A plane just crashed into the Hudson river. My prayers go out to all involved. It appears they have been able to rescue some.

I just heard that everyone got out o.k. They're saying the pilot did a very good job with laying the plane down. Thank goodness.

I just heard the same thing from my boss, who is sitting at LaGuardia right now waiting for her delayed flight to take off. She's sitting in the Continental lounge and their staff is keeping them all updated.

Thank heavens everyone is okay!

What scares me is that it was birds....birds!!....that took that plane down.

All the truly amazing technology we have and a flock of birds takes down a plane.
Humbling, well to me anyways. :)

The pilot deserves so much credit for being able to land the plane as well as he did. He saved a lot of lives today. God bless him.

Hearing things like this really shakes you up. Especially those of us who live soo close to the area. I think most of us are still shaken up by 9/11. Thank god everyone survived.

I was just watching the news podcast from last night on this story. It's just so fantastic and is nice to have a bit of good news for a change. I hope the pilot Chesley Sullenberger is given an award for heroics. The flight crew, too...from what I've heard, they did a great job of remaining calm and sticking to their training.

I'm also impressed with the men on the flight for sticking to the Women and Children first philosophy. While I don't fully believe it's necessary for women to get off before men, definitely children need to. Women with children, yes. Whatever - if I was a childless woman on that flight, I'd be very grateful to the man who made sure I got to safety first.

I agree. I think the pilot and the rest of the crew should be honored for their heroics. I heard that the pilot walked up and down the aisle twice to make sure that they didn't leave anyone behind. You know that water had to be freezing. I can't even imagine how cold that must have felt.

I agree as well.

He, the pilot and the crew did an excellent job.

(One weird thing about this: they call it a 'bird strike,' as if the birds hit the plane--rather than the engines sucking in the birds and griding them up, which I guess doesn't sound so nice for TV!)

That pilot is certainly a hero!! Absolutely amazing that not only did he manage to avoid hitting the Bronx, or any other part of NY, he managed to put a plane down safely in a water landing (extremely, extremely hard to do), and then walked the plane twice to make sure everyone was out. I'm so impressed with him! I want him to pilot the next plane I fly!!!
