Pregnancy Check-in Week of 03-14-04

Hi ladies!

Well, unfortunately last week is not so great when it comes to workouts. It was just one of those weeks... My dad was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday (released Saturday) so a lot of my time this week was spent with him. Plus, I got a nasty cold and which made me totally unmotivated to squeeze even a short workout in.

Anyway, here's my week:
Sunday - off
Monday - Bootcamp (I love this workout!)
Tuesday - Push/Pull
Wednesday - off
Thursday - off
Friday - off
Saturday - walked

Hope every is doing well today and had a great week!

My week was sooo bad that I didn't even know if I would post or not. My husband was gone all last week, and then I was pretty busy with my business the first portion of the week, plus my step-daughter came to stay with us since dad was gone - I think she thought she was doing me a favor, but I really just wanted to be alone! Anyway, she sleeps in the 400 sf "bonus" room which is also the kids playroom and my workout area. She stayed home sick on Thursday and slept in so late that by the time I would have been able to workout, I no longer had the energy. :-( On top of that, I ate lunch out 4 x's last week, and dinner out 5 times. I am vowing to do great this week!

Monday: All Step & Shoulders
Tuesday: Off - can I at least count an upper-body workout for this day? I stuffed 2500 envelopes into newsletters, and 4000 letters into envelopes, and sealed 2500 envelopes. I was wiped!
Wednesday: Off - but I did clean my 2500 sf house, so it wasn't a total loss
Thursday: Off - this was the day my step-daughter stayed home sick
Friday: Leaner Legs
Saturday: Off

Hi Ladies! Stacey, I have a house about the same size and it is a pretty good workout cleaning it… definitely not a total loss. BTW, LOL regarding the envelope stuffing. :)

I did have a log for the week of 03-07 (just repeated the Timesaver routine from the week of 2/29), but I was super busy last week and never got it posted. I had a pretty good week despite my injured foot. I have the worst luck with my feet when I am pregnant. I was preparing to clean Sydney’s room and stepped just right on a toy and my foot twisted off the inside of my flip-flop. I didn’t think much about it, but by Friday it was worse rather than better so it was x-rayed, which I guess was negative since I haven’t otherwise. The funny… well maybe not so funny…thing is that I injured my left foot when I was 20 weeks with my daughter, and I have now injured my right foot at 22 weeks. My hubby says if we have anymore I am going on bed rest at 20 weeks. :)

Well, on to my workout log:
Sunday: Off
Monday: Step Heat + PUB Back + Planks
Tuesday: CK + PUB Chest & Tri
Wednesday: PLB (pyramid up only) + Ab Hits
Thursday: Step Heat + PUB Shoulders
Friday: CK + PUB Biceps + Ab hits
Saturday: Off

We had “the ultrasound” on 3-12, and it is a boy. I love my husband’s name, Matthew Joseph, but he doesn’t want a junior or MJ, II. We are leaning towards Jordan Matthew. I was watching “Legends of the Fall” this weekend, and I like Tristan Matthew too. I also like the name Gabrielle, but Matthew doesn’t work with it. I am determined to use Matthew.

Well, I have rambled enough. Hope y'all have a great week!

Autumn,
Yeah! Congrats on the news! A boy! :) How fun!
Here is one vote for "Jordan" - it's unique, but, not really different.

Hopefully your foot injury is not too painful and does not prohibit you from doing your Cathe workouts.

Take care,

Christy

Stacey,
I was cracking up with your counting how many times you went out to eat last week... That's a fairly normal week at my house. I hate cooking!
The only time I cook is when hubby is home - otherwise it is not even worth all the extra effort. Pre-pregnancy days, a bowl of cereal was a "home cooked meal"! :)

Hi girls! Christy - I am with you! I hate cooking - especially for just my 2-1/2 year old and me. My husband usually isn't home for dinner since he works swing shift. Stacey - I'm glad that you posted anyway! We all have weeks like that! I was laughing reading your story about your "visitor!" I have to work out in the living room, so it makes it really difficult when we have company! Most people don't understand either! Like the majority of the Catheites, it is a necessity for me, otherwise, I am a total crabbox!! :p
Autumn - congrats on your news! So now you will have a boy and a girl! What fun! :D

Well, here was my week:
Sun: off
Mon: Step blast
Tues: Tone It Up
Wed: MIC-warm-up, step portion, cool down
Th: off
Fri: C&W - cardio
Sat: Firm-PP Fat Burning (wasn't much in the mood to work out, just wanted to do something to get moving)

Have a great week, girls!

