Plyo Floors?

I have unfinished hardwood floors under my old, ratty carpet in my old house. I'd planned to have all the hardwood refinished. I've read your responses about plyo boards and "energy return." Are hardwood floors alone good for plyo and is the energy return good? I'm betting hardwood is better than most floors but nowhere near as good as a plyo floor (?).

No, hardwood floors are just that “Hard”. They’re better than concrete, but not by much. You would have to add a subfloor like I mentioned above to turn your hardwood floor into an energy return joint friendly floor.

Check out "Bouncee Tiles" at www.rubbercal.com. They snap together with no tools needed. I bought enough to make a 10 X 10 exercise area. Awesome. Can change the size, move around, or pack up - within 10 minutes. Worth every penny. I plyo and jump around like a nutball and neither knees or back ever hurt. Can put it right over carpet, cement or wood. Move it whereever you like - whenever you like. Is heavy enough that it will not slide around on its own.

Same stuff at www.rbrubber.com (quote from their site below)

ArobitileTM
Arobitile is a great, cost effective choice for an anti-fatigue resilient floor. Each 12" x 12" tile has over 250 raised discs along with 3/4" thick resilient, "bounce back" air support. Arobitile has similar performance characteristics as a floating hardwood floor with a built in sub-floor. 35 lbs. of pressure is all that's needed to activate the sub-floor; making it very forgiving on ankles, joints and lumbars. This exclusive design easily places Arobitile above hardwood floors in resilience and far below in cost.

Plyholic Thanks
I emailed rubbercal to see if they still carried it because I could not actually find the tiles under their product line. But when I googled "bouncee tiles" it came back with the link I posted.

Are you using the Arobitiles?

I think the actual product called "arobotile" and the product called "bouncee tiles" are the same product - just that different companies label them differently. My "bouncee tiles" look identical (and have identical specifications) as the "arobotile." Before I ordered from rubbercal - they sent me free samples of a few different colors and that gave me a much better idea of their shape and consistency and heft. As I said earlier though - they are the ticket. I throw weights down on them and they are tough. I jump and plyo to Cathe several times a week. They mop up like a breeze. Basically indestructible and yet still pretty nice looking. I put them over my basement cement floor and I think they are as good or better than the wood floors in my gym's aerobic studio.

Hey, Kathryn...you had mentioned plyo boards in a different thread, but do you have a specific internet link? I tried googling for them several different ways without any success.

Thanks,

Here is the only one I can find anymore: http://www.power-systems.com/p-2345-aerobic-square.aspx

Power-Systems also has another one that's a bit cheaper, a bit bigger, but plastic and with far fewer of the rubber cubes on the back. I don't know what it's called, but I saw it in their catalog (and their on-line search is so term-specific, it's not much of a help).

Kathryn, that pretty much is the direct link. You have to click "product lines" on the left which will take you to a page where on the right under "athlectic facilities" you need to click on "arobitile". Even after doing so, the http is still rbrubber.com

Here is another option (bigger than power systems) that I mentioned in another thread:

At stagestep, they have an aerobic square(3 layers), 42" x42" on sale for $60, includes video. Seems like a good price compared to the power system one. Here is the link and info.

I just bought one of the aersquares from stagestep.com. I can't find any reviews for it on this website, so once I get it, I will let you know how it works for me. :) The bounceee tiles look great (and are cheap!), but I needed something that could easily be rolled up and stored. As an orthopaedic nurse, I thoroughly believe in protecting one's knees and back and consider good shoes and good flooring to be vital. :) Happy plyo'ing!

Hi everyone! I wanted to let you all know that I just ordered some larger mats (I believe they are 9 square feet each) from kieferfloors.com. I've been researching aerobic mats for a while now and finally decided on the pavigym mats. I'll let you know how they workout if anyone is interested. They are expensive (but so is everything else) but I'm tired of the shin splints and issues that go along with having the incorrect floor. So I splurged.

Anyway, here's the link if anyone is interested:

Oh yes, please let me know how you like the mats. I am leaning towards the bouncess tiles, but I would still be interested to know you results.
