Pikes on Stability Ball

Can you guys do the pikes on the stab ball on kpc and pyr ub? I am getting there but I am definitely not there yet. It amazes me everytime i see them do it. A few of them actually go on their tippy toes too. Something to work towards I guess. I feel that in my legs too. How about you guys?

i can do them in kpc and core max. don't have pub so can't say i can do them LOL. it took me a long time to do them even sometimes i have to really use my upper body to hold me while getting my bum up there. i was excited when i was able to do one that i just kept going until i could keep up with cathe.

They are tough! The 'final product' is definitely something to work up to. ANd they require not just core strength, but shoulder girdle stability, it seems to me. So if you have problems with 'on-the-toes' push-ups, that may carry over into the pikes.

The first time I could do an actual pike was after I did several weeks of P90X. There are no pikes in that rotation, but LOTS of core work, so I think it was definitely working the core (and maybe developing some shoulder mobility) that helped.

Keep on trying! Even attempting the move is benefitting you. As long as you're doing the most challenging version for YOU at this moment, you're doing it right!

Well, I can barely do an "on the toe" push up, but I can do pikes. It's half balance and half core strength in my opinion. Once my core was strong enough to lift me and I was balanced enough to stay fairly steady, I was able to do one. It takes practice. Keep trying - it'll come...

Now I just ordered a new stability ball as mine has this rather irritating tendency to have the little plug shoot across the room when I'm in the middle of serious work. I did a pike once on a ball at the gym and about went right on over. So, I'll let you know how they go when I get the new ball.

What helped me learn to do the pikes was concentrating on pulling my butt up to come up to the peak. Try that see if it works better - I can do pikes on my tip toes and I can do lots of them in a row (at least 50). I do have a strong core, but I still feel that if you think of pulling your butt upwards (like their was a string around it) you would also be able to do them.

Hey that's good advice! I am going to focus on that on my next ab day-Friday. I can't believe that you can do 50!!! Do you have a six pack?

Doing pikes after the lifting part in Pyramid Upper Body is tough, tough, tough even if you already can do pikes! My arms are fried by then and don't want to hold my body up. I second Cheryl's advice on pulling your butt up to come up to the peak.

I agree with the other posters about concentrating on lifting your butt into the air rather than pulling the ball in. You might also want to try doing this section before the rest of PUB so that your shoulders and arms aren't so fatigued. Another thing to try would be to alternate bringing your knees in (the move Cathe does prior to the full pikes) with the pikes. She does this in KPC. One last thing I recommend you try is to put the ball higher up on your legs - under your shins or even your thighs - and then work your way down to your feet as your technique improves.

Good luck and stick with them! They do get easier.

Thanks so much for the advice you guys! I just finishe Pyr. Upper and I hiked my butt up and it works! I still can't do it on my tippy toes but I'll work up to it. It felt great to finally be able to do them!

I did what you said with the pikes and it worked. Now I just need to work up to doing 50 like you WOW! Thanks a bunch!

joy-joy,

You will be able to do it on your tippy toes real soon, now that you know the secret to doing the pikes on the ball. I can actually do more than 50 at a time on the ball - I have started doing them on slow counts too. That has made a big difference.

You can count slow to 4 going up and them hold the position for a count of 4 then go down for a count of 4 - that really seems to engage your core much more.

I do have some good development in my abs - but I don't have abs that look like Cathe's - her body fat is much lower than mine. I know my body fat is below 20% - but I have had ten children so I have that extra droopier skin from being stretched out 10 times with 8 1/2 to 10 pound babies.

That being said my abs do look great considering the children I have had and the fact that I turned 50 this past December. Keep at the pikes and you will truly amaze yourself.

WOW! You are a wonderwoman!! 10 kids?!!! What is the age range? and you just turned 50! I am 37 but I do not think 50 is old at all. I may start a new career at 50. Right now I am a SAHM for 2 girls ages 2 and 5. How long have you been working out? Did you work out intensely during your pregnancies? I am debating whether or not to have another. Everytime I see a baby I melt. I think I'll regret it later if I don't. You are an incredible inspiration.

I am going to shoot for the 4 count pikes now. How often do you work your abs? How often do you wo? What's your fav video?

I do 2 or more hrs. daily 6 days a week. 1 hour of weights and 1 hour of cardio. right now I am luvin KM and KPC

Thanks so much!
Joy

Joy,

I am a SAHM too. I have 7 kids home now. I home school 6 of them. I have been home schooling for 13 years. My children are 5, 7, 9, 11, 14, 16, 19, 21, 28 and 32. The last 5 are boys - the second and the third are boys too - I have three girls.

I absolutely LOVE babies, too, so does my husband - I still melt when I see them - they smell so good and are adorable. Well, I know I am all done - just went through menopause. I would love to be a grandma, but it doesn't look like it will happen too soon.

I work out every day - I do not take days off - only one day a year when I go to the NASCAR race with my husband - I wo in the morning and do my cardio and core work then. I wo at night and do my weight training ( which isn't every night ). I, also do kickboxing karate for which I will test for my black belt in April.

I love all of Cathe's wo's- I have been doing Cathe's wo's for 11 years now. I have worked out throughtout the last 8 pregnancies. Some people are amazed that I can do high impact and jumping jacks after having 10 babies and not be incontinent - I attribute that to all the weight training and the muscle tone.

I own every wo Cathe has ever made and her tapes are truly awesome - I can't stop being addicted to them. It is a good addiction.

Let me know how the pikes go - I absolutely love the ball work - those pikes work your core so well and your upper body.

You can PM me if you want.

Cheryl

I love doing pikes on the stability ball. I can get through all of KP&C but Pyramid UP is one I can't seem to get all the way through, mostly because my shoulders get so strained. I go up on my tippy toes too.
