People who don't believe Cathe is hard

Does anyone here work or socialize with people that can not believe that you are getting a better workout with Cathe at home? I decided to cancel my gym membership (been going for about 5 years) and workout at home with Cathe. Mainly because I was so bored with the classes and the instructors and the personal trainers at my gym are a joke. I instructors were always late did the same thing every time, every day, every month etc... so I couldn't see spending that money when I could build up my Cathe workouts and get more intense and challenging workouts at home. Everytime I say something about being sore from my workout or how tough it was or fun she always has to say something about the gym or the classes. Like she can't believe that I got a better workout than her. Like today I wasn't even talking about my actual workout but said that I ate dinner before I worked out and it seemed to help alot with my energy level. She said "Man the gym is really getting busy, the classes are really filling up". I don't know. Am I just being petty? or reading too much into this? We used to be able to talk all the time about our workouts but now since I'm not going to the gym anymore I don't feel I can even mention what I did for my workout. That's why I am so glad that you guys are here. You KNOW how intense and challenging Cathe can be. I know not all gyms are like that and I wish mine wasn't. Anyway, gotta go.

Yeah--one of the captains at the firehouse runs w/me on occasion, & of course I don't run much in the winter. I told him I did step at home before work instead & he said "yeah but that's not a very good workout, is it?" I said "my friend, if you ever feel like taking a break from the pavement meet me at my house at 6 am Monday morning, I'll show you how easy it is." ;-)

Obviously these people don't know Cathe!! I have a girlfriend who is a personal trainer & group fitness instructor. She has worked out to my Cathe collection (which is everything except her very early w/o) and said they are equally or more challenging than what she teaches at the club. The only time for me that a gym/club worked better was when I wanted to lift heavy enough that I would need a spotter. I don't lift that way anymore and I get all the challenge I need from Cathe at home :7

Yes ma'am Kimbra.....than person would be my dh.

OMG he's always going on & on about how Cathe did not get that body by doing these choregraphed workouts. How I can get much better results if I use the machines we have in our basement.

Every time I challenge him to a workout there's always an excuse. Grant it, the leg presses she does are modified against the leg press machine, but ya know something it's funny b/c since I have been doing these modified leg presses and L&G he has nothing but good things to say about the changes in my body. Your arms are looking a little leaner b/c I can see a vein. Your quads are really thick. Your traps are amazing......but Cathe workouts are not effective. Go figure.

I was lurking and had to put in my 2 cents.

I am a stay at home Mom to a nine year old. I also cover for my niece's and one nephew since both of their parents work. People always ask me why I don't go to the gym since I am free during the day. I explain and they just give me this funny look.

I think that there is this stigma if you will that if you don't go to a "gym" you won't get results. My girlfriend is an instructor. Her hubby is working two jobs right now and she has a 12,10 and 3 year old. She teaches about twice a week. I offered her some of my dvd's to keep her going in case she couldn't make it to the gym. She took them and never used them. Did't have the time with the three year old running around. Yet she had the time to pack the car up and drive 30 minutes in Northern Michigan snow to the gym, workout for 1-1/2 hours and then pack up and drive home 30 min. Then complains that she has no time and that I don't understand since I only have one child. Whatever . .

My point being that I believe some people thrive for that "hey look my plate is full but I am still AT THE GYM" mentality. It is such a big social thing for them also.

I don't think if I started going to the gym I would see any better results than what I do at home with Cathe.

I admire those that go but I don't feel they are any better than us stay at home fitness people.

A thought . . .

Don't let it aggravate you. Don't you look better & feel better anyway? You don't have anything to prove because those that are in the know- know better anyway.

Marla;-)

I give a hundred percent credit to ALL you Cathes who ONLY workout at home because that is self disapline and dedication man.

Im am a half /half person - love the solitude of working out on my own at home but also need the "group fitness" fix occasionaly.

What ever works for you baby!

Marla's right. You dont need to prove anything to anyone, but to yourself. Non Cathe friends are like the non workout DHs here..............your not going to change them, so just let it go.

Kimbra,
Hi I'm relatively new to Cathe, but I used to go to a gym and saw little results, and had no time plus an automatic deduction on my cheking account every month, Then I bought a step that had a Cathe workout tape. Iwas hooked and lost ten pounds in two months, before I had been going to the gym for almost a year with minimal results!
She is tough but very motivating, I just can't get that at my gym, and I have a lot more time. Plus I don't have to dress up or drive anywhere. If I want to work-out at 6:00 am in my underware I can, not that I do that, but I do have the option, hahah.
Anyway, just let it go, those who balk at it just can't understand it and are missing out! keep on doing what your doing. Anie

Instead of letting it get to you, challenge her to join you one day (as others have done with those that poo-poo them).

