I can not lose some weight I have managed to acquire over the past year. 6-9 pounds to be exact. I have done the math but the weight is not budging. I eat pretty clean.

I had my metabolism tested I burn 1250 cal doing nothing. I sit all day at a desk so I add 375 to that = 1625/day x 7 days= 11375 per week.

So, I add my calories up for the week then for example last week I consumed 10090 cal therefore I had a deficit of 1285cal. Then I add my workout calories to that deficit = 3085 was the total cal I was lacking therefore I should have lost 1/2 pound.

Does this make sense? If so, why am I not losing when I clearly take in less calories than I consume?

Please help, I am so frustrated.

Well I doubt you are burning exactly 1250 cals per day every day. It has to fluctuate some I imagine. And your workout cals fluctuate as well. And it could be wildly innaccurate depending on how you are measuring it.
Getting beyond all that I just said, I'd forget scale weight and just gauge how your clothes fit and how you look. Scale weight is skewed if you are gaining muscle.

Without getting too personal and asking your age...you will lose muscle and gain fat as you get older. Believe me I am struggling with this phenomena as we speak! If you are eating balanced meals and minimal sweets, eating proper meal proportion's, then you should be able to maintain a healthy weight with regular exercise. Now, what I have found works for me is I need more weight training and 'less' cardio as I am moving into the middle ages. That doesn't mean I slack off on cardio, I'm just not doing cardio 5-6 days a week like I used to years ago. Unless you are a marathoner then throw my suggestion out the window!

But my point is, you are sedentary most of the day sitting at a desk so your muscles are not being used/worked. Try going for a walk on your lunch break if you have the time. Go for a vigorous walk after work. Every workout doesn't have to be an intense Cathe step video. Walking is very good for you both physically and mentally. And don't forget Yoga. :)

Metabolisms seem to be tricky things.

If I worked out and didn't eat "enough", I didn't lose weight. At times, if I ate too little...I lost more weight by NOT working out and having a calorie deficit. It is possible the calcs are off...how did they test your metabolism? Or did you use the usual math formulas? I have heard it can vary WIDELY.

I am reading "Lean Bodies" that I got out of the library. It is good reading. You might make sure you are eating 5x a day rather than 3, not getting hungry, and make sure your proteins are lean and get one with each meal...plus make sure your carbs are complex (oatmeal not cereal...etc).

I did the blow machine thingie.

I wonder if I should try the more weights and less cardio approach. I hit every body part once and do cardio 5 times a week.

Are you using something other than scale weight to gauge your progress? I am following BFL, am back on track now after about a 4-6 month layoff. I'm in week 9 I think. I'm only down a total of 2.5 lbs :( BUUTTTTT...I am down 2" from hips to waist, I'm down one pants size and everything fits better.

HI! I feel your frustration--I'm right there with you. But I have had success where I've never had it before with calorie staggering. I picked up the idea on this forum. You might want to do a search. There was a web-site that had recommendations for the mathmatical calculations and how to go about it. To date, I have lost 12 lbs (in 4 weeks). And I've NEVER been able to get this weight off--no matter how or what I tried!!! And believe me, I've tried just about everything that wasn't pure quackery.

Thanks to everyone who passed the idea along--I am so grateful! Every body is different, but this is working for me.

Good Luck!