Hello! I had a bad week last week workout wise too! So glad it is not just me!!

Saturday - taught a total body weight class then walked for 40min.
Sunday - Kickbox and yoga
Monday - Push/Pull
Tuesday - off
Wednesday - off
Thursday - off
Friday - off
Saturday - taught class then walked 45min

Christy - how on earth can you still do Bootcamp? I tried it and it nearly killed me!!

Hi Charlene!
Bootcamp is my favorite Cathe workout! I tend to get bored easily if there are too many "take it from the top" sections - but, this one keeps me on my toes - literally! Surprisingly, I was able to do almost all the high impact moves. I felt strong and brave that day. I'm at the point now where I will need to take it down a notch...

Don't get down on yourself regarding your workouts. You're doing great, really!

Take Care!

You guys all crack me up. Thanks for your posts. They put a smile on my face.

I am doing much better on my workouts so far this week. Yay! Hopefully I can keep it up!

Christy - with regards to the last poster and Boot Camp, I don't have that tape and was thinking of ordering it, but was planning on using it as a post-pregnancy workout tape since I have no prepregnancy experience with it. How is that tape? I did Kick Punch and Crunch yesterday and today, but split it up into two separate workouts to make it more manageable. If I remember correctly, I felt a lot more energetic and could do a more intense workout once I got out of the first trimester, tired, blah, feeling yucky phase which usually lasts until 18 weeks for me.

Thanks!
Stacey

I have been really bad about cooking lately - my thing is that when I'm pg, nothing sounds good until its time to eat. By the time you know what you want, you can't wait to go to the grocery store, buy it, come home, prepare it, then eat it. It would be too late and by that time I'd be too sick! So I have been eating out way more than I used to. I still make healthy choices most of the time, but still...

I probably just need to start meal planning again. I love my slow-cooker. Very convenient!

I think everyone is doing a great job with the workouts. I figure if you can get even two or three done in a week with all the hectic stuff going on you're doing great. My energy is seems to be rollercoasting again. I found I was feeling great at the beginning of the week but by week's end I was dragging. And I really have no excuse!

Sun: Off
Mon: Cardio Kicks
Tue: PS Chest/Shoulders/Triceps & PS Back/Biceps/Abs
Wed: Off
Thu: PS Legs/Abs
Fri: Rhythmic Step
Sat: Off

I had to seriously tone RS down on Friday. This is my favorite all-step Cathe workout but I won't be doing this one again until after baby arrives. I'm getting uncomfortable with lots of turns.

Wow, Christy! I haven't done BC since before I got pregnant. In fact, I've avoided the IS altogether but I'm looking forward to putting that series into high gear postpartum.

I started feeling some movement at about 18 weeks but now at almost 20 it's unmistakeable and he/she seems quite active. Have a great week.

Thanks ladies for the congrats! I am just happy to have a healthy baby!

Christy, I have noted your vote for Jordan. :) Sydney is leaning toward Tigger or Shelby dog (our dog's name so Shelby is out :). Hmmmmm... Tigger Matthew... hmmmmm.... :)

Sara, I am with you on the crabbox if I don't get a workout in... it helps my moods so much especially with these hormones.

Hi Stacey,
You have to get Bootcamp! It is a great workout. I can't say enough positive things about it.

Here is the break down:
1 minute intense cardio
1 minute lower body
1 minute upper body
1 minute core/abs
repeat above 8 times (8 circuits)

This whole workout is fun and intense. What's great about it is that each section is not overly long. Some of the cardio sections you think you are not going to make it through and then Cathe says something like... "Just tell yourself you can do anything for a minute" and then you get your second wind to finish up the last 20 seconds or so.

There is one cardio section where you do "terminators". These babies are tough. I struggle with them normally and now find they are impossible to do. (Too winded and the extra weight of the baby is just enough to put me over the edge). So, there are some modifications going on...

I should probably point out that I like step...but, I love hi/lo. The only step used is the high step and even that is very little. You use weights for the upper/lower body sections (8lbs) and the core/abs usually use a 8lb medicine ball but can be modified to use a hand weight.

I own Kick Punch and Crunch and have not done the whole thing from beginning to end yet. It's sooo long! I got pregnant right before that DVD series was shipped and then had zero energy to try it when it arrived. I've done the timesaver workout (#4?) that used portions of the workout and had a blast with it. Can't wait to try the whole workout as it looks like fun. I'm saving it for post-partum as I remember hearing someone say that it is Cathe's most intense workout ever.

Well, I'll wrap it up. If there is anything else you want to know, let me know.

