Please continue to consider the advanced level exercise...

Hello:

I, too, like the advanced workouts and wouldn't like them watered down. I have a lot of Cathe's workout DVD's and haven't noticed a person in the back doing a modified version. Once in a while Cathe will say something like "if you are too tired to jump, take the jump out." or "If your arms are tired, keep them low." Of the DVD's that I've seen the first imax she shows a modified version of the blast moves before she does the final move. I liked that because once you get to know the move, you can do the final move right away and don't have to do the modified version.

I also like the step aerobics DVD's that are around a 7.5 level of difficulty. Sometimes I don't want a killer workout-like Imax2. Variety is always nice.

I have seen DVD's where they have one or two of the exercisers doing a modified version. I personally don't find it distracting if I'm doing the unmodified version. I do find it hard to follow the modified person because they are in the back usually and the instructor is doing the full version. I think it would be o.k. if Cathe did have one person doing a modified version, but I like it better when everybody is doing the full unmodified routine. It does encourage you to work harder and helps you get a better workout.

I have always leaned to low impact until I found the Cathe DVD's. Now I like the higher impact ones better because they get your heart rate up better. I can tell you from a person that would always try to modify high impact into low impact, that it is easier to make a routine low impact or easier than it is to change a low impact into a high impact and an easier into harder. So, I would rather see higher impact and a harder routine.

The people who have suggested a training DVD is totally right. I've been on this suggestion site before and suggested that. Another step instructor that I've seen but haven't done (I think her name is Cristie Taylor-her web site is tayloredfitness I think) has a section on some of her step routines called moved master (or something like that). In this part she teaches some moves that she does in the routine. She does it really slowly. She also does it with her back to the camera so she is facing the same way as you do and using the same leg. I think Cathe should make a step training DVD for beginners. That way people would learn what a flying angel is, a V step is, etc. Cathe is so excellent at her cuing that I think it is pretty easy to follow her cuing if you know what the step moves are that she is calling out.

So Cathe, please keep up the advanced exercise DVD's and a step training DVD would be nice.

Thank you,
Sherri

I agree...there are already tons of beginner/intermediate workouts out there. I turn to Cathe for the advanced workouts. I don't find the choreography that difficult, though, at all. The intensity can kill ya, though! But I don't think they are near as complicated as workouts from Patrick Goudeau, etc. I have several of his tapes but I rarely turn to them because the learning curve is HUGE!!! Way too many turns, too. Your intensity suffers when the focus is on complex choregraphy. But I think Cathe is about perfect...she could even go a touch more complex, in my opinion! I'm looking forward to the new moves on her 4 day split which I should get any day now! :)

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new, fresh, creative, more complex choreography of LIS and HIS. I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see more of this in future workouts!

I have to agree with Jordan on this. The reason I turned to Cathe is becasue all of the other workout videos were not challenging enough. My Cathe videos have always been "a step ahead" of me. There is always a challenge in them whether it be to jump higher or squat deeper. I love the Imax videos and the Hard Core series.

I was a beginner at one time too. I started out with the Firm and moved on to Cathe. I couldn't even finish one workout! My first video was Interval Max - boy what a way to start! But I did the workout and kept at it and after a few months I was able to finish the whole thing - including all those Plyo Jacks. After a few other Cathe purchases I got IMAX 3 - can I do just one more plie jack/squat? YIKES!!! I bought several of the Hard Core series too. The point is that all of these videos elevated my fitness to another level. I broke through a plateau - finally!!! I look to Cathe for that challenge. Please continue making challenging videos for the advanced user.

I think one possible solution is to create a video selection for beginners and one for advanced users would be great (a lot of work for Cathe though phew!)

PS - I can't wait until the Workout Blender comes out!!! Then I can just make my own!!! The beginners can also use it to modify workouts too!!

>Hi,

Hello,

I would recommend Low Max and the new 4 Day Split. Low Max is low impact with low impact cardio blasts - it is not easy either!!! You can always squat a little deeper and squeeze the muscles a little harder too. I found the 4 Day Split cardio portions to be a nice supplement to my other cardio workouts. I like to mix up the sections. For a great challenge - do the just the cardio portions of the older Boot Camp after the 4 Day Split Boot Camp - nice!!! Additionally, on days I don;t feel like jumping around, I modify. In fact, you can modify all of the workouts.

Also, regarding heavy weights - I think that can be very subjective. What is heavy for one may not be heavy for another. You do not have to use the same amount of weight as Cathe. She is there for a guide. I am lifting 5 - 10 lbs lighter than Cathe on some exercises and 10 - 20 lbs heavier than she uses during other exercises. It just depends on how I feel that day, how many reps, the speed of the reps and what exercise we are doing.

If I find a move I don't like or is painful for me - I modify or skip it. There is no failure in that - it is better than getting injured. When they come with the Workout Blender - you will be able to pick and choose and create your own workouts - I think you will like that even more and you can customize what works best for you.

Cathe certainly does an awesome job of keeping us challenged. I totally agree that advanced workouts are the way to go. I don't like extensive breakdown before doing them. It is frustrating at first to get the moves down, but that's why there are chapters on the DVD...just keep replaying it until you get it. That's what I did with HIS and now I wouldn't be enjoying it nearly as much if it wasn't set up exactly the way it is!

As far as modified moves in the background....that wouldn't bother me. If the camera was always on that person and not Cathe, then it might be different. But as long as the camera shows Cathe with the modifier in the background I think that would be fine. The exerciser could then focus on whichever move they prefer. Personally, with the new DVD's, I don't think the camera is on Cathe as much as it should be. I don't mind the camera on the background exercisers as long as the moves are not new, but with new moves, the camera needs to be "straight on" Cathe.

I just hope Cathe keeps doing what she does best....advanced DVD's!!

RE: Please continue to consider the advanced level exer...

I want advanced workouts also. I'll modify "down" when I need to. It's much harder to modify "up".

I don't care for background modifiers either, however, Amy Bento did include a short tutorial section that I went through before attempting her new step workout. That might be an option for more complex moves or to show low impact options if it didn't take up too much time or space on the dvd. It was not absolutely essential for me, but it was nice.

Hi Maggie!! So nice to see your handle!!! I just found Amy Bento and think she'll quickly become a favorite.

Sorry for the side track.

Agree, Cathe to continue to cater to advanced exerciser.

Disagree, I don't mind modifiers. ;)
