Pregnancy check in week of August 1st

Last week was a tough week for me. I'm having a hard time again. I am so tired. I've been going to bed pretty early. My husband and I have just been on such different wave lengths that there has been a lot of tension between us. Never fun.

It hurts so much to sit here and type this because the height of my uterus is definitely pushing into my lungs. I can't wait to be comfortable again. It sounds like it's going to be hot here all week. I hope that I am able to stay consistent with my workouts. What I would not give for it to be September and for baby to be here.

My workout week was good:

Sunday: Off
Monday: All Step & Shoulders
Tuesday: 10 10 10 Triceps
Wednesday: Step & Intervals
Thursday: Kickbox & Biceps
Friday: Off
Saturday: Leaner Legs

I hope everyone is doing well. I've especially been thinking about you, Diana. :)

Take care, everyone.

Stacey,

I'm impressed that you are able to do an entire CTX rotation so far into your pregnancy. When you do Step & Intervals, do you actually jump and all that, or have you modified the intervals?

All the best,
Sandra

Last week seemed to go pretty fast. Yippee!! It was really busy, and now I think it's caught up with me. I'm feeling like a slug.

Stacey, Wow! You had a really good workout week. Impressive especially when you're running low on energy and you feel like you're fighting an uphill battle. The weather here (Kansas) is supposed to be in the 80s this week. Not real cool, but definitely beats the 90s. Did I read some time earlier that you're from Washington state? My husband has relatives up there. From the pictures that I've seen, it's very pretty there.

Okay, I'm done rambling. Here's how my week went:

Sun Off
Mon KPC (-abs)
Tues Treadmill 40 min
Wed All Step
Thu Power Circuit
Fri off
Sat Step & Intervals

Hope everyone is doing well.

It was good to read your posts.

Sandra, are you pregnant, or a new mommy, or hoping to be pregnant soon? The CTX series is actually one of the easier series for me to do because I used it after having my daughter (almost 4 years ago) and we had so much going on in our lives at that time, that I got really used to the shorter workouts and kept doing the tapes. I took some time off from working out (going down to 3 days instead of 5 or 6) and finally had gotten my groove back this fall when my son started Kindergarten and vowed that I would have at least 2 workouts a week be 1 hour in length. I received Cathe's newest series and was using that exclusively and loving it, with great results, when I found out I was pregnant. I tried to keep up with that series for awhile, but thru feeling sick and being depressed and everything (this pregnancy was not planned) I did have some poor weeks of only getting in 3 workouts, etc. I just found it easier to go back to the shorter workouts, plus what my body was used to. I am only using a 6" board, and I am not doing pliae (sp?) squats in Leaner Legs as I noticed that my left quad was really bothering me (for a few days) whenever I did them. I do modify a bit on some of the intervals - for instance, on Kickbox Express, I do not do power scissors, and instead alternate high jogs and butt kicks (as Cathe calls it in her newest kickbox tape) instead. I can't do plyo jacks right now either as my knees really bother me - they feel like lactic acid build up - when I climb stairs or do something plyometric, but again, would incorporate something like power lunges, run plunge lunge, power circles, or whatever instead. This past week, I have modified the arm movements to not exceed shoulder-height which really made a difference in today's workout. Somedays, my workouts feel easy and other days, very difficult, but I know it will all be worth it when I'm able to fit into my prepregnancy clothes soon after delivery (I hope!!! I have with my other 2 pregnancies, so I feel pretty good this time around). Thanks for asking. Hope this helped. Sorry I'm so thorough! (Oh, and my shoulder workout REALLY killed me last week!)

