Pizza! Let's debate!

:p Okay, let's have a REAL discussion about IMPORTANT things that matter to each and everyone us ---PIZZA. Don't hold back about the issues!

thick crust vs. thin?
NY style vs Chicago deep dish?
turkey pepperoni -is it a crime or salvation?
broccoli - does it belong on pizza? ever?
What else is important to YOU?

My DH started making homemade dough for pizza, which of course, is entertainment in and of itself. So, let's get ready to rumble about one of my favorite food groups...:eek:
 
Thin, NY-style. Preferably a plain cheese version, with some char on the bottom of the crust; that's all you need if the crust, sauce, and cheese are done perfectly. Thankfully, DH is on a mission to create that perfect pie, and he's doing a damn good job. (no wonder I can't lose those last five pounds!:p)
 
OMG! It's so funny you posted this b/c I was thinking of something similar. I am a total pizza snob (ask Jer-Bear or anyone else from the July RT :p). I do not like toppings on my pizza, as I am a pizza purist as well.

I prefer Jersey pizza. ;) I like a thin base w/a chewy crust, some bubbles, lotsa cheese.

Broccoli (or any other veggie) should never be on a pizza. Turkey pepperoni could be a salvation, but only if eaten sans pizza. White pizza is most definitely a crime. If you must put toppings on your pizza, they should be limited to no more than two.

I like Chicago pizza, but I don't consider it real pizza. :cool:
 
My Mom makes the BEST homemade pizza--her crust is phenomenal. :D

I, personally, like a big, fat thick crust for my pizza and I want it covered in lots of ooey, gooey cheese and as many veggies as you can pile on. (I just can't do meat on pizza--I don't know why:eek:)

And I'm really weird because I just can NOT eat pizza without dipping it in ranch or blue cheese salad dressing. Just another way to make something that's already unhealthy even more so. ;)

Man, I LOOOOOVE pizza!!!!!!!!!

Oh Allison, have you ever tried Papa John's dipping sauce? While I do consider pizza chains a crime against humanity, PJ's dipping sauce is to die for!
 
just had pizza the other night. i got a thin crust margherita pizza. went well with a nice romaine lettuce,cherry tomatoe, and broccoli slaw mix salad. YUM! i do love white pizza with spinach though. no "pizzeria" in this area make anything like this. i do my NJ and the food.

although dh came out from his other job last night with a pepperoni,hot pepper,jalepeno pepper pizza. it looks so tempting!! but must run away more b/c of the pepperoni.

being i see you are also from NJ i totally get this. i tell everybody here the best about my home state is the food. not many chain restaurants there but plenty of diners, mom and pop restaurants, and actually bakeries. none of this frozen dough crap an actual person coming in at 4-5am(i use to go in at 3 myself) to roll,knead and flour for a local bagel shop. we even did our own donuts and kasier rolls! mmmm "hard roll" with butter and WaWa coffee!

I'm originally from the Chicago area so I LOVE Chicago deep dish. I like lots of cheese, sauce and crust. I don't like toppings on my deep dish pizza. The first thing I do when I get to Chicago is have pizza!

I don't mind thin crust either but if I had a choice I'd take Chicago style.

I LOVE garlic pizza!! May not love me afterwards though. :rolleyes:
 
I'm living in the Chicago area and my DH was born and raised here. I have to admit my first Chicago pizza was an experience. One slice of stuffed pizza could feed a classroom of preschoolers there is so much cheese and stuff.

I pretty much love it all ways but most of the time it gives me a stomach ache.

This summer we started making grilled pizza and that is probably my favorite style. We buy pre-made dough. When you stretch it by hand, you get thick and thin and bubbly spots so it's a great mix. Plus you get that grilled flavor. For toppings I like olive oil, goat cheese, some parmesan, some mozzarella, pesto, tomatoes, and spinach.

What else is important to YOU? In the south, we drink tea (sweet and iced, but I drink mine unsweetend, a sin within in itself) with everything and I mean everything, even in the morning. Anyway, when a New York Style Pizza restaurant opened many years ago, they didn't have tea as a beverage. Just Coke (we call everything soda, pop or whatever Coke even it is Pepsi), finally they got a hint. One of my college friends thought sutherner's were crazy because we didn't have Coke with our pizza. So I wrote all this to say, good sweet tea is important to drink with pizza.

Now the best pizza places I have been are in this order!
Asheville (NC) Pizza and Brewery.
Winston-Salem (NC) Foothills Restaurant.
Columbia (SC) Mellow Mushroom.
" " The Village Idiot
Irmo " Al-Emir
 
After reading these posts my mouth is watering!!!!

Love 2 kinds: deep dish with veggies and meat - no fish or fruit.
thin crust white with extra garlic


I think I'm going to have pizza for dinner!!

OMG Kassia that is so true--I lived in VA for 7 years & I swear I didn't have a decent pizza the entire time! One of the primary reasons I HAD to come back to NJ was for the pizza! LOL! And yes, the diners, the bakeries, I swear, Jersey is culinary heaven. :)

Where are you in NJ? Have you ever been to the King of Pizza in Cherry Hill? They make the most fantabulous pizza ever!
