Preggo's Check-in - April 6-13

My midwife Appt. went well today. Baby was hiding so I didn't get to hear the beartbeat. Bummer. I was really looking forward to it. The midwife was feeling around my lower abs to feel where the top of the uterus was and she said that it was really hard to tell because my ab muscles were really hard!!!! That was the best thing anybody has ever said to me! She said I'm healthy as can be and expects this to be an uneventful pregnancy. yay to that!

Morris, What a fun job! I love our vet. We had to put one of our great danes to sleep at Christmastime and he spent over an hour with us helping us out. Great guy. Hope you get some sleep tonight.

Maggie, How many kitties do you have? DDs want one soooo bad. DH says no way. How did the cleaning go?

Hey guys! Just wanted to check-in and say hello. I was feeling great the last couple days and then today not so good. The nausea came back. The good thing is that fruits and veggies really make me feel great so this baby is forcing me to eat healthy now! I haven't worked out since Sunday, but I'm planning on doing shoulders tonight and some cardio depending on how I'm feeling.

Kate - Sorry about not being able to hear the hb. What a bummer, but yay for a great appt!

Maggie - Ooooh, sorry about the freezer! And chicken breast is pricey so I feel your pain.

Lisa

Hi,
Well, that darn cold came back in full force! I called the OB yesterday, and I went to see one of them in the afternoon. It was quite funny when he looked at my throat with that light that they shine where the sun usually doesn't shine:p . He diagnosed it as an upper RI, and prescribed a Z-pack. Wow-you should see what has been hiding in my sinuses (no wonder I felt like such crap). I still do (a little), but I am on the mend. Still no workouts-I couldn't even begin to think about doing them. I need to get better first.

Morris-That's so cool that you are a vet. Make way for vet ?'s:) . My little cat has seen his share of a vet in the past 3 weeks. Two cat fights (and two absesses). They are taken care of now, but yesterday, I noticed that a patch of hair is taken off his hind leg. He's grounded!!!

Maggie-So, you have dealers in your neighborhood? That's scary (well, at least they are nice dealers-it could be worse).

Kate-I wish someone told me I had hard abs. What a compliment! You'll hear the heartbeat next time! Sometimes, it's so hard to hear it.

Lisa-sorry about the nausea. Great eating, though!

Kristan-I tried the Famous Dave's fair tanner yesterday, and there was only a very faint smell as the day went on. The color is light (that's good for now), and I am fair-skinned so I didn't want any drastic change. I will apply another layer today. I didn't see any streaks, and it is very moisturizing (and that's not even the moisture tan). I will give updates as I use it.

Hi Anne!

I'm off to see if that Pregzilla shirt is in yet at 2chix. I've been waiting for it!

-Jen

Lisa, I wish my baby wanted produce. It wants CARBS! Trying hard to get my produce in though. I hope today is better for you.

Jen, I hope your shirt is in! My 2 more came y'day. Soooo comfy. The midwives loved it. Glad you're getting some relief from your cold.

Hoping for a nice quiet day w/ DDs. It's Gina's spring break and we've been gogogo. Hoping to keep it low today - maybe I'll be able to sneak in some Classical Stretch while they're playing.

Morris- my kids come late. They grow big with no exit strategy. But, I've made a lot of childbirth decisions based on babies identified as big via u/s and then wind up being the same 9 pounds, 22 inches. I know that's big, but it's not 10 pounds+. I scheduled a c/section because I was told my son was more than 10 pounds, and he wasn't- same old nine pounds.

I think having a good vet is as important as a good pediatrician. We lost our german shep/mastiff mutt to IMHA- the vet was very reassuring that it was a fluke or was propelled by an underlying cancer. I always worry that we let him eat something that made him sick.

Maggie- I think the extra ultrasounds have been a combination of my advanced maternal age (ha ha) and the fact the OB is a friend. I am loving the practice- my ob friend, his partners and the staff. THe only problem is that the hospital is the big baby factory and it's 10 miles away, but it is well equipped for emergencies and the rooms have cable. It is a Catholic hospital which is important to me. The hospital for the other 3 kids was much closer to home, but my pediatrician didn't go there. It will be nice to see my ped at the hospital this time.

Kristan, Sorry you run late! My girls were 10 and 11 days early - thank goodness! And small - 6 and 7 pounds. Hey, at least you're consistent! What is IMHA? It's nice your hosp. is so close. OUr birth center is a little over 30 min away. Isabel came so fast I'm scared I won't make it!