Thanks for such a thorough description of Bootcamp. It sounds just like my style. I really enjoy things that are broken up like that. The thing that I love so much about KPC, is that you do intense intervals but then you get a rest inbetween. I really enjoy the rests! Especially being pregnant! It is pretty intense, and I am so bummed because I had only done it all the way through a few times before I got pg. I think I was probably in the shape of my life prior to getting pg and I just hope that I can get it back. I just remember how hard it is to squeeze those workouts in when there is a little baby in the house. Luckily my husband is pretty wonderful and helps me out there as much as possible.

I am definitely going to order Bootcamp. I was planning on ordering Interval Max 2, and the high-step intense workout that Cathe is just making. Out of the intensity series, what other tapes do you think I should order? I have all of Cathe's tapes with the exception of a couple of her very old step tapes. I just didn't order the intensity series when it came out as we had just moved into our new home and I was in buying home decor mode. I didn't want to spend any of my decorating dollars on workout tapes, but I definitely want more variety now.

Thanks!

Stacey

Hi Stacey -
Check your e-mail! I sent you a message. In my opinion, the IS is Cathe's best release to date. I got into the best shape I've ever been in using all the tapes in that series so I would get them all! The pyramid tapes are great - I get real nice muscle tone using those and Muscle Endurance is really challenging and fun. Cardio & Weights is fun, too. The core work is the best in the series. I've put the IS on hold until after baby arrives because my heart rate just soars now and I have to be very careful, but I can't wait to get back to it to help lose the pregnancy weight. Anyway, hope this helps! Diana

I think ya' all are being too hard on yourself! Your workouts look great!

I had a tough week too, had a cold but am finally getting over it this week!!!!

dCat - I totally agree that the IS series is the absolute best to date! I wish she would do another similar set.

Here's my workouts for last week. Body for Life is really helping me keep my eating under control. No more eating out for me except on free day!

Sun - REST - sick with cold
Mon - UB/Cardio at gym, step class at gym.
Tues - Legs & Glutes
Wed - Timesaver #3 - Step segment Plus 3 hi/lox
Thurs - S&H Chest/Shoulders triceps
Fri - Cardio treadmill
Sat - Rest still fighting cold

Hi Stacey,
If you can swing it, I would get the whole IS series. I agree with the other ladies - this is Cathe's best series to date.

My favorites from this series are Bootcamp, Imax2 and Cardio & Weights.

IMAX2 is pretty intense - but, still fun. (I feel IMAX1 is more intense.)
Cardio & Weights is a great circuit workout. It's hard to rate this one - it's a steady advanced workout. It is less intense than Bootcamp. I would probably rank it around Circuit Max (which is another of my all time favorites by Cathe).

I've not really given the Pyramid workouts a fair chance. I did them a few times and remember liking them but, I'm not a huge fan of strength training. I have not been really good about doing any strength workouts on a consistent basis.

HTH!

Hi everyone,

My week wasn't too great either. Here it is. It's almost painful to write.

Sun: off
Mon: Rythmic Step
Tues. Power Hour
Wed. off
Thurs. off
Fri: off
Sat: off again (went out of town)

I need to get more motivated. I really have no excuse for not working out more because I don't feel bad. Just a little tired is all.

Here's a little update. I had a Dr. appt last Fri. the nurse midwife who checked me is convinced that I'm further along in my pregnancy than what they first thought. She said my uterus was measuring at 14 weeks and not 11 weeks 5 days (which is what I was that day) She scheduled me for a sonogram on the 31st so they can find out for sure how far along I am. I just don't know how I can be that far along because I had a regular period. I won't mind though if it turns out I am 3 weeks farther along:) I was able to hear the heartbeat of the first time. That was nice, makes it seem more real. They also did a ton of lab work that day. I got the results back today. They say that I'm anemic and that I failed the gluclose tolerance test. On the gluclose test I tested at 144 and it shouldn't be higher than 140. So next week I have to go back and take the 3 hour gluclose test. Not fun! My blood pressure has been a little on the high side too. I've always been very healthy so all of this is a little scary. I have a feeling that this pregnancy isn't going to be as easy as my first two.

Well today I'm wearing my maternity clothes for the first time. I've put off wearing them because I've felt like it was too soon but I'm tired of my clothes being so tight so I said what the heck I'm wearing them. I've only gained around 4 pounds but it sure feels like alot more than that:)

Autumn- how exciting to know you're having a boy. I can't wait until I know what I'm having. Since I probaly won't be having another sonogram (and it'll be too early to tell next week) I'm going to go to one of those places that take 3D pictures of the baby. Have you heard of those? It'll be alot cheaper than having another sonogram!
I hope your foot is better.

