Pregnancy Check-in Week of 3/21/04

Cathlete
Hi everyone. Hope you all had a good week. Mine was pretty bad again. I'm still just really fighting with the whole motivation thing. The only thing I want to do is eat or sleep.

Sunday: Off
Monday: Kick Punch & Cruch up until intervals
Tuesday: Kick Punch & Crunch interval portion
Wednesday: Off
Thursday: Off
Friday: Pure Stregth BBA
Saturday: 25 minutes of my own choreographed hi-lo combo

I wonder if I'm forgetting a workout on Wed or Thurs? I just can't think what it would be though...

This is my week to get back on track not only with workouts but with my eating! No more cookies! At least not 5 in one day.

I bought some maternity clothes yesterday online at Gap's website. I'll let you know if they're any good. (I think I got 2 pairs of pants, 2 jean jackets, and 4 shirts for $200) I just like the prices of their clothes better than any other on the web. Has anyone had good luck with non-maternity tops? I like to wear a tighter fitting tank with a jean jacket or blouse unbuttoned over the top of it. As I get bigger I'll experiment, but I definitely don't want to be showing any skin. My husband would think I was crazy!

I'm due for my 16 week appt this week and I haven't even made my appt! The computers were down and I was supposed to call to schedule and I never did! Hope they can squeeze me in!

Hi All,
I had a horrible week. It was so bad that I should not even be responding to this post...

Here is my week:
Wednesday - Circuit Max

That's it! :(

I'm still fighting a cold - runny/stuffy nose and a horrible cough. I've had this stupid thing for 16 days now...and counting...

Stacey - I totally understand what you are saying about the motivation and eating habits. I'm so disgusted with myself right now for not taking better care of my body. It's not like me to go days without workouts. Also, my eating habits are nothing to brag about - lately I have been craving baked goods ... cookies, cakes, ding-dongs...(can we say carb and sugar high?!).
I am with you on making a change this week - - this week will be better!
side note: I have had really good luck with Old Navy's maternity clothes. The tops are not huge "tent shirts" and many of them are form fitting...plus, you can't beat their prices.

Hi! Stacey, you are doing great! Don't be so hard on yourself. I wasn't doing anything remotely consistent at 16 weeks... the nausea was just too much. I am really impressed with how you and every one else is doing!

I really need to go shoppping, but I haven't found the time. Maybe this week I can get a little done. Let me know how you like your clothes from the Gap.

Thankfully, I am feeling much better. I am paying for the poor eating and lack of exercise earlier... as my doctor put it Firday... I am a little ahead of schedule with my weight. He is one of my collaborating physicians so he can get away with picking on me about my weight. :) Of course, I opened up that can of worms by complaining about my weight gain.

If the weight gain isn't enough, I was reminded that I am no longer "too young" to be the parent of a teen. My hubby and I went to Sonic the other night and the waitress asked our name... she thought we may be the parents of one of her friends because he drives his parents' car that is like ours. I laughed and said do we look old enough to be the parents of a teenager. She left to get something, and I realized that WE ARE!!! Yikes!

Well, here are my efforts to keep myself as young as possible:
Sunday: Off
Monday: Step Max + PUB Back + Ab Hits
Tuesday: CK + PUB Chest & Tri
Wednesday: Kathy Smith Timesaver Cardio Fat Burner Workout 1 + Leaner Legs (feelin' a bit frisky)
Thursday: Off
Friday: Step Heat + PUB Shoulders
Saturday: CK + PUB Biceps

I hope you ladies have a great week!

Oh Christy! Just get better soon. I think Circuit Max one day is pretty awesome while fighting a cold and being pregnant!! Let yourself recover... listen to your body... you'll get back to where you expect to be with your eating and workouts.

I feel disgusted with myself too! My weight gain has me really bummed... it makes ignoring my poor eating impossible. I picked up a Fit Pregnancy last week and found an eating guide. It has helped me... nothing I didn't already know... but it is providing a black and white guide. This guide makes it easier for me since I am trying to recover from several weeks of "anything goes" while I was dealing with the nausea and fatigue. I like having specifics to go by.

I hope you feel better soon! Take care!