I just finished Classical Stretch and I feel all nice and loosey-goosey. Haven't done it since early preg and I missed it. I think I'm going to rework my rotation so I'm doing a total body weights 1-2x/week, Bar 2x/week, lots of stretching and some cardio. I have the Perfect Preg. WO which I previewed last night finally- looks great. I think I'll put it on for Saturday. Boy, does it feel good to WO regularly again.

Kate--the cleaning went pretty well, if you use the term loosely. I'm somewhat relaxed when it comes to housework. We have 2 kitties that my dh rescued from abandonment in a garbage can on one of his job sites. Right now they are prowling around the house yowling and waking us up. They are totally in heat, so getting them fixed can't come soon enough. The kids take care of them. I'm too busy for cats.

Lisa--I've been craving healthy foods too (and some junk unfortunately). I've never eaten so many oranges in my life. I think it's why I've been so regular this pregnancy--I'm eating tons of fiber. Ugh! I'm just eating too much as my rapid weight gain indicates.

Jen--I'm glad you are getting the medication you need and are finally on the mend. It sucks to be that sick, especially when dealing with the ickiness of pregnancy.

Kristan--I always laugh at advanced maternal age. I'm almost 40 and feeling it, but I hardly think of myself as "advanced". Bummer you are always late. I'm always a crying mess by the time the due date rolls around. The latest I've been is 2 days and the earliest 4 days, because I had to be induced due to sudden high blood pressure.

We need to go do chores and I need to prepare for the final leg of school, since our spring break ends this week. I'm also working through my son's algebra 1 and biology text books to get a good feeling for what he'll be studying next fall. I could "wing it" through 8th grade work, but not anymore.

Take care everyone!

Maggie:)

Maggie, Cats in heat - yuck!!! That is one of the grossest things I can think of. Good for you on the oranges. Kudos to you on the home-schooling. What made you start to do it? We have Gina in public school...for now. But I haven't ruled out homeschooling. She was terribly shy and the homeschool group in my area didn't seem to be too swell. We put her in preschool and the little thing just blossomed. She has become a different kid - outgoing now. Before she wouldn't even talk to ME at a grocery store because she was afraid someone would hear her.

I had a good nap and then some homemade apple bread - bring on the carbs!! Off to check the freezer for dinner stuff..

did i hear homemade apple bread? can you fedex me some;-) ? kate, please let me know what the perfect preg workout is like and consists of - sounds interesting! great job with the workouts. it is nice to feel good.

maggie, cats in heat are awful! good luck. i know just what you mean about being a crying mess by the end. i was 3 days early with ds. i am hoping to take after kate this time and be 10 or 12 early!

kristan, i had lots of us with ds b/c i measured consistenly 4 weeks behind. ds was an easy 5.4 lbs at birth. so far i am just 1 week behind. funny, but my weight gain is the same as last time. go figure! glad you like your new doc so much.

jen, sorry for the relapse. hope it resolves quickly.

hi anne!

i had a great run today - 8 miles. my 10 mile days are behind me for the forseeable future, but that is just fine. tomorrow is my long day, and i am already so tired!! dh and i went out for a belated 5th anniversary dinner last night. i had fish and brocollini and triple choclate frozen yougart for dessert. sooo goood. i swear, though, i could eat an entire bakery. so far i have abstained, so far}(

Hi ladies!
What's with the drug dealer chatter...I think I missed a post. That stinks that you have to deal with that Maggie!

Lisa - Glad you're eating well and feeling better. I really need to start eating more fruit and veggies. My skin is just horrible these days. A lot of breakouts and I feel like I'm jiggly everywhere.

Jen - Sorry about the upper RI. Hope it goes away quickly for you and you start feeling better soon.

Kate - Yay for rock hard abs! Glad you had a good mid wife appointment.

Kristan - Wow, hair on an u/s. I've only heard of that on those 3D ultrasounds. How cool is that!

Hi Morris!

Nothing new here. Have my u/s tomorrow, so hoping to see some growth! Just really tired these days and unmotivated to exercise.

So, I got Jenny McCarthy's book 'Belly Laughs - The naked truth about pregnancy and childbirth'. It's just her personal experience and it's pretty darn hilarious. I'll let you know how it is when I'm done. Of course, you all have kids, but I'm sure you'll be able to relate and laugh hystarically. Me, it will all be firsts for me!

Chat later,

MOrris, I'm doing that WO on Saturday- -I'll let you know. Hey, 8 miles is a heck of a lot more than I can do! Good for you! I know what you mean you mean on eating a whole bakery! I had a TON of apple bread y'day. Last night I had an oatmeal cookie at DH's grandma's house. But then I came home and threw it up - no calories!!!

