People w/ new Body Blast tapes - please compare intenisty for me!

jillybean

Cathlete
How would you compare the intensity between the following workouts:

Legs and Glutes vs. Leaner Legs
Kick Punch & Crunch vs. Cardio Kicks
Step Blast vs. Rhythmic Step
Step Jump & Pump vs. Cardio and Weights
Push/Pull vs. Supersets

I'm not talking about fun factors or choreography, just intensity. Thank you so much for letting me live vicariously through you until the DVDs ship!

I can only compare Step Jump & Pump vs. Cardio and Weights. But, comparing SJ&P to CircuitMax may be more fitting since the strength part of C&W concentrates on upper body.

Remember that the cardio during the circuits of SJ&P are all hi/lo.

Believe it or not, the hi/lo is not as intense as, let's say, MIC and CircuitMax, but IS more intense than the cardio of C&W (it's the plyos).

However, the lower body strength is more intense than in CircuitMax.

I only got VHS of KPC and L&G to tide me over until I get my DVD's. I did KPC this morning and I think it is more intense than Cardio Kicks. There is very, very little rest in KPC - Cathe is a SUPERFREAK in this workout! Her energy is amazing and her body is incredible. You go very quickly from one kick, punch, or combo to the next. I will also add that sitting here, 12 hours since doing the workout, my butt is really feeling it. I'm trying to figure out what moves would have caused it, but it is likely just the "shock" of doing a different workout. I think this is probably the best kickbox workout I have ever done. The ab section is great too - LOVED the Jurassic Park music!

RE: People w/ new Body Blast tapes - please compare int...

Hi Jillybean,
Legs & Glutes has a different spin on some of the classic moves. Lunges with you foot on a dumb bell. Looks easy but you really feel the difference. Standing on your high step balancing on one leg arms folded in front of you and lowering down to tap your toe on the ground. Ouch! Low ends to the count of 7 instead of 3. Leg weights for inner & outer thighs. I love the Body Blast tapes and was a little afraid they would kill me. In my opinion some of Cathe's tapes are a little more difficult (Power Hour MIS) It is wonderful to add some changes to your weight work. Cathe is the best and has proven it again. Hopefully your DVD's will arrive soon and you will have a Blast!!

RE: People w/ new Body Blast tapes - please compare int...

Hi Jillybean,

I would say Cardio Kicks is higher impact than Kick, Punch & Crunch. Kick Punch & Crunch is great for someone with a small workout area and is more low impact. There is a core work section with the K,P,&C using the stability ball. I believe it is safe to say that Cardio Kicks is a more intense cardio workout and a bigger calorie burner!! My heart rate is much higher doing Cardio Kicks. Can you tell Cardio Kicks is my favorite Kickboxing video? I don't think anything will ever replace it, except maybe the Cardio Kicks DVD if I ever get around to getting a dvd player;-) Have a great day!
Blessings,
Denise

RE: People w/ new Body Blast tapes - please compare int...

I just finished KP&C about a 1/2 hour ago. She has some intense drills that will push your heart rate up and then you bring it down a bit between the segments. I do not keep a measure of my heart rate, only my perceived exertion and number of times I get out of breath. I think you'll like this video and it will be a great compliment to Cardio Kicks & CTX Kickbox. I thought I worked harder with KP&C but then the first time through you get lost in learning the combinations (or tired is more like it). I'm sure you will love it! There are more combinations that build on each other and last longer than in the other 2 kickbox workouts and you end up with abs on the ball (yes, pikes!).

RE: People w/ new Body Blast tapes - please compare int...

I just finished Legs & Glutes... my lower body is SCREAMING! It's a completely different workout than Leaner Legs. There's no barbell to lift overhead but the reps seem endless and the sweat was pouring off. Cathe and crew doesn't use anything heavier than a 15 lb. dumbbell (which is what I used) and it was plenty heavy enough for now. I used 2.5# ankle weights and beleive you me, I felt it! I loved everything about this workout. A very pleasant change from the usual squats and lunges, with a lot of balance work. I really felt my core engaging through most of it. If I can walk without hobbling this afternoon, it will be a miracle (and I'm used to a heavy barbell for Leaner Legs). Hope this helps!

RE: People w/ new Body Blast tapes - please compare int...

I am waiting for the DVD's but I have a quick queston...

Does Cathe show modifications for the stability ball work like she does in the intensity series?

Thanks.

RE: People w/ new Body Blast tapes - please compare int...

Hi Jilly,
These are just my own observations. The results could be different for others. Here goes....
I think Step Blast is less intensity than Rythmic Step. Perhaps it is shorter in duration that contributes to my observation.
Step Blast has the plyo jumps and airborne jacks at the end, but I couldn't feel my heartrate go up as much as Rythmic Step.
I was only on a 6" box and I normally use the 8". That also could be a factor.??? I will definately use the 8 for Step Blast. Had to learn the moves first though.
However, I don't find the moves that difficult to do in Step Blast.
I still trip up somewhere in Rythmic Step as I have jinxed the tape. hahaha

Comparing Leaner Legs to Legs and Glutes, I would agree with the above poster. They are just different.
The use of the ankle weight (I used 3#'s) was very doable for me. And since I had been practicing doing Pilates, some of the moves in that, prepared me for Legs and Glutes. For example you have ankle weights on, you are standing and take one leg up with knee bent, then straighten in out and back down for 3 counts. This takes balance in the core region to execute this move. I did this move for awhile without weights on a Pilates tape. Glad I did.
Now I should be brave and use the ankle weights for PLB since I survived this workout. :9

There aren't as many squats in Legs and Gluts, if there are, I must have been enjoying it or the music and didn't notice. Hahaha The barbell isn't used. So far, I don't feel sore in my legs. Maybe tomorrow. Hahaha

You are gonna love Super Sets. There is different moves in this workout as well. The preacher curls...leaning over the stability ball and doing bicep curls with the barbell loaded 25#'s or more. I find this will give me a different way to build up the bi's.