Autumn

Hey Autumn,
I can empathize with you on the weight gain... I am at the high end of the recommended amount of weight gain. It sucks. It is soooo easy to gain weight right now and since this is my first pregnancy I'm not sure what I could be doing different or if this is normal. My workouts have been pretty good except for the last few weeks. My eating habits could be better, I'll admit. I'm trying not to stress about it too much.
It's hard not to think about the weight when you get stupid comments from people. Just today I had a coworker tell me I was "getting up there". When I asked her to explain she responded with "are you having twins? You're looking awfully big." I was so annoyed with her comment. I can't help it my belly (and everything else) is getting big!!!! ah!! I'm letting it get the better of me -- stupid hormones!

Autumn,
Thanks for the encouraging words. :)

Picking up a copy of Fit Pregnancy might be helpful for me as well. I think it would be useful to get a refresher on eating guidelines. [I'm gonna be a copy cat!]. Like you, I had several weeks of relaxed eating and workout schedules during the nausea & sleepy times in the early stages.

I just want to feel normal again... I don't mind the weight gain so much -- I just can't stand the jigglies on my arms and butt. I recently suddenly realized that I have gained some rather nasty love handles as well. Yucky! Do you suppose it is realistic to set goals to firm these areas up again while pregnant? They were pretty firm when I got pregnant but due to lack of exercise in the early stages, they have lost quite a bit of muscle tone. I know pregnancy is not the time to set exercise goals but, if I was already there, is is possible? I guess I will continue with what I am doing and hope that they firm back up. Hopefully cleaning up my diet and limiting my desserts will make a difference as well!

When I was pg with my first two, I literally felt like I ate LESS pregnant than I did NOT pregnant and STILL gained a lb. a week. It's VERY frustrating that you need to watch so much in order to stay where you want to with regards to weight gain. That is one of my least favorite parts about pregnancy. If I remember correctly, I felt HUNGRY all the time with my son, but not so bad with my daughter. If that holds true for me this time, then I am definitely having a boy again because I am starving every 1 1/2.

With my first two, I was so sick for the first 16 weeks that I think if anything, I lost weight. Actually, I bet I'd gained 4-6 lbs by the 16th week. Don't ask me how because I swear, I wasn't eating much more than a few crackers. With this pregnancy, I feel like the more I eat, the better I feel, so I eat whenever I feel nauseous. It makes it really hard to stay in control of the weight gain. And what is even more frustrating is that my scale is so inaccurate, I have no idea how much I've gained. I am going to buy a decent scale this week and then really watch it from here on out. I can really tell that my body has changed within the past couple of weeks. I know my diet probably has something to do with that. I have to wait until I go to the dr to see how much weight I have gained. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I only gained 4 lbs since my last appt. We'll see... Even as I'm typing this, I really want some cookies!

Anyway, you guys are working out so much. We all have bad weeks from time to time. Don't be too hard on yourself. You guys are disciplined, already have a love for working out, and you're going to be back in those prepregnancy clothes before you know it. Trust me, your baby will be so worth it. But you already know that, don't you? :)

Lets make a pact to check in next week with healthier eating and at least 4 or 5 workouts. Are you in? I have one in for the week already - leaner legs with the 35 lb bar. I had been wimping out using just 25 lbs while not feeling so good. But felt it was time to stop making excuses. I could really feel it on the plie's though. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be doing those. My pelvic floor is so much weaker with this 3rd pregnancy. I really felt a difference with my second, and I'm afraid this one is going to be even worse. And I kegel! Oh well...

I'm really excited about the clothes that I ordered so I'll be sure to let you all know if they're any good. I like Old Navy's prices too, and may end up getting a few things there as well. I can actually try on clothes at some of the stores in Seattle. How nice!

Autumn, what is Sonic?

Christy: I can't believe that your co-worker would say something so rude. My husband would probably have an awesome comeback for her. I'm never any good at thinking of a good reply to rude people like that.

Stacey

Hi Stacey!
Count me in! My eating habits will be better starting this very minute and I will workout 4-5 times this week. No excuses this week! I'll be reporting in next week with much better results...

p.s.
I just wanted to apologize to everyone for all my whining today. It was just one of those days. It certainly is not helping or resolving the situation - only changing my habits will...

