Hello:
I, too, like the advanced workouts and wouldn't like them watered down. I have a lot of Cathe's workout DVD's and haven't noticed a person in the back doing a modified version. Once in a while Cathe will say something like "if you are too tired to jump, take the jump out." or "If your arms are tired, keep them low." Of the DVD's that I've seen the first imax she shows a modified version of the blast moves before she does the final move. I liked that because once you get to know the move, you can do the final move right away and don't have to do the modified version.
I also like the step aerobics DVD's that are around a 7.5 level of difficulty. Sometimes I don't want a killer workout-like Imax2. Variety is always nice.
I have seen DVD's where they have one or two of the exercisers doing a modified version. I personally don't find it distracting if I'm doing the unmodified version. I do find it hard to follow the modified person because they are in the back usually and the instructor is doing the full version. I think it would be o.k. if Cathe did have one person doing a modified version, but I like it better when everybody is doing the full unmodified routine. It does encourage you to work harder and helps you get a better workout.
I have always leaned to low impact until I found the Cathe DVD's. Now I like the higher impact ones better because they get your heart rate up better. I can tell you from a person that would always try to modify high impact into low impact, that it is easier to make a routine low impact or easier than it is to change a low impact into a high impact and an easier into harder. So, I would rather see higher impact and a harder routine.
The people who have suggested a training DVD is totally right. I've been on this suggestion site before and suggested that. Another step instructor that I've seen but haven't done (I think her name is Cristie Taylor-her web site is tayloredfitness I think) has a section on some of her step routines called moved master (or something like that). In this part she teaches some moves that she does in the routine. She does it really slowly. She also does it with her back to the camera so she is facing the same way as you do and using the same leg. I think Cathe should make a step training DVD for beginners. That way people would learn what a flying angel is, a V step is, etc. Cathe is so excellent at her cuing that I think it is pretty easy to follow her cuing if you know what the step moves are that she is calling out.
So Cathe, please keep up the advanced exercise DVD's and a step training DVD would be nice.
Thank you,
Sherri
