Please help with DVD audio...

Skyeblu

Hi Cathe, (or anyone else who has this answer can shoot me an email or start this in the open discussion/dvd questions forum). I had this question in the open forum and got a few great responses but have yet to figure out how to do this so I thought I would come straight to the source. I have a few DVDs I like to take to the gym on my portable dvd player during hours when the gym is dead and no one is around, like bootcamp (just got a few weeks ago) which I like to do on a wood floor. Is there any way I can extract the audio from the dvd onto my computer (MAC) and then onto my iPod so I can hear you but not have to carry the player with me. Now that I have become familiar with your workout I can do it by sound alone. I love, love, love bootcamp and would love to do it 3 times a week and I can really get into it at the gym, I don't have the same space, floors, etc... here at home. Everytime I jump up I hit the ceiling fan, LOL

Thanks!!!!
Skye

Sorry...trying to bump this up, I've been online searching every possible way to do this for 4 hours and I am frustrated.

There is actually more than one way to do this, but I don't know if you have the right software. I'm pretty sure you can do it on iLife '05 and there is also a program called DVD Backup. My husband does it on occasion and I can ask him exactly what you do, however it might be a few days before he has time to detail an explanation.

Thanks amy_b, I tried Wiretap but it didn't work on the 30 day trial version, I guess I have to purchase it which I am not sure I want to do unless I am absolutely sure I can pull the audio off. I will check out the other links you gave me. If you do get more detail I would appreciate any more info.
Thanks again!!!!

Great idea, skyeblu -- creative use of an iPod!

I've used the free version of Wiretap & I like it a lot. Now I see it's a pay-only software. If you're going to pay, I'd suggest AudioHijack instead.

After AudioHijack "rips" the sound from the DVD, you can program it to automatically convert to mp3 or AAC via iTunes. There are ways to make it bookmarkable, too (but pretty geeky), if you want to do that on your iPod.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I am still trying ot get it to work. I am researching some of those programs before I purchase, until then I am still bringing my DVD player to the gym, the weird stares are now turning into "wow what a cool idea", LOL. Who knew?