My minister was a jock in high school & today at 45 is still very active & competitive. He & my old man are very good friends. One day while at our house, he saw my tapes & made fun of me. I challenged him to a workout. He said sure. I said, "I get to pick the workout for you to do, you can't skip a single rep." He still said sure. I stuck him with Power Hour. My husband, having done it with me 1 time, told him he was a dead man & had better make sure we did this on Sunday afternoon because the minister is off on Monday. So, we picked a Sunday afternoon & met in my workout room. I thought he would cry when Cathe started doing low ends. Suffice it to say, he never laughed at my workout tapes again.

And for those that don't believe you can get Cathe's body with choreographed workouts...Show them AmyFit's picture & testimony...

I haven't been doing Cathe long enough to see results but the other day I was doing Supersets and Hubby (who works out at home with free weights, etc.)said, "Oooh, make it seem hard." Speaking to Cathe. He is such a jerk and thinks that the workouts aren't tough.
I'm motivated to get into shape just to show him he is wrong!x( :D

Hi
My DH has always ignored my workouts but we have all been training alot lately and ended up in the workout room together. (My DD and he were doing bowflex and treadmill) I was doing Stepblast and then several body parts from Pyramid Upper (5 set). He got a respectful look on his face during Stepblast and said "you gotta give her credit for still being able to talk". During Pyramid Upper he was correcting my form on the biceps but also looked respectful. He told me during Leaner Legs the other day that I was gonna "kill the slopes" when we ski in March. (sit downs--I really hate those things though) The trick is they need to either see or actually do the workout. I really love how tough Cathe's workouts are and for the first time feel really satisfied w/ the intensity level. /karen

I, too, was just intending on checking out everybody else's responses, but I've got to put in my 2 cents.

Like many of you, I've always worked out at the gym, and I've lost weight, but lost interest with it. Last March I started working out at home and was intro'd to Cathe, and haven't been able to go back to any other instructor or gym since.

I will admit, that when someone asked me where I workout, I used to be sort of embarassed and defensive to tell them at home with videos. But when they started looking at me differently when I dropped all the weight and started building some pretty muscles, they started asking me about Cathe.

NOW...my kids and I just received as a gift, a year's membership to the local Y. I am making an effort to not let that donation go to waste, but I'm not changing to their cardio or weight rooms. I still do my early AM workout with Cathe and I have the kids involved in several classes (gymnastics, swimming, basketball). I just cannot turn back now.

i haven't had anyone say it directly to me.. but i'm sure they are thinking it!

they don't know that cathe is a darned good workout!

You know, for most people seeing is believing. Nobody, except for my dh,kids and dogs ever see me work out with Cathe. Therefore, none of my friends or coworkers have a clue how hard I workout.

When someone is discussing exercsie and I mention that I workout aat home to vidoes/dvd's, you can almost see the look of "oh please" on their face. Well, pooh to them.

I would love to give them a shot at Cathe. I guess what/who they don't know can't hurt them, right?

:) Renee

See that's what I'm talking about. It's not always the gym thing. My dh couldn't even complete kickbox with me.

My DH thinks Cathe is a "beast". He thinks she looks amazing. DH did the lower body workout with me and knows for a fact that Cathe is a beast...as he could barely walk the next day. My DH is not that out of shape either, Cathe is just tough and know one knows until they do the workouts. Speaking of which, KPC is on tomorrow morning...OH, MY!!! I am telling myself right now..."I AM FEELING STRONG" Will anyone else be joining me tomorrow????
BTW, don't you just love it when Cathe says, "Are you feeling it"??? Makes me want to scream at her...."YES, CATHE...YES"!!!!
Charlotte~~

Hey there, Maximus! This will be my third time doing KPC. First time I didn't make it all the way and second time I felt myself yelling at Cathe that she needs to slooowww down. LOL. Gonna try to be more graceful with it this time. Got to get some sleep tonight though. Will be nice to know someone else is sweating along with me.
Have fun too.;)

I'm also a former gym-brat. Never again. I get such a better and more efficient workout from Cathe than I could ever get at the gym. I mean, I don't have to wait around for the equipment I want to use to become available - so there's about 30 minutes of wasted time that I get back right there. Also, there's no more driving to and from the gym (more time that I get back - and I'm a busy person...every minute I can get back from empty time-wasters, like driving to or from the gym, is a bonus). Plus, I don't have to dicker around with the gym's schedule -- I can work out on my own schedule.

So, if people want to poo-poo me because they think I'm doing "wimpy" workouts at home, I'll show them. I'll show them next summer when I'm wearing shorts and tank tops and have firm, shapely legs and arms. I'll show them how wimpy my workouts are when I've dropped a size or two and they're still plugging away at the same weight with their gym membership. :D
