Hi ladies,

I haven't posted as much as I have in the past. I started my master's and have been busy with that, the kids and life in general. :)

Anyway, the reason for my post is to remind all of you ladies to stay current with your annual exams. I've had a little scare this week. I went several weeks ago for my annual gyne exam. I was a bit overdue. I've never had any abnormal results in the past. Well, this time I did. :( I had to a have a colposcopy . I'm waiting on the results on that. However, just from that procedure I do know I'll have to have a cone biopsy. What a surprising week!!! I feel fine. I've been working out to my Cathe DVDs and running. So, you can imagine my surprise when this whirlwind started on Tuesday evening when I received a call from my doctor.

He said the common reason for getting abnormal pap results is because of an HPV virus. Although, mine was not the cause of this, he explained to me that a lot of woman have this and don't even know about it. HPV can cause cervical cancer. I've gotten a crash course in all of this yesterday at my appointment. I have never heard of any of this, so I wanted to pass it on to all of you fine ladies.

Please don't blow off your exams!!

Thanks, Dallas. I hope all goes well. I'm pretty good about keeping up with my exams, but can always use a reminder. Thanks!

I hope all goes well. I have to go in for a procedure, also, which cropped up since my yearly exam last year. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Aww, gosh girls...thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. That wasn't my intent, but I'll take them. ;-)

Kassia ~ I guess I need to turn the TV on more. Never heard of any of this. Actually, the doctor said he wished it was because of HPV. Had me scratching my head on that one. He made me curious so when I got home I googled it. Scary stuff. That's why I wanted to post this - to get more awareness.

Elaineee ~ I'll keep you in my prayers as well. ((((HUGS))))

Thank you! Now go make your appointment! :)

I learned this the very hard way when I was 24. I had 2 abnormal paps in a row, then learned that I had HPV and had one step below cervical cancer. Talk about frightened! And then learning that HPV is sexually transmitted - I was very naive and had only had a couple of partners, so I couldn't figure out how this could happen to me, when a lot of my friends, who "slept around" never had any problems! I had cryotherapy and have had normal paps every since. I used to go every 6 months, but my doctor said that now I can just go annually. I'm glad that HPV is getting the attention it deserves now! I was a scared young girl who was sure she was going to die from cervical cancer! People need to know how serious it is, get the vaccine, don't sleep around and use protection!

I hope everything turns out ok for you!!:)

Thanks Edie! How scary for you!

Yes, the doctor said based on my results that I am one step away from cervical cancer. The actually name that he used to describe what I have is carcinoma in situ of the cervix. :-( It sounds treatable, but early detection is key here. He said my pap couldn't have come at a better time.

I swear my family has the worse genes. x(

Glad everything is ok for you now.:)

My daughter is 20 yrs old... just had her first child. She had her 6wk checkup and came up with this also, however she is two steps below cancer. Very scary indeed!!

Hi Brenda,

If you want to e-mail me instead, could I ask what she had/has to have done? I go for the cold-knife cone biopsy, but I have to wait ten days. Also, the doctor wants to get the first set of biopsy reports back.

Prayers for your dd too. (((HUGS)))

Dallas:

Same thing happened to me about 8 years ago. Had the LEEP (I think that's what it is called) and was fine. Then it recurred again two years later and had to have the same procedure.

I have been fine ever since but you are correct, all women need to know about this! I educated all of my girfriends after my experience and am so glad the tv campaign is all over the place!

I am sending positive energy your way and wish you good luck!!! Keep us posted on how everything goes!

Dallas, they did the colposcopy Thursday and just waiting for the results. I'm not exactly sure what that is supposed to entail but they saw that it was abnormal as the pap indicated and took a scrape. If it is the same as her pap then they will just see her again in 6 months. If it has changed, then DD said they would remove it but I'm not sure by what means. What is the cone biopsy that you mentioned? I know absolutely nothing about this so any information offered would be greatly appreciated!
Brenda

Thanks tweedlebug, Tammy and Marcy!

Brenda,

I **think** the cone procedure is a bit more extensive than the Leep. I'll actually be put under. :( I think it removes more tissue than a Leep. I'm not sure exactly. My head is still spinning from all of this.

(((HUGS))) and prayers for your dd.

Keep us posted, ok?