Hi Ladies -
I had a pretty good week but I, too, indulged a little more than usual. My husband is a fantastic cook (he's Italian!). In fact, he IS the cook in our family because I don't like to do it (but will if I have to!). He made a batch of killer double peanut butter cookies to take to a special work meeting he had Saturday morning. They were proper portion size - not huge cookies - but I ended up eating 6 that day. The weekend before he made chocolate cheesecake to bring to dinner at a friend's house. I had just one piece but unfortunately there's a second cheesecake -- still untouched -- in the refrigerator! At my last appointment a couple of weeks ago, the doctor said I'm right where I should be weight-gain wise so I'm trying to worry about it!

Sun-CTX Step&Int/Chest
Mon-CTX Kickbox/Biceps
Tue-CTX 10-10-10/Triceps
Wed-off
Thu-CTX Power Circuit/Back
Fri-CTX All Step/Shoulders
Sat-off

I'm finding that I am really having to modify a lot now mostly for comfort. I can't imagine what I'll be modifying to as the baby keeps growing.

Christy - that comment by your co-worker was very rude. What's with some people?

Have a good week, everyone!

Hi everyone

Count me in Stacey. I'm determined to do better this week! I've already got two workouts in this week and plan on doing one as soon as I finish this. No more excuses! I gained over 50 lbs. with each of my first two pregnancies and I'm not going to gain that much this time.

Tomorrow I go in for my sonogram so I'll have a more reliable due date. I'm hoping they'll move it up a couple of weeks:) Then on Thursday I have to take the 3 hour gluclose tolerance test since I failed the first one. Not fun! Stacey the reason why I had to take it so early is they think I'm high risk because I have diabetes in my family.

Stacey- to answer your question about Sonic (I hope Autumn doesn't mind) it's a drive-in restaurant. You drive up to the speaker box and place your order then a car-hop brings it out to you (sometimes they even wear roller skates) Kind of like a 1950's restaurant. They have the best hamburgers and onion rings and I love their cherry limeaids. You don't have these in Seattle? (I believe that's where you said you were from if I'm wrong I apologize.)I'm here in sunny Arizona where the temperature is already 90 degrees. It's going to be a long summer.
And I can totally relate to Autumn about the whole teenager thing. My sister is 2 years younger than me and her oldest just turned sixteen. Man I feel old! (Granted, she did have him when she was only fifteen but still!)

Stacey, I think you'll like the clothes from Gap. The maternity clothes I wore last week (I haven't worn any since) were from there. I love the capri jeans, they don't feel like maternity. The ones I ordered don't have the stretchy panel in front they just sit below the belly. Yesterday I ordered some tops from Old Navy, they have some cute stuff and you can't beat the prices.

I'm writing all of this then realized I have posted my workouts for last week. (Or should I say workout because I only did one)

Thurs. Cardio & Weights

Is anyone else anxiously waiting for Cathe's new workouts to be released. I can't wait! I think the beg/int ones will be perfect for me right now and the Advanced one will be good for getting back in shape after baby. The clips look great!

Christy- isn't it funny how people think that just because you're pregnant that they can make remarks about the way you look. That really bugs me! I've already had it happen to me and I'm sure it'll only get worse. I know most of them don't mean any offense by it but still they should think before they speak. I don't go around commenting on how they look and I could think of a few things to say too

:p

I would love to join you ladies in your commitment to eat better, but I have already blown that. I made this snack mix for my DAUGHTER that I keep eating. I’ll start tomorrow, and I’ll be good the rest of today.

Christy, people can be cruel. I guess they don’t mean anything by it, but it sure does seem that some derive great pleasure out of saying things. Women (assuming it was a woman) are so catty, which I think is usually out of jealousy. Also, there is no need to apologize Christy. Sometimes a person just needs to vent, I didn’t think you were whining.

