on of the three step combos (31 minutes). I didn't do any across the step jumps and ricochets, I just kept with the knee repeaters Cathe teaches at the beginning of the combo. And I don't jump--I think there's a move called playtime where she jumps on the step then down and says "run, run, run." I'm more like "step, step, step." Sounds lame, but after 31 minutes my heart rate was up and I was done. I did not do the challenge portion at the end of Step Blast.

If you can stand it, I still love orange-flavored metamucil. I almost never drink water without it now! (Perhaps gross but if you're pregnant you'll understand.)

And I've had my share of feminine issues, too, and haven't even worked as a whore (that darn Internet). ;-) Anyway, that's just to say, don't feel bad about these things. Sometimes they just happen.

Oh, and thanks for the tip on Blue Cross, Blue Shield perhaps covering the Medela breast pump. I hope to pump but will have to see how it goes. At Babies R Us, the Medela breast pump is something like $379! If my insurance will cover it, yippee!

Oh, finally, one vent if you'll indulge me . . . I've always been a stomache sleeper. Up to now, I could sleep on my stomache with a knee propped up so I wasn't squishing the baby. That won't work now, and I read it's not good to sleep on your back. I've tried sleeping on my side with a pillow under my knee, but I've been tossing and turning. I think I got about 4 hours of sleep last night. Is this how I'm to get ready for sleepless nights with a new baby??? ;-)

Have a great day,
Dawn

Howdy everyone and welcome Kristine!
I stayed really busy this weekend. I went to a youth lock-in on Friday night and was the first to sleep at 2:00 am. I just can't keep up! Sunday I felt my baby move for the first time. I only felt it when I was laying down though.

I started Cathe's lower body solution rotation yesterday with Body Max 2. I could not keep up at all. I used just the platform for the step portion, skipped the power circuits, dropped my weights for the upper body work and still barely finished. I slept much better last night.

Christine - thanks for your notes about what was helpful. And I am glad that you found what worked for you rather than feeling guilty about having to stop breast feeding. I know many people like you who worked really hard and were forced to quit for one reason or another which is why I keep saying that I would "prefer" to breastfeed.

Wow Christine! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was taking notes the whole time! I am just about finished registering except for some of the stuff like clothing that I want to wait to know the gender. It was so helpful to read all of that info and see that I am actually on the right track with my products! I have a great friend who has been guiding me and will be lending lots of things like an exersaucer and swing so I don't have to buy it. I will also definitely check into the insurance covering the pump, that would be great!

Melanie- If he does happen to bring clothes would you like me to send them to you? I don't remember what the babies genders are but I will look at the stuff and let you know. I will probably take what we can use (once we know gender) and then I would be more than happy to send the rest on to you. We don't need baby clothes for families at my job, just things like strollers or car seats to donate to families.

Dawn- At least you are getting some good cardio in. I am doing CC on the TM but only do 3.5 for most of my level 2 and my sprints are only at 4. My incline has started to go up higher but I get winded so easy and I just lower the incline. I am just happy to be moving and just hope that every little bit helps. Also- I used to sleep on my back the majority of the time and just started sleeping on my side last week. Well, if you read any of my complaints last week it took my body about 7 days to adjust with the soreness and achiness of changing positions but now I feel like I am sleeping through the night. I hope it gets better for you!

Hello to everyone else! I will be back later to do more personals!

Regarding sleeping through the night, a friend of mine said something funny to me. She said that she believes pregnant ladies having difficulty sleeping--and needing frequent restroom trips--is evolution's way of preparing us for having little ones. She said at least it gets better--once the baby is born, you won't get a lot of sleep but at least you have a cute baby who makes you smile.

My mom also told me something funny. When I told her I'm used to sleeping on my stomache and am having difficulty now that my stomache is too big, she said she was the same way. She and my father lived near the beach so he would dig her a hole in the sand for her belly so she could sleep on her stomache with her belly in the hole!

Have a great day,
Dawn

Hello everyone,

Is it just me or what, I've been craving what I see other people eat. This morning one of my assistance was eating a croissant with sausage, egg and cheese and of course I had to get one and my excuse was that since I was able to keep down just half of the oatmeal I ate this morning, it was fair to eat the croissant just an hour later.
Oh Well...

Christine, thanks so much for the list, it's really helpful

Dawn, what a funny story about your parents! Ah, I never realized that breast pumps would be that expensive but my coworkers told me to get one over $300 to make sure is a good one. I have yet to find out if is gonna be covered by my insurance too.

Hi to all the fabulous pregnant ladies
Be back later!

Great list of things! Can I add a couple?

