Before ordering can anyone tell me if these work on dumbbells that have rubber coating on the ends? TIA! On the websites I've look at it doesnt specify.
Traci,
I recently bought the PlateMates and have only used them on solid metal dumbbells. I do have one set of weights with rubber coating on the ends, though, so I just tried it out. The PlateMate *does* stick to it but at an odd angle. I'm not sure how secure it would be and wouldn't feel safe using it this way.
Cathy- Thanks for such a quick response & for "testing".... I guess if theres a possiblity of one coming loose at all its better not to do it. Ho Hum.....15# to 20# jump is just so not doable for me. Will have to continue to think on this one.
Thanks again!
What I have done for this is pick up the 15 along with a 2 0r 3 lb dumbbell at the same time, (they are sort of at 90 degree angles with each other) or I have 1.5 pound wrist weights that I put on and then use the 15#
Here's a little tip that I learned entirely by accident. Place the platemates INSIDE the dumbell instead of on the outside. It's much more secure.
It just so happened I was using them on the end of a dumbell at the gym one day, knocked it against a rack, & it flipped over to the inside. Definitely one of those DUH moments!

??That might work with some dumbells in gyms (with the thinner, flatter, plate ends) but it wouldn't work with regular hex dumbbells that I can see.
No, it wouldn't, especially given the size. I use them on dumbells that are 25+ lbs & they work great. When it comes to lighter weights my gym has all the dumbells in 2.5 lb increments so platemates aren't needed.