Tana: You had a great week! You're getting really close, too. I can't remember - is this your first? And do you know what you're having? Sorry if I asked previously, but I have been so busy and at this point in my pregnancy, I don't remember much anymore! :) I do live in Washington state (northwest) and it is absolutely beautiful. The summers keep getting better and better here. My husband hates the heat and would be happy if it was 60 or 65 all summer. He's crazy. But I do not really like it when it gets to be much hotter than 80. We've had a lot of mid 80's to 90's this year. I'm ready for the cooler fall weather. I definitely love the fact that we have 4 seasons in WA. Where do your husband's relatives live? You will have to be sure to visit them after you have the baby so you can see how pretty it is for yourself. I live in the City of Gig Harbor (45 min south of Seattle). It's a quaint community with a 4 mile boardwalk along the water. There is almost water everywhere you turn here. The community is growing, but has really strived to stay small or to have a small close-knit feeling. It's a great place to raise a family. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Take care, hope more people check in. Can't wait to hear from Diana! She must have had baby by now! :)

Guess who?!! Baby still has not arrived. Today is my due date. There's still time but...who knows. I've been feeling achey the past few days but I feel pretty good today. Yesterday I did my "upper body sitting on the ball" workout and feel like doing it again today so my energy is definitely up. A muscle in my neck has been sore and caused a small thud-like headache the past two days but dh massaged it real well last night and it feels much better today. My next dr's appt is tomorrow so I'll see if there has been any progression. I want to hold out as long as I can because I really don't want to have to get induced. I'll keep you posted.

It's so nice to read how active everyone is. Everyone is doing a great job. Have a great week!

Diana:

I'm sending positive "labor" thoughts your way. Thanks for checking in. It's so hard to see your due date arrive and yet baby just keeps waiting. When is the next full moon? I went into labor with my first on the full moon.

Have you dilated at all? If so, you should see if your dr would strip your membranes. That sent me into labor on my due date with my daughter. Best of luck to you and you'll be in my thoughts and prayers. It won't be long now. It sounds as if you're in much better spirits than I would be if I were in your shoes.

Take care,
Stacey

Hi Stacey,

Yep, this is our first child. We didn't find out the gender during our first sonogram. Hubby wants it to be a surprise. He's thinking of it as the Ultimate Present. Totally surprised me since he's a total peeker/shaker/open-one-early person at Christmas. We get another sonogram next week (didn't think we'd get one, but our dr is concerned about the baby's size since I've developed gestational diabetes). I might try to peak and see if I can see anything. :)

My hubby has an uncle with a house on the coast in Washington. He has a cousin that lives in Northport (?) now, but used to live in Moses Lake (?). There is also a cousin that lives in Ellenburg (?). I think I have those cities correct.

Hope you're having a good week.

Stacey,

Thank you for the thorough reply; I shall reply in kind :) Yes, I'm currently in the 7th week of my second pregnancy, and trying to take the appropriate steps to ensure that I can continue to workout throughout the whole thing. I've been exercising, using all of Cathe's workouts in very varied rotations, for the past two years. During my first pregnancy, almost 5 years ago, I was in a mode of "All or nothing" when it came to exercise, so during the first trimester when I became too tired to continue my current regime, I simply quit altogether, rather than modified. This was a big mistake, and I gained a fair bit of excess weight. This time around I really want to avoid that. So far I've done quite well. I think my continued exercise, modified some days, has helped keep the morning sickness at bay, and I've had a much more comfortable and energetic first trimester so far, compared to my first pregnancy. So, I'm very curious as to how women have managed to workout throughout their pregnancies, and what modifications they need to make at the various stages. Most of the literature (99%!) on pregnancy and exercise is extremely conservative, and presumes the woman is either just beginning to exercise, or is as delicate as a piece of china. I find talking to other advanced, active pregnant women much more informative for my own situation.

I am impressed and heartened to hear that while you have made some modifications, you are still able to undertake advanced moves. These days my own battle is with the shortness of breath that creeps up on me more quickly than usual. I understand this is a typical first-trimester change, and probably will remain throughout the pregnancy. IMAX on an 8" step is probably out of the question anymore, but I may do some shorter versions (intervals 1-5, for example) on a 6" step. I anticipate using the CTX series quite extensively in the second half of the pregnancy, because the cardios are short, and the weight workout is awesome.