Anne, Sorry for the skin and jiggle issues. Are you a tea drinker? There are lots of teas DH likes for skin issues. Hope the u/s goes good today - let us know! I've never read that book but wanted to. Sounds funny.

Other than puking last night I'm doing good. Hoping to do 4DS legs, calves, and shoulders tongiht. We have a terribly busy day planned - I hope I have enough energy tongiht!

oatmeal cookies sound good too.... i am soo hungry!! well, i got up early and did kbx and part of hi lox this am - felt terrible until i was done, but boy am i glad i did it. today seems so stressful already.

anne, sorry for the jiggle. i am trying to avoid looking in the mirror at all as i want this jiggle gone but, what can you do?

hope everyone is having a good day. i will bbl

Morris, I highly doubt you jiggle! You sound like a picture of pg health perfection! Glad you got your WO in.

My SIL just had her 12-week checkup too w/ a different doc than I go to and she couldn't hear the hb either. She got an U/s though - wah! I wanna see my baby! 7 more weeks... I can be patient.... I think!

speaking of us, i think today is anne's big day???? i am frequently checking today....

as for the picture of health, okay if i hold an ice cream sandwich in one hand?? i cannot eat enough today.x(

Well, no heartbeat today, so I'm a tad crushed tonight. We'll wait a week and have a follow-up ultrasound and then go from there. I just can't believe it's happening again, but I knew it could with my history. :-( I've read online that sometimes they catch a heartbeat a week later. I'm still holding out hope, but being realistic too. I've lost the other naturally, but will probably need a D&C with this one. Chat later and I'll be lerking to keep up on your good news.

Oh Anne! We're still keeping out fingers crossed for you!
If its any consolation they couldn't hear my baby's hb this week and I'm 12 weeks along.
Your little bean my just need some time to grow.
Please don't give up hope - I want to cry for you!
Wishing you lots of nausea!!!

Anne--I'm really sorry they didn't find the heartbeat. I'll be praying for you. (((hugs))). I hope you have good support in "real life" whatever is going on. Please keep us posted. I wish I had better words.

Maggie

Hi,
I am checking in in the middle of the night because now I have a bad bronchitis-y cough that is keeping me up for the past few nightsx( . I have to give up looking up things on the internet, because so far everything I have done to treat this will potentially cause birth defects! From the antibiotic to the cough medicine to the tea I drank to the face scrub I used to wash my face. I am super paranoid now! I really hope I start to feel better soon-at least my fever is gone (I just can't sleep).

Anne-You are in my thoughts and prayers.

-Jen

Anne - I'm still holding on to hope for you that it might be too early and they missed the hb. Did the fetal pole grow bigger at least? ((((HUGS)))) You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Maggie - I guess there's a bunch of us in the "advanced maternal age" group, lol! You know, I've been eating tons of fruits and salads, but I'm still constipated. My dr. said it's just part of pg and the iron in the prenatals. I drink fluids throughout the day also, but still no luck.

Kristan - Oooh, cable at the hospital. I go to a babymaking factory hospital also and it's about 20 miles from our house. The dr. induced me with my last pg because she was afraid I wouldn't make it since I was 4-5cm dilated at my appt.

Morris - I've been wanting to bake brownies for a week now, but I've been too lazy which is good because I know I'll end up eating the whole pan.

Jen - I don't think topical/localized things can really affect the baby from what my ob told me so I think your face scrub shouldn't be an issue. That's why you can get dental work done and all that while pg. Hope you start to feel better soon. I know you've been dealing with it for awhile now.

Kate - Did the midwife offer an u/s? Can you ask for one earlier? I would think they would at least do one earlier on to confirm a due date. My ob did an u/s when I was 12 weeks with dd because she couldn't pick up a hb with the doppler. I say ask, it wouldn't hurt and u/s are so much fun to watch!

As for me, I am having a really good day today. Yesterday I was feeling nauseaus, but today is much better. I still feel like I'm walking under a haze, but for the most part, it keeps getting better as the weeks go on. I'll be 11 weeks on Monday. I actually did shoulders and legs yesterday despite feeling yucky. I didn't do anything today since we did a Costco run. I can't believe how much we ended up spending. I would love to buy more natural, organic foods, but I can't even keep up with "regular" grocery prices. I do make it a point to buy certain things organic, but I can't even think about doing organic meats or even some produce because it's so expensive. Anyone have fun plans for the weekend?

Lisa
