Pentagenerians & Beyond: W/B 3/28

Hi Everyone,

Tuesday I did Cathe Live Iron Legs and MM Shoulders then 35 minutes of Peloton rides and a short stretch.
Yesterday I did Cathe Live Low Impact Cardio-Compound Upper Body and the 1 set only premix of RWH Back, Shoulders & Biceps. I really liked the Live workout. Cathe doesn't have a lot of metabolic upper body workouts so this is a nice addition and I will do it again.

Valerie-Great rides! I'm glad you had a good birthday. I've never seen an albino deer.

Cathy-Nice workouts this week. How did you like Live Boxing HiiT Express?

Carolyn-Great job with WS3 Cardio Step Jam.

Hi to Deb & Diane Sue

Today I did P 30 Perfect Pump Upper Body + Upper Body Bonus+ Extended Stretch. That was 55 minutes and 255 calories burned. My average heart rate was 118 and maximum heart rate was 164.

Valerie, nice ride yesterday. Spotting an albino deer must have been exciting. I need to look that up as I have never heard of one.

Cathy, nice work with STS Heavy Legs and Live Boxing HiiT Express. I really miss browsing in the library and book stores. Curbside pick up is a good option, but I haven’t tried it.

Judy, great job with Live Iron Legs, MM Shoulders, Peloton ride and Stretch on Tuesday and Live Low Impact Cardio Compound Upper Body yesterday. That’s great that you are enjoying Cathe Live.

Hello to Deb and Diane Sue. Have a wonderful day everyone.

we went skiing this morning for 4 hours. NOW I am tired. xc skiing is a lot of work, more so if the snow isnt great, and it wasn't. there is so much snow we will be skiing probably into mid May unless it warms up a lot and melts things. we are at 157% of normal on snowpack, so can only drive to 2000 feet elevation. and then a LOT of snow. this is day #4 of long cardio exercise so will go easy tomorrow.

the proper term is apparently "piebald" not albino, if what I looked up is right. deer was all over white, not brownish or patchy colored. I was nowhere near close enough to see details like eye color. I did look up the location and the general area has had white deer in the recent past. this was one of those "drive by" things.... at 60 MPH you see something, takes a few seconds to register that what you are seeing is unusual. it was not a cow or a horse which would be normal to see. I saw it clearly but we were also too far past it to grab a picture even if my camera had been handy. its a busy road, we couldn't just jump off to the side and stop. I wish I could have gotten a pic. we don't drive there often because traffic is pretty awful due to the season, and goes thru a big construction zone. bridge repair.

cathy it makes sense that if there is one white deer there would likely be more, as genetics would get passed on especially if an adult lives long enough to reproduce. this deer would be at serious disadvantage during hunting season. he/she really stood out. I remember seeing pics of some albino moose somewhere, maybe canada?

Just finished setting up my workout for tomorrow. It's Shoulders, Biceps and Triceps and some of the rounds have me adjusting my wrist weights between every set, that's going to be fun. LOL

Judy great job on the Cathe Live's and the Peloton! I really like the Boxing Hiit Express. It's only 32 minutes long and good for days I need something short and I get a good solid workout from it.

Carolyn nice job on the P30 Upper Body workout. I've done the bonus on the legs one, but not the upper body. It's interesting the library also has an option where they will like create a goody bag for you and pick out some books for you (I'm assuming based on your tasted, I didn't look very thoroughly at it.)

Valerie 4 hours is a LOT! You must have gotten the snow out there that we didn't get this winter. Yeah, a white deer that out in the wild in an area that's hunted are far too easy to spot, and in the UP they would be more vulnerable to the big predators. They are far more likely to survive living in cities or areas where hunting isn't allowed. I know the pain of going by something to fast and not getting a good look. A few years ago, on the highway near a large refuge, I'm quite sure I saw a golden eagle eating road kill. I KNOW it was an eagle and not a bald, I see those often enough. By the time I turned around, it had flown off. They are not at all common in Michigan, but they also do show up at times and have been seen in that area before. By Grandpa, the one who ate all the fat, lived to be 96. Puttered around his farm until he was 92 and started having strokes. Spent the last few years in a nursing home thinking he was in the Civil War. Always wondered how long he could have lived it he'd ate a decent diet. He loved fat, sugar and salt! Ate a lot of candy, and drank a Coke every day. We used to joke amongst ourselves that he got addicted back before they took the cocaine out it as he was born in 1897.

