plyorobics?

Has anybody heared of this? I was on this web site and it sound like it would be a good workout. But I would like to know if someone else has it before I buy it. With all the videos I pre-odered I do not want to waste my money.

I just bought PlyoRobics Challenge

The PlyoRobics people were selling at a local fitness convention. They're got 3 different videos they're selling, along with this very cushy mat they want you to do the plyo stuff on.

I bought the video with Sherry Catlin. The toughest one is called PlyoRobic Sport (something like that?) with Carey Bond from the Targeted Sports Training Series. And there's a kickboxing styled one with Keli Roberts called PlyoRobics Kick, I think.

Haven't done Plyo Challenge yet, but I previewed it and I think I will enjoy it. Of course, they want you to buy the mat too ($50 at the convention; $80 normally).

She does a warm-up, then about 6 different plyo patterns or sprints and then a cooldown and stretch. From watching it, I'd judge it to be low advanced level or high intermediate level, but it's hard to tell without doing it. The patterns aren't too sophisticated, but they're fun. (Hop one leg, hop the other leg, 3 jacks and some scissors would be an example.) It's very high impact -- in case you couldn't guess from the title. I can't remember what the music was like. The set was the CIA set with a little bit of Cathe's IMax set creeping in on one panel.

The woman and her husband who were at the convention booth said they're going to come out with a more basic, "instructional-level" tape soon. But unless you're brand new to aerobics, I wouldn't wait around for that.

It kind of reminded me of an Energy Sprint level of tape, with more impact. The Plyo Sports one looked very tough -- lots of high side-to-side jumps.

I hope this helps. I can give you more info about the mat, if you'd like. I almost bought the thing. It was nice and cushy, about 4'by4'. I was thinking of using it for some of the Interval Max intervals. But $50 is a lot of money for an unplanned purchase, so I skipped.

Thanks!

Thanks that was a great help. I still do not know if I want to buy it or not. I really like high impact videos but I pre-odered 11 videos and they should come in soon ( i hope! ). I might just wait until I get tied of my new videos. The mat seems to be alot of money for being so small. But anyways thanks for you help!!!

one more question Daph

I sort of remember something like that featured at the New York ECA show.
Is the whole point of the mat just for impact or are there spots marked on it for your feet...sort of like a twister thing?
You have me intrigued now..especially with the Keli Roberts one

nancy:O)...who really doesn't need another piece of equipment either

I'm waiting for mine!

Daphne, Thanks so much for the info on the Plyorobics Challenge with Sherry! I'm waiting as patiently as I can for mine to arrive!! It should be here early this week cuz they said they sent it out last Wed. or Thursday. I really enjoy high impact aerobics so am looking forward to this one. I only wanted to buy one tape since I didn't know anything about them or how the quality was and it was hard to choose between the three of them!! I think if I really like this video I'll opt for the Plyorobics Sports one next! I would like to splurge on the special mat too but for now I will have to hold off cuz I have a ton of debt to pay off from my quadzillion video and fitness equipment purchases..hee hee

ABOUT PLYOMETRIC TAPES AND MAT

I have pre-ordered all three tapes as well as the mat. I'll post a mini-review once I received them if you like. I should be getting them very soon through my Canadian distributor...

Sincerely,

Montserrat Tallec

Description of the mat

You're right, Nancy. The "AerSquare" mat is about 4 by 4, with a smaller square drawn in the center of the mat. The inner square is maybe 14" by 14" (guesstimating.) Each of the corners of the square are numbered 1 through 4. (Duh! Did I wow you with my knowledge of geometry?! LOL.) In the PlyoChallenge workout, Sherry instructs you to go to the "sides" or to the back or the front of the square or use the corners. Nothing too complicated. Abbe (the VFer who was with me when I almost bought this thing) pointed out to me that you could probably adapt any large, thick exercise mat by simply drawing or painting a square in the center of it. You could even just do it on your floor and forget the mat and the square and the numbers -- bottom line is, they are simply basic foot patterns they're demonstrating. The next time I go to my local home fitness store, I'm going to check out the mats they've got in stock and see if they've got something within my budget.

The convention folks were trying to market the "AerSquare" for group fitness situations. I think they're trying to get men back into the classroom. Simple combinations, simple equipment, high-impact, sports oriented = GUYS!!! I think they've got something there, but I'm not sure what ...

Sorry, but this product number is F22740. Don't know if its the same thing or not.
This is the QVC listing:
Plyometrics is the rapid stretching and contracting of the muscles resulting in increased strength, power and overall fitness. "On Course" is a program developed to put plyometrics into exhilarating, high energy, mini routines with motivating dance music. Each "course" is a different five minute routine giving you a variety of short term goals and keeping you motivated to attain your goals quickly. The quickest way to tighter, sleeker thighs! Video runs approx. 46 min. Target pads measures 10-1/2"diam each. Comes w/eight target pads. USA.

I got this!

I decided to check it out (for only 19.95 S H, it sounded like a good bet). I haven't used it yet (I'm going through physical therapy for my knee, and my therapist hasn't oked aerobics yet---aargh!), but it looks interesting. The plyometrics are mostly hops from one pad to another, or from two to one then back again (like hopscotch), or squat jumps moving from two pads to the next two, etc. The great thing about QVC is that you can try it out for 30 days and, if you don't like it, send it back--even videos.

Great!!!

Sounds like it will be fun! Let us know when you try it. Sounds like something I would like to have. Please keep us update

I saw Plyorobics mentioned in my newest issue of Fitness magazine. Whoever got the tapes and used them....what do you think? I went to the http://www.plyorobics.com site just now. I wonder if you can do this workout on the stall mats we've been talking about. I see our friends at Collage Video don't offer these tapes.