All the best,
Sandra

Hi Everyone! I just started my 7th week of my 1st pregnancy. This past week has been challenging to say the least!!! I have not done much in the way of exercising (walking, went to the gym once) because I feel so nauseated (sp?). I can't even think of certain "favorite" foods, and I have pretty much lost my appetite. I do eat, however, but it takes a long time for it all to go down. Nothing came up yet, though, so that's a postive:) Yesterday and Monday, I had the crying jags, during which I would cry to my husband about everything from the pimples on my face to my boobs (they look and feel like two canteloupes), and I also cried for unexplained reasons (not like the other two reasons were really anything to cry about). Boy, I hope this passes, and soon!!! This part is NOT fun;( Reading everyone's exercise reports has given me motivation, and I will do a Pilates video tonight. My goal is to do Cathe workouts (maybe a little modified, though)soon! I will talk to you all soon! Take care!

Hang in there, Jen! You sound very much like me during my first pregnancy, and I remember how awful it felt. This is partially the reason why I've waited 4 years before doing it again - I didn't have the time to be so ill for 3 months. For reasons that are not clear to me, my second pregnancy is going much better. I am attributing it to the fact that I have continued to eat very clean and well balanced, despite how unappealing much of it looks, and continuing to exercise regularly. I have a food checklist attached to my fridge, and each day I strive to get the recommended amount of the various food groups. I have to say that much of it is completely unappealing to me, but persisting with it has kept me feeling better overall. In my first pregnancy I think I made the mistake of simply going with what looked appealing to me, and that imbalance just made it all worse. In that pregnancy I spent a lot of time in the bathroom! I'm almost at the end of my 8th week (I made a mistake in the post above) and already finding my waistbands getting a little tight! How are you doing? Starting to notice anything like that? I feel sorry for your boob situation - that sounds so uncomfortable!!!

Take care,
Sandra

Hi everyone! I'm checking in late again. Hang in there Stacey! It's almost over. I know I keep telling myself that and you're closer than I am. I hope the tension between you and your DH has gotten better. It's great that you're keeping up the workouts. Mine have been sporadic at best. I can't even remember what I did last week. That's pretty sad! I know it consisted of Cathe's Basic Step, High Step Circuit, SJP step section and some walking on the treadmill (or was that the week before? I don't know I can't remember) I usually have to put a day in between my workouts because of soreness in my hips. I highly recommend Cathe's new beginninr and intermediate workouts to all you pregnant women out there. They're just the right intensity for pregnancy.

Does anyone else here have kids starting school? My two boys start on Monday. It seems like the summer just flew by! I can't believe that my oldest is going to middle school and my baby's going to kindergarten! I took them school clothes shopping in Phoenix last weekend (there's no place to shop in the small town I live in so I have to drive 3 hours to Phoenix) but I think I ended up buying more for the baby. My mom and I went to the Baby Depot at Burlington Coat Factory and they have so much neat stuff there! It's so much fun shopping for a girl, the clothes for girls are so much cuter than boys.

How exciting Diana! You're so close! I know when you get to this point though you're just so tired of being pregnant!:p
It's good to see so many new posters. Hang in there! I know that first trimester can be rough. Luckily I never experienced any morning sickness during my pregnancies, the fatigue was bad enough!

Take Care,
Jacque

I'm glad to hear you say that, Jacque. I purchased them specifically for that purpose. I also purchased a few Christi Taylor workouts, because her choreography is fun, but she doesn't include explosive movements in her workouts. Her workouts seem to emphasize lo-impact more than high.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! I did PowerMax this morning, and between the summer heat and being in the first trimester, it put me through the wringer, but I really enjoyed it.

Good luck with getting those kids off to school! The school year starts awfully early in your part of the world. Around here (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) it starts in September.

Cheers,
Sandra
