***Please read...very important***

Thanks Brenda.

Also, came back to say that I'm glad to see almost 500 views! I hope everyone has made their annual appointment. I also hope you spread the news to family and friends to make their appointment as well.

Those of you who "know" me could have predicted I'd reply to this thread. :)

I want to mention that annual pap smears there are some women who may no longer need annual paps, BUT this is a topic you should discuss with your women's health care provider.
ACOG Guidelines:
http://www.acog.org/from_home/publications/press_releases/nr05-04-04-1.cfm

ACS guidelines:
http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/c...ncer_Detection_Guidelines_36.asp?sitearea=PED

Please remember that all women need annual pelvic exams.

If you or someone you know has no access to health care, there are programs available for screenings. In addition to family planning programs, there are programs funded by the cdc:
http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/cancercontacts/nbccedp/contacts.asp

For those of you who may be interested in follow-up of abnormal paps:

Please, please, please be sure you are up-to-date on your well woman screenings!!!!!!

Take care!

Dallas,

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I'm glad you went when you did.

I've never heard of this so thanks for sharing the information with all of us.

Elaineee - you're also in my prayers.

Hope you'll both keep us posted.

Suz

There's always more room for reminders on getting your annual exam! I went faithfully every year, and my abnormal pap was written off as an infection. A year later I had very fast -growing cervical cancer. Thankfully, cervical cancer is quite treatable and I had a hysterectomy to remove it. I can't have anymore children but I'm alive and well and have 2 beautiful children to love.

My second daughter was a "surprise" and if she hadn't have come so early (my kids are 18 mos apart), we wouldn't have had her at all. God works in mysterious ways!

Best wishes to you, Dallas. It's probably crazy and overwhelming, but I'm sure everything will go smoothly!

Yes, definately important to remember those exams as much as we all look forward to them:)...I wish you well...

I don't mean to hijack this post but I have a question concerning the samething...I had the same thing happen, I mean with the biopsy and all. I had an abnormal pap for years about 6 year in a row, they said the same thing, about the HPV virus then the last couple of years, for no apparent reason they said it was negative,(normal)... They didn't have any explanation. They were as surprised as I was. Is it possible for this virus to just disappear???

Hi Carrie,

That's a good question. Maybe Autumn can answer that. She seems to be our "expert" here. See, that's what got me puzzled is that I don't actually have the HPV. My doctor said that he's never seen a pap lab like mine in the 15 years he's been doing this :( That's not very reassuring. This has been the longest three days, and I still have two to go. :(

Did you have to go for the cone biopsy? I'm nervous about that one. He says that it can cause an incompetent cervix. Although, we are probably done having children...there's always that chance.

Maybe Autumn can chime in here. She's been very helpful in our e-mail communications.

Thanks Suz!

Hokypoky ~ My doctor mentioned a hysterectomy, but we have to take one step at a time. You're right God works in mysterious ways. Glad everything worked out for you. :)

In most HPV cases, the virus clears on its own. I learned that from the HPV/cervical cancer ad campaign.

I also went from normal to invasive cancer in one year. Three years and a hysterectomy later, I'm doing well. I was lucky enough to have one child before it happened and I am thankful to be able to watch him grow up.:)

It is wonderful you are well!!

Ladies, please remember that a pap smear is a screening test and not diagnostic. Also, pap smears are not 100% but they are an excellent screening tool. Know your risk factors.

Take care!