- 2 or 3 crib mattress covers, so when the baby wets through you don't *have* to do laundry right away

- for Mom (!): Preparation H pads (for hemmeroids), Cottonelle or Charmin wet wipes (dry toilet paper can feel really painful for a few weeks after birth!), stool softener (esp. if you have a delivery-induced hemmeroid and/or an episiotomy (sp?) ) (Ah, there is no modesty when it comes to child birth!)

- for bottles, we tried a few different kinds before we found the right one for DD. Unfortunately, I had a lot of Avent ones, and she didn't like them. So you might want to get a couple of different kinds to try, or at least just buy a couple of the brand you think you want, until you know it will work with your little one.

----------------
Christine, kudos to you for knowing when to say when. I tried breastfeeding for 6 weeks. It was torture. I was miserable. My milk didn't come in until 8 days after birth, so we had to supplement with formula. Even with the hospital pump I rented, I never got more than 2 oz TOTAL when I pumped, so I always had to supplement. I was so relieved to stop! When people commented that I didn't try long enough, or that I was robbing DD of her future health, or whatever unsolicited opinion they were sharing, I would just smile sweetly and say that it's wonderful to be able to choose what works best for each family. ;)

Melanie, my girlfriend has twins. In our area there are lots of moms of multiples groups. She says it's a lifesaver -- people swap clothes and shoes and toys. Her group actually hosts a sale in the spring and fall as well, for gently used clothing, gear, toys, and shoes. Maybe your OB or pediatrician would know if one exists in your area.

Dawn, I'm sorry you're getting subpar sleep. Yes, it is good practice for what is to come. But, it seems like we should be able to build up our sleep stores, doesn't it?! I know some folks who said they had to sleep in recliners. I've actually been waking up in the morning on my stomach -- not sure how I'm swinging that! Hope I'm not crushing the little guy!

That is so funny cause we were at the lake this weekend and I wanted to lay on my belly so DH dug a hole in the sand for my belly and then we just put the beach blanket back over it. It worked!

Good morning ladies! Ya'll were talkative yesterday!

Nursing isn't for everyone. One thing that I have learned is to to be sensitive to the fact that not everyone CAN nurse (or wants to). I nursed baby 1 for just 6 weeks, baby 2 for 18 months, baby 3 for 2 years (gulp, after 18 months or so it was just at bedtime). I absolutely LOVED nursing. But that's me, and my body.

As a pharmacist I strongly urge patients to try to nurse, and as a previous Medela breast pump consultant I tried to offer innovative and practical advice to promote an ENJOYABLE nursing experience. I found there were many moms that were ready to give up b/c of hurdles that occured,...but with a little education they could learn to jump that hurdle and go onto to nurse their babies longer. Lactation consultants are wonderful tool, but even with help some moms are physcially unable to.

Christine, you're so sweet to offer to mail me twin clothes. I might take you up on it,...we'll wait to see what their sex is. ;) I have lots of boy clothes,...but nothing matching for twins....

Dawn~ I think you suggested twins group? We literally live in RURAL USA. LOL I live 5 minutes from Canada in the middle of NOWHERE. We're 2 hours from my ob/gyn which is a Native American type town (not a typical big city) and 5 hours from a "big city" (Fargo). Fargo may have a twins type group,...but not sure that I would drive 5 hours away for a garage sale? hee hee. I'm thinking Minneapolis would for sure have these types of groups,...Mpls is about 9 hours away. *gulp* But you got me to thinking, that I could have my mom maybe shop those "twins" sales & mail me clothes and such! She'd have lots of fun.

Okay ladies, my constipation has gotten super bad again. Now I have numerous grape-sized hemmrhoids and had some rectal bleeding. :( I"m thinking I'm going to have to start daily Miralax to keep things flowing that way. It's common for me to have this,...normally it starts around 6 months for me,...it freaks me out that it's happening so early b/c it's always stuck around until delivery in the past for me. My tush is sore!!!!!!!!:eek:

Well, I"m off to make steel oats for breakfast. Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Hey ladies! Sorry it feels like it has taken me forever to post. Our friend dropped off the baby stuff for us. All he brought was two purple bouncy seats that vibrate and a jungle themed swing that rocks and I think plays music. They are in excellent condition. I am really excited that I don't have to buy those things. Not a whole lot going on here. My back is really sore today so I wonder if I am growing/stretching again. I sat forward for a few minutes at my desk to relieve my back and the baby was moving and kicking all around on the left side, it was so fun!

Melanie- Sorry he didn't bring us any baby clothes. I'm not sure if he plans on giving us more stuff or not?? But I will definitely keep you in mind if he does. Sorry to hear about the hemmroids. If its not one thing with you its another. But you get TWO beautiful babies at the end so hopefully it will be all worth it!

Anyone heard from Susan since she came to FL? I was just wondering and hoping she is having a good time. Maybe she doesn't get internet access???

