PowerMax?

Hi! I just joined the Cathe forum and am really excited to give her workouts a try! I recently ordered PowerMax and am waiting for it to arrive. Any thoughts on this video? I am an advanced FIRMie, but am getting really bored with the FIRM. Is PowerMax a good video to start with? I would like to get some of the new Cathe videos, but I need to clean out my FIRM collection first....

This is a tough workout. In fact, I believe it was rated as "killer" on VideoFitness. When you start this workout, I suggest you use a 4" platform (no risers on the step) until you have the moves down. You will especially appreciate a low step during the third section in this workout as you will be huffin' and puffin' away.

I bought Step Max as my first Cathe after being bored with the FIRM. Step Max was too hard for me initially and I had to go to something lighter (Karen Voight's Energy Sprint) until my endurance was better. Then, I started back with Step Max and was pleased that I was able to do most of it.

However, I hope I'm not frightening you. You will succeed. All of her workouts have a "blast" as part of the last section of her step workouts. You will find in time that you will be able to do the entire thing on either a 6" or an 8" step.

Hope this helps and welcome to Cathe. You will love her teaching style and workouts.

PowerMax was my first Cathe tape, back in 1996 when I ordered her from Collage because I too was bored with The Firm. I started on 8" because I didn't know any better, so I just imitated what Cathe was doing. It is a tough workout, and it's the one I learned the choreography with. There are tougher ones out there now of hers, but this one is still worth doing occasionally.

I am now a devoted Cathe fan, and I still keep PowerMax for sentimental reasons.

Hi Brooke - I have just about every Cathe tape, EXCEPT PowerMax. And, I have read such WONDERFUL things about it that I'm going to purchase it now myself. I think you made a great choice. :)

Powermax is awesome and worth doing more than occasionally! It is tough and yes, the Imaxes are tougher, but who wants to blow their brains out every day?!!? If you are giving it your all, Powemax is plenty tough enough!

It was my first Cathe too, and I keep it and do it for more than sentimental reasons. I learned it on an 8" step and have always done it on 8". I've never done a workout on less, never saw the point. If you are craving more than the firm, Powermax will deliver and the music will "rock you"!!!

Hi Brooke,

Good to see you here. Funny, I just told Diana yesterday that I have been doing Cathe workouts for about a month now. I started with the Intensity Series. I love all the workouts on it.
I have since got someworkout off of FitTv and ordered Kick, Punch, Crunch/Legs and Glutes. I also preordered The Hardcore Series. I love every one of her workouts. They have really bumped up the intensity. I have no doubt you will quickly be addicted like the rest of us. ;-)

Hi Brooke! I have been doing Cathe for many years, have all of her workouts, and Power Max is still one of my favorite step workouts. Power Max may be challenging to start with for you, but since you're advanced you may not have much trouble at all! And even if it is, you wouldn't want it to be too easy from the get-go now would you??? :) :)

Hope you enjoy this as much as I do!

Jo

Powermax can be a bit overwhelming in terms of intensity. When I first did the workout, I used an 8" step. Silly me! I could hardly finish the 2nd step section! It was so intense. So my advice is to go low, maybe 4" or 6". Although Powermax is tough, it is so much fun. I have newer Cathe workouts, but I find that I always reach for this one. Another workout to consider is Step Fit, which is not as tough as Powermax but equally fun as well.

Oh my God, its 5:00 in the morning and I've been up an hour - couldn't sleep! So, I hope this makes sense. I was also a Firm user, and not that advanced of one (BSS2), and my first Cathe was Maximum Intensity Cardio. My advice is to just have fun! You've discovered Cathe and we're all so glad for you! As Cathe says, watch it all the way through before trying it, DON'T be hard on yourself the first time (you WILL learn the moves, and probably fairly quickly) and use low step. Interestingly enough, a month or so ago I ordered 12 Cathe vids at once, and Powermax was one of them - been slowly incorporating them, and haven't tried Powermax yet, maybe I'll try it Saturday and let you know what I thought! Time to try that sleep thing again...

This is a GREAT one to start with!! I hope you enjoy it!! Don't clean out your Firm collection just yet ... I'm an old Firmie too, and I kept most of the original ones - before the GoodTimes sell. I use them quite a bit. They compliment Cathe quite well, IMHO. Let us know how you like PowerMax, and welcome to the wonderful world of Cathe!!!!

Hi there Jessica,
Good to see you here!
Thanks to all who replied and thanks for making me feel so welcome! I am so excited to try these videos! I even got on ebay and got another one; Max Intensity Cardio...Sounds Scary!!! But I am up for it! My only problem is I don't have any step other than the Fanny Lifter and wacky Firm Box. Would you all suggest the Super Step or something different?

Jess, I need to tell Diane that I am slowly converting, lol! I just can't bring myself to tell her!! Maybe we can get her hooked, to!!

I will let you all know how I like PowerMax as soon as I try it out! Can't wait!

Thanks!
Brooke

Wow! Sorry for the multiple postings, My computer kept giving me an error! Looks like there was no error....

Hi Brooke!

As far as your question regarding the step, just do the tape without any step at first, on the floor. I would recommend not the Super Step but the Step Company / Bollinger club-sized step.

The Super Step is not as flexible with heights as the Step Co. step.

I hope you can find one easily.