Oh Diana, a chocolate cheesecake sounds soooooooo wonderful. I have some great recipes for chocolate cheesecake. Oh, and one for a Bailey’s Irish Cream cheesecake that is pretty darn good... but I favor the chocolate. :) I like to add Mascarpone cheese to my cheesecakes...so creamy. I must stop this! :)

Jacque, I don’t mind at all that you answered the Sonic question. I am with ya on the limeaids...yum! We must be about the same age (I am 33), which is by no means old. It is just so strange to think I could have a teenager. I first acknowledged my “maturity” when the new physicians came into our clinic… one of the partners is only 30. Oh, and he is HOT!! I just know he is going to deliver me. :) Anyway, I started feeling even more “mature” when I started providing family planning services for young ladies born the year my hubby graduated and they just kept getting closer to the year I graduated. :) Then, I actually provided services to the daughter of a friend I have know since I was a high school freshman... she was my first locker partner... I have known her daughter since she was born... that was awkward especially since my friend interrogated me about her daughter and I couldn’t breach confidentiality. Oh well, you can't stop time from marching on!

We are going to have a great week ladies!

Hey guys - I'm glad we're all together on making this a good week. So far so good for me. I'm going to go workout as soon as I finish posting this.

Christy: I hope you feel like you can whine here of all places. We are all going through similar things together and I love the network that we have here to help eachother out. I have probably been the biggest whiner out of all of you! And you guys haven't kicked me out yet. You've made me feel a lot better at times, too.

Diana: The next time your dh makes those killer cookies, could you mail me some? They sound delicious!

Jacque: I'm actually from a city called Gig Harbor which is 45 minutes from Seattle. I've been to drive-thru's before, but that is what we call them here - drive thru's. I'm sure there is one (or more in Seattle maybe even called Sonic) but the reason I asked about the name is because we have the Seattle Sonics (our basketball team), I knew that wasn't what she was referring to, but was just curious about what "sonic" as a place was. Maybe I'll have to check one out the next time I'm up there. We don't go up there that often. It's a neat city though, I wish we did go more often. Your Arizona weather sounds heavenly! We had a 75 degree day on Monday, and then yesterday and today have been windy and cold! I can't wait for those nice, warm, sunny days that are just around the corner.

Thanks for the information about the Gap's clothes. The pants you started with (if I'm thinking of the right ones - no panel, sit low on the waist? Good until about your fifth month?) are similar to what I am still wearing - nonmaternity low-rise pants. I have tried on some of my pants that were previously too big in the waist that have higher waist bands and altough I can still zip and button them, I was sucking my stomach in, and wouldn't dare leave the house like that as it would make my stomach hurt. I am so glad that the lowrise pants are in as it's making this transition period for me much easier.

I am excited for an update after your ultrasound. I hope they were able to determine the sex!

My next appt. is on Friday. I am really surprised that I haven't felt the baby move yet. I think there have been a couple of times when I've thought I might have felt baby, but I'm not sure. I know I felt the other 2 move much sooner than this, but I think I'm just unable to slow down enough to really feel for it.

Stacey

Hi again,

I had my sonogram today. Turns out that my due date is accurate. Everything looks good but couldn't determine the sex yet.

Autumn- you guessed right we are pretty close in age I'm 34. I have friends whose kids are getting ready to graduate from high school and others who are grandparents already. My husband says it feels like were starting over again our oldest son is 11 (almost 12) and our other one is 5 and starting kindergarten in the fall.

Jacque

Oh, they couldn't predict the sex? I know how much you wanted to know. Any chance you get a second ultrasound? Do you have a preference?

I have one of each and don't really care what I'm having, but I feel as if it's a boy. No reason in general, probably just because I had my son first and my daughter second. Not a very scientific method for figuring to be sure.

Stacey

Hi all you pregos,
I thought I'd chime in and gine my advice on maternity clothes. I had good luck with gap and old navy. If there is a baby gap outlet near you vheck it out, they usually stock maternity clothes. Also, old navy now has maternity in the stores, I wish they did when I was pregnant. I bought alot off ebay and got some clothes at thrift stores. Type in your size on ebay, I kept doing checks of gap and old navy on ebay, I got 2 adorable dresses and on me the xs worked(as I am real petite). I also bought an old navy maternity bathing suit through their web site, it felt well the whole summer and like you stacey I was due in Sept. By the way, I am 34 and had the baby, my first at 33.