Super Sets is to me, like BootCamp without the cardio and using heavier weights. The core work on the ball is cool, but doable as well. I had been practicing with a Kelly Roberts ab tape. So the side raises on the ball was a piece of cake.

I love this series and will use these workouts often. It's a keeper.

Haven't did Kicks or Step and Pump yet. I'm off to preview Step and Pump when I tear myself away from here.

Can't wait for you to get the DVD's and see your rotations that you come up with. You are a pure genius at doing that.
Maybe I can get a personalized Jilly rotation someday. :9

These workouts are by far much less in intensity than the Intensity Series. The music is AWESOME & it really ROCKS so motivating. You already got the description on Legs & Glutes so I'll just comment on the others:

Kick Punch & Crunch is far less in intensity than Cardio Kicks. I'm a seasoned kickboxer w/complex choreography & this one just doesn't do it for me. However, everyone's tastes are different you may just love this one. Its along the lines of Powerstrike which BTW does nothing for me.
Step Blast for me has trickier moves but not as intense as Rhythmic Step. Its simply a mind blower to try to get all of this choreography. I only mastered combos 1 & 2 so far.
My all time favorite is Step Jump & Pump. I had thought this one was going to be my least favorite but as it turns out is superb!! Everything is in this one from tricky step moves, hi-lo, low impact, weight training is much harder than Cardio & Weights + there's more yoga & core work. This one has it all!
Supersets is GREAT whereas Push/Pull won't do anything for me if your used to training heavy. These 2 videos are more DVD friendly. You gals are soooo lucky b/c you'll be able to tack on far more sets & reps if you wish. There are, however, a lot of new moves using the stability ball which is exactly what I had suggested to Cathe. In push/pull there's a new move for doing your shoulder press that looks downright evil!}( I'll be doing this tape tonite so we'll see how I do. HTH, Kathy:7

Thanks for all of the replies! My dear friend A-Jock filled me in on SJ&P, SB, and KP&C yesterday so I am very excited to try those. But let's face it - I'm pretty stoked about the other 3 too. Sounds like the music is great! One last question: A couple of the new workouts reference a move called "explosive lunges". Are these the same thing as power scissors? Thanks again all of you!!!!

RE: People w/ new Body Blast tapes - please compare int...

:D The explosive lunges are like power scissors except they are much quicker. After you lunge your leg you immediately push off and power lunge several times (killers!) As for intensity comparisons: I agree with the others. Rhythmic step to me is more intense than Step Blast (but I love it)! Peg leg pivot through me in the challenge but not in the breakdown. Cardio Kicks is more intense than Kick, Punch and Crunch! You will love the drills where Cathe combines 2 alternate punch, kick moves and combines these into a drill! FUN! I actually found Step, Jump and Pump to be quite intense (never thought it would end). This video has everything (step, hi-lo, kickbox, weights). A real sweat dripping, fat burner! Supersets and Push and Pull use the stability ball quite frequently! The Supersets features a new move called the triceps seasaw where you balance your core on the stability ball and hands on the floor and do tricep pushups like a seasaw on the ball back and forth! The music is great, but I think I prefer the Intensity series music!

RE: People w/ new Body Blast tapes - please compare int...

Just my opinion here - I felt that the intensity level of the Kick, Punch & Crunch was just as, if not more, intense than Cardio Kicks. I was sweating buckets!!! Although, I love Cardio Kicks and use it often, I had a lot of fun with KP&C too - it was very different than CK, so I think it will add some great kickboxing variety to our Cathe vids.

I also think that Step Blast has a lot more high impact than RS - it is a lot of fun too. I can't wait to get all the moves figured out so I can really give it my all!

I'm loving this series so much - I also purchased the DVDs and can see the endless combination possibilities are going to keep me busy for a long time!!!:9

Want to clarify re: music!

:) :D I actually prefer the whole package of Intensity Series music over Body Blast music, but I do like the new songs (top 40) and the oldies but goodies. I guess I didn't particularly like the music in Supersets! Just me! Love the Kung Fu Fighting kickbox section in Step, Pump and Jump!

I'm a seasoned kickboxer w/complex choreography & this
>one just doesn't do it for me.

Hey Kathy, I love very INTENSE KB workouts , would U suggest some very hard videos please ?;) And which are Ur favourite ????

Thanks so much !!!!!!:7 :) ;)

Hi Samantha! I would definitely recommend Sherri Jacquelyn from CIA its called "Kickbox Jam" as well as "Fit to Kick" which is also very good. Janis Saffell's CIA 9809 ? (I think its this one) "Kickbox Express" this one also has a very advanced jump rope section in it Janis's tapes go for 90 min. There's also Debbie Burns TKO also from CIA as well as Terri Reeves; this one is called "Bootcamp" but it does have kickboxing in it. Go to ciavideo.com to find the ones I mentioned from CIA & go to janissaffell.com to purchase her tapes or DVDs. Happy kicking! Kathy:D

Kathy D:, I have every single one of the videos U mentioned and love them all ( especially SherrY Jaquelyn KJ )!!!!!!!!
I hope CIA will come out with more intense KB videos in the 2004 series !!!!!!
Thanks so much for replying !!!
