Portion Control Plates

My Mom preaches portion control and there was a young lady on GMA on ABC this morning who used Weight Watchers Portion Control diet so she would have to give anything up. This young person lost 262 lbs and plans to keep going.
I do not have the plates but I noticed the Swedish dining plates are ALOT smaller than my American Fiestaware which are more realistic to proportion to food.
Like you said, moderation is the key.

I don't know about the plates, but I do know I use smaller plates than the average 'american plate'. I just weigh my eats because of this video. It makes everything easier than guessing with a plate.

OH WOW!! Thanks for sharing that!!! Do you weigh everything? Is it accurate? Honestly, very interesting! I am not into eliminating certain foods (carbs, dairy, meats, desserts, ect.). I just like to eat everything in moderation. That would make it so much easier to lose stubborn pounds if you knew EXACTLY how many calories you were getting instead of guessing, using cups, spoons, ect. Which measuring unit do you have? Can you send me a link?

Thanks!

Natasha

There is a food pyramid out with the recommended serving sizes for each food type. On GMA, Dr. OZ says to read the back of the container.

Those are a neat idea though I've never tried it but I have my own way of controling my portions at home that seems to work at it too is based on my plate! I have 3 different sized plates in my cabinets...large ones which are traditionally dinner plates and then 2 sizes that go down in size from there. The smallest basically will fit only a regular size sandwich on it. I eat off the medium sized plate which basically fits a serving of each of three components I try to eat at every meal...my protein source, my carb and my veggie. It's helped me a lot!

I also weigh my food on a scale before putting it on my plate at home but when I can't do that, like when I am at my mom's house, I know when enough is enough on the food I am putting on my plate because once it's filled up I am done!

FitMommy,

What scale do you have? How many inches in diameter are the plates?

I won't ever eliminate foods from my diet. I need my meat/carbs/veg on my plate or else it does not feel like a proper meal (and perhaps a little dessert )

I have an inexpensive digital scale that I picked up in Target. It's made by a company named TAYLOR, the plates are 8.5 inches across and I eat dessert almost every night!:)
