Pop Tarts

Well thanks a lot Michelle & Debbie! It never occurred to me to put BUTTER on them!:9

Oh yes, that will have to be tried.

Oh, just you wait Ruth & Diane Sue! It's worth digging out IMax 2 to try them at least once OR twice! :9

A pop tart every so often is not going to hurt. There are some vitamins and minerals thrown in there and so if you enjoy it go ahead, just don't over do it. Don't live life like an esthetic. And a correction...there is no measureable trans fat in pop tarts. Some saturated fat, but most of the fat content is monounsaturated and polyunsaturated.

I would have to say it's the processing, preservatives and absence of anything natural. But...I really like the chocolate ones!

I got a little addicted to those little pastries-of-joy during our honeymoon. We had gone out West to visit the canyons (Grand, Bryce, Zion), so there was a lot of hiking involved. Pop Tarts and PB&J sandwiches were our snack foods of choice because of the easy of carrying them and high calories. Of course, when we got back I still was eating them and started to get a little fat. Now we never have them in the house. My daughter only likes them so-so and never asks for them. She'd rather have peanut butter toast.

Madonna,
I would drive you nuts too, I like to take off the sides and just eat the middle also! I figure the sides don't have any good stuff inside so what's the point? LOL!

I use to heat up the brown sugar cinnamon ones, break up in pieces and throw it over a bowl of Bryers Vanilla Ice Cream. Man that was good!! I still buy them here and there. I think they are fine if you eat them in moderation.

Aila:)

Pop Tarts are evil and I won't eat them. When I am tempted to eat bad stuff due to uncontrollable cravings, I just eat fruit which is sweet. I am just trying so hard to get a tone body that I will not comprise by eating pop tarts though I may eat a frie or two, but that is it. I have no personal trainer so I got to be my own... JMHO

Hi
I do look at those poptarts alittle longingly every so often but I haven't caved yet. (note to self-avoid supermarket junk food isle when I have pms) Also, my kids like alittle junk food on an occasional basis, so what I have to do is avoid buying any CHOCOLATE junk food or I'm dead in the water. (no resistance--the gravitational pull is just tooooo powerful for weak willed me) My kids do eat very healthy about 95% of the time (fruits, veggies, whole grains, good protein) but they are so active and slim that I have a hard time refusing to give them the occasional cookie/cinnamin roll etc. They love fresh strawberries and whip cream on pound cake, which I don't think is "bad". Now that my DD is on a very competitive level in swim though, I have to be very careful to give her the best quality calories, b/c it really does matter and she is trying to achieve certain goals. :) /karen

I love the strawberry frosted ones. Although I haven't eaten one in years. My husband and my son don't really like them so if I would buy them, I would end up eating the entire box.

Oh no! Now I want to go buy some pop tarts. I have never tried them with butter - that does sound good. And to eat them on a bowl of ice cream - ummmmmm. I am glad that my husband does the grocery shopping. He knows when I ask for something like this to not really get it.

If they said "Pop Tarts," which is a copyrighted name, it has to be THE Pop Tarts. Otherwise, they are refered to as "toaster pasteries."

There are lots of things that taste good: Pop Tarts, Ding Dongs, Ho-Hos, a spoonfull of white sugar, whatever, and I ate LOTS of them as a kid! Everybody makes there own choice whether they want to eat them or not. I choose not too, partly because it's easy to become used to overly-sweet, nutritionally devoid "foods"(I don't consider adding back "some" of the nutrients that have been removed during processing, which is what "enriched" means, very nutritious), and I was a sugar addict as a kid (and have the many, many fillings and crowns to show it)so have a somewhat dormant but ready-to-get-back-to-work sweet tooth.

I feel much better when I just completely avoid most processed foods (which usually are more chemicals and non-foods than food anyway--I don't count white sugar and white flour as foods). I do however, splurge on strawberry soy "ice cream" from time to time, and other health-food-store "treats." I've tried the health food store version of PopTarts, but there's just to much crust vs. filling for it to really appeal to me. I prefer a nice ripe mango anyday!

Call me an esthetic, it works for me!
