PLEASE Check your breasts...

because yesterday this 37 year old woman was trying on hairpieces to cover up the evidence of her impending chemo treatments to shrink her Stage III locally advanced high risk breast cancer.

After two months of pre-adjuvant chemo I will undergo a mastectomy and removal of two sets of lymph nodes. After that I will have six weeks worth of radiation, and possibly more chemo.

Talk about a paradigm shift.

Please, I'm not looking for attention, but no woman this young should ever have to go through this. I've already gone through (and stopped) blaming myself for this, but if you are one of those women with lumpy fibrous breasts it is IMPERATIVE that you do your BSEs and GET YOUR MAMMOGRAMS.

Now, go do it.

I don't care if you're at work...just go in a bathroom stall...;)

Why are you still here? Go go get...

We are the same age :( I am so lacks in keeping up with my BSEs. Basically I am scared at what I might find. You said you are not looking for attention so I will spare you the boo-hooings and "isn't it awfuls." Instead I will tell you that my good thoughts are flowing your way, and that right now, before my shower, I will do a self-exam.

Thanks for the impact of your post. I heard ya.

Oh, I'm so sorry for all you're going through. I appreciate your willingness to share so that we all may benefit from your experience. I just received a reminder in the mail yesterday that it's time for my annual mammogram--I will call today to schedule it.

Please know that you are in my prayers and I hope all goes well for you. Keep us posted.

Michele

Hugs to you, and good luck with your surgery. I have a good friend who was diagnosed at 30 years old. She had no family history, exercised, had a baby before 30, breast fed for a year, in other words had none of the risk factors. I do my SBE every month. Thanks for the reminder.

Oh, I'm sooooo sorry. My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer in January of 2003. In March that year she had a radical double mastectomy and they discovered some growth in her lymph nodes on the left hand side. They removed everything they could, and she underwent six months of chemo and five weeks of radiation.

At her last doctor's appointment, she was told that she can now say she HAD breast cancer.

What you're going through is so unbelievably hard, but my thoughts and well wishes are with you.

And I'm now meticulous about doing breast self-exams every month, and I've been having mammograms for years because of the nature of my breast tissue.

Thanks for sharing with us, and for the kick in the butt.

Hugs & Prayers being sent your way - good luck on your surgery. Thank you for the reminder. One of my closest friends was diagnosed at 31 so she is always reminding me to do the exams.

giving you so so many hugs and prayers!

I just talked to my midwife last month about the importance of BSE, and thank you so much for thinking of other people and getting the word out even tough what you must be going through is hard. Few people think of helping others when they are going through struggles. I will keep you in my prayers, even though I know that you are a very strong person.

I had been putting a mammogram off for so long. I finally had my first one done this month. Thank you for thinking of others.

You are in my prayers for a speedy recovery.

Elaine

Oh goodness, I'd better get that done!!!

On a positive note, my mom had a masectomy 34 years ago and she's doing great so I'm sending

(((POSITIVE VIBES))) (((POSITIVE VIBES))) (((POSITIVE VIBES)))

your way. Please keep up posted.

I routinely have mine and just had one in June - I also have the lumpy fibrous breasts. I am so sorry you are going through this...no one should have to deal with this.

Jo

Just scheduled a mammogram today actually. I hate them, and find them barbaric, but the alternative is worse. My best to you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to encourage us to do our BSE and get our mammograms. It's a shame but it's often tragedy that reminds of us these things.

I wish you the best with your journey

Peace & Love
Catherine

Good message ladies. Just do it. I had a bilateral masectomy the day after I turned 37, along with an axillary node dissection (30 lymph nodes removed). It doesn't matter if you have lumpy fibrous breasts, large droopy ones, or small and perky, family history or no family history. All that does matter is that you GET THAT MAMMOGRAM!!!!!

Blessings,
Denise

Thanks for the reminder. Hugs, prayers, and good thoughts coming your way.

You are a wonderful person, your strength and caring about others shines through in your message

My thoughts are with you. I check almost daily, just so I can become familar on a day to day basis on how my breast tissue feels.

Keep up the positive attitude because that is a big part of the battle. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

You are so kind and thoughtful for posting here. Thank you for the timely reminder. Attitude has a lot to do with how we battle these attacks on our bodies. Your attitude will serve you well I think. This is certainly not about me but cancer has been running rampant in my family for many years and I just wanted to say that my thoughts are with you. Thank you again for this post.