Priscilla- I wasn't really craving what other people eat until you posted the breakfast sandwich! ;) Now that sounds good!

Oops. My pg brain trying to keep everything straight. LOL Jen,....were you getting twins stuff? hee hee. No big deal that there weren't any clothes. You're so sweet too, thinking of me. :D ....and here I"m giving Christine the credit for your sweetness.:confused:

Christine, have u started your antibiotics yet?

Where IS our Susan? It has been a while!!!!

Hi everyone!

My goodness you ladies are a bunch of chatterboxes!:)

Today we met w/ the perinatologist and everything is going well. HR was 155. We didn't find out what we're having- she had us look away when she started looking "down there". Baby was very active and is measuring right were he/she should be. I go back July 1.

Dawn - I totally agree about the metamucil. I tried it last week in desperation and was pleasantly surprised -it tasted like Tang! I used to love that stuff.

Melanie - kudos to you for nursing that long. I had the best intentions w/ my DD but I was miserable the whole time. We had difficulty latching on, sorenesss, I didn't make enough milk and was supplementing by week 2, etc. I dealt w/ horrible guilt until she was 11 weeks then I finally just decided I'd be much happier to accept that it wasn't for me at that time. I'll try it again w/ this one and we'll see. I did have a medela double pump and it was a lifesaver.

Hi to everyone else!

Melanie- It's quite alright! ;) That was why I didn't even mention it. I too have the pregnant brain but you have TWO in there sucking away at yours!

I have my second prenatal appointment today. I hope the dr will let us have sneak peek at the gender but I won't be upset if he won't let us know til the BIG REVEAL!

I will be busy at work today so I won't post as much. My wonderful smart boss decided to send one girl to training, give one girl the day off, and she leaves at lunchtime so that leaves me and my other co worker plus I already have two cases scheduled today AND I leave early for dr. But it is what it is right? I'm not stressing it today because its my bosses screw up and not mine. :)

Have a great day!

Hi ladies

I'm feeling good today. Yesterday was a bad day though, I woke up throwing up and was sick all day, I was not able to keep anything down. I took a Zofran, threw it up then a Phenergan and the same thing so I ended up using a Phenergan suppository EWWW.. but at least I was able to eat aftet that and sleep soundly

Melanie, sorry about the hemmrhoids, I haven't been that constipated b/c I'm not taking my vitamins the way I should. I hope you get better soon and of course I hope it goes away for good

Jen, Oh my God, today may be the day. Let us know how it goes...

Wendy, so glad to hear from you and to know everything is going well. All the shots and everything you have been thru has been worthy

Susan, you must be having tons of fun. Good for you!

Allison, Cee, Dawn, Christine and Kristine How are you all doing? Any news?

Check back later

Hi ladies!

Melanie- They gave me about 10 ultrasound pictures but I don't have a clue how to put them on the computer. Most of them are of the baby's feet-baby was moving around the whole time and made it difficult for the poor tech to get all the measurements she needed. Uncooperative already....oh great- I'm sure that's a sign of things to come.

Priscilla - I know what you're going through w/ the nausea - I was lucky in that the Zofran really helped to take the edge off the nausea.

Jen -Did you find out?

Whew! Busy day but I got a break. My appointment isn't until 3:20pm eastern time so I will post around dinner time my update. I'm trying not to get my hopes up that my dr will do a sneak peek for me. I don't think I am "allowed" (by insurance) for my next u/s for another 2-3 weeks.

Priscilla- I'm sorry you are feeling so yucky! I hope it backs off for you soon! I want you to enjoy this pregnancy!

Wendy- Hopefully baby was just being shy and is not going to be uncooperative for you! ;)

Where is everyone? Hopefully when I come back to update everyone will have checked in!

Ok so I am back from dr. Everything looks perfect just slightly anemic so I need to start iron supplements, which he said is normal. I asked him to take a peek which we did.

We still really don't know. He used the portable u/s machine and showed us the brain, the stomach, the liver, the heart (which I couldn't really see cause its not that clear) but he said all of it looks perfect. Then the baby wasn't cooperating so he said if he had to guess he would say a girl because he didn't see anything. Then.....baby started moving and then dr said No wait, I change my mind. And he and DH both say they saw a penis. I'm still not sure cause I didn't see it. But we will definitely know two weeks from today, if baby cooperates!

I am finding out tomorrow. Last appt I SWEAR I saw a penis. So who knows! I will let you know and post a picture if I can and you can compare it to what you saw. Who knows! Glad everything is healthy. That iron can be really constipating. Are you anywhere near Trader Joe's? They have these Fiber Fruit Leathers that are 6 grams in each one and they are terrific. There are also these Fiber and Flavor bars in Brownie flavor that have 12 grams a piece! Yummo!