Stacey- I agree with the others on the Intensity Series. I think it's one of Cathe's best. You need to get them all! I did Cardio and Weights yesterday. It's so much fun! I did it on a 4" step. I felt kind of whimpy because I've never lowered it that much but it felt good. I was worked out but didn't feel so exhausted afterwards.

Take care until next week!

EDD 10-5-04?

Jacque:

I'm so glad that you posted. I've been wondering about you. Why did you take a glucose test so early? I always thought that was done around the 28 week mark? I guess maybe you had sugar in your urine? My SIL tested borderline diabetic when she was pg. They put her on a diabetic diet and she never ended up getting it. With regards to the blood pressure, were you having a bad day? Mine has always been very low. When I was pg with my son (my first) I was working. I didn't know at the time if I would continue working, or not. I was hoping to work from home. My boss had told me that would be fine. Then, the day of my appt. he told me he had changed his mind. I was so upset! My blood pressure was high that day. Maybe you had something upset you before your appointment? If you are a couple of weeks ahead of where they think you are, they will most likely be able to determine the sex. When I was pg with my daughter, I had an ultrasound at 14 weeks, and they knew it was a girl. I think the genitals are formed and able to be seen around 12 or 13 weeks via ultrasound. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you are far enough along.

I am still wearing my prepregnancy clothes. I am really loving my low-rise American Eagle jeans and seriously hoping that because they are so low, I'll be able to wear them for a very long time. I did stop wearing the 2's a couple of weeks ago, and today, I started to feel kind of stuffed into the 4's. Not really like they didn't fit, just like the didn't want to stay up in the front. I am kind of feeling like they are tighter in the legs and butt. But, I do think I'll get a few more weeks out of them. Anyone out there hoping to stay out of maternity for as long as possible should seriously try them.

I'm having such a hard time finding shirts that I like that cover my belly. I was big into the shirts that showed just a tiny bit of my tummy off, but now I feel kind of self-conscious although my dh swears to me that I look better than 90% of the women who do wear them even though I'm 15 1/2 weeks pg. I just think that's what he's supposed to say, right? And, I'm sure to keep great posture with my shoulders back which really helps! Anyway, I did buy a size 6 and they are very comfortable. I also have a couple of older pairs of 4's that still fit really well even though they aren't quite as low. If I could just find an answer to the shirts, I think I could be okay for a couple more months. ? We'll see. I really do hate maternity clothes. Especially since the ones that I like are $90 or more. That's so ridiculous for a shirt that I will wear for 4 months at the most. I refuse to wear the "tent" shirts that make women look way larger than they actually are.

I know exactly what you mean about the motivation. I have felt good all week (except Friday I felt as though I had a slight touch of the flu for the first part of the day, so I skipped my workout) but I am having the hardest time doing ANYTHING! I hope so much that this ends in the next week or two. All I want to do is sit and read or watch t.v., or go do something fun with family/friends. I am trying to get up the motivation right now to just do section 2 of Power Max (only 20 some minutes) plus Chest, Shoulders, Triceps. How hard is that? Yet I can't seem to get the motivation up to do it. I need to work for about an hour right now, then I might try to do it really quick - at least one of them, so I don't feel like a total loser. I really caved on the self-discipline with food this week, too. Not only did I eat out quite a bit yet again, but I also ate 5 cookies yesterday AND a toaster strudel, but I also had a mocha blast (an ice cream/coffee drink that is so yummy) and 5 cookies again today! (The Pillsbury break and bakes are so delicious that I can't resist them when I make them. I even find myself hiding them from my kids so I don't have to share! How mean is that?) I am not going to buy them again for a VERY long time. To make matters worse, my scale is just getting so old that I don't think it's very reliable anymore. In past pregnancies, I always relied on my scale to keep me disciplined. With this pregnancy I have no idea if I've even gained any weight because its such a piece of C _ _ P. I would assume I've gained 4-6 lbs. but don't know exactly. I know my measurements are the same except thighs are about 1/2 inch bigger, waist is 3-4 inches bigger, and bust is 3 inches bigger. I am going to get a good scale this week though and really keep on it.

Thank you for the info on the intensity series. I am definitely going to buy it!

Sorry this got so long, everyone. Guess I'm really trying to put off my work. :-( I hope everyone had a great week for next week's checkin. Mine was mediocre. It would be better if I would just go workout tonight...we'll see. :)