Cathy none of the men in my family lived that along. they ate what their wives cooked, and it got them fairly early. mid 70's, but a lot of debilitating problems before that. mostly T2 diabetes , arthritis, BP, gout. the women got the same problems but lived a lot longer. I used to joke... women in my mothers family live forever but they're miserable every minute. I had one aunt who was always on an unsuccessful diet. when the diet "shakes" became popular, she said the chocolate one was "OK .... but but much better with a scoop of ice cream in it". and she didn't see the ridiculousness of what she just said! no one did a lick of exercise. food was fat, sugar, and dessert. They all could bake amazing things. it seemed obvious that if you wanted a better life, you needed to do things differently. didn't happen for any of them. maybe all those cakes and cookies were enough of a reward.
I had an uncle who ran a small farm. he worked HARD so could afford a coke or whatever. he was skinny but the only skinny one. I don't know how long he lived. he was my grandmothers brother, so not sure if that is a great uncle? he used to bring us fresh veggies that my grandmother proceeded to boil to death in cream sauce.

Deer are at risk of being shot in semi rural areas like this one, with big farms and small sections of housing. probably greater risk is car traffic. this deer did not blend into the background.
Golden eagles are so HUGE! seen them many times but Balds are more common here. we have a lot of bald eagles.

yes that was a lot of exercise yesterday. we used to ski a lot like that. its not loud and obnoxious like downhill, my opinion. a quiet snow covered road with birds singing and lots of animal tracks and its so lovely. peaceful. the opposite of downhill. it is a lot of work but at a comfortable pace set by conditions. the issue is finding quiet accessible roads that aren't torn up by 4 wheelers.

STS Shoulder, Biceps and Triceps today! Only one week to go!! Managed everything even the concentration curls with the right arm that wasn't up to it last week. I think it was because when it started to falter near the end of the second set, it heard the left arm laughing at, and became more determined.

Valerie I really think that the main reason my grandparents all lived so long, was that they lived all their lives in this case of one side and nearly all on the other, in the country on farms. Lots of fresh air and gardens with their own vegetables and some fruit. So even if the rest of their diets was lousy, their was some compensation. My Mom's parents moved into a small village where they already knew everyone in the mid-60's. Still spent a lot of time outside and had a big garden. I've seen Golden Eagles in captivity and yes they are really big! I've just seen way too many Bald Eagles to have been confused about what it was, but no proof.

Today I did Ellen Barrett’s Fusion Flow for 46 minutes and 203 calories burned. My average heart rate was 112 and maximum heart rate was 147.

Valerie, 4 hours was quite a morning of skiing! Great job.

Cathy, nice work with STS Shoulder, Biceps, and Triceps. You have accomplished a lot and only one week left. You should be proud of yourself. STS is such a time commitment. I love the fact that your grandfather was active on his farm until he was 92. I feel like there is a lot to be said for an active lifestyle and community connections.

Hello to everyone and have a wonderful day.

This morning I did CDorner Fast Basic Step which was the most recent done April 4, 42 minutes, heart rate 148/179, 258 calories, 5,097 counting morning steps. I got started early today as my granddaughter wanted to come over this morning and do some math games with my grandson for part of her teaching training. She is nearing finishing school to be a teacher. My husband was off and we went out for some things and he hung my rack for tubing and bands and attached the console to the tread climber. Still cannot use it because we have to find that thing you hook to you for safety and attaches to the tread climber. It won't run without it. My side that I hurt somehow feels better today. I still feel it some though. My neck is sure bothering me though. I was reading stuff last night and I think it was my oblique muscle that was pulled. It said if it is the underneath obliques, which is rare, it can take it a long time to heal. It started hurting Saturday when I turned to talk to my husband while doing a mobility workout. We are still arranging things and trying to adjust for our comfort levels.
Trying to get Gertie to use the doggie door. She will go out it if I am outside, but generally wants someone outside with her. If I get her to go out, she turns around and comes back in. We did not get internet till Sunday night and I was scrambling to get things set up for school work this week. Not a lot for workouts this week. I have done Dorner step workouts this week as they are low impact unless you want to kick it up with some hops, and I needed shorter workouts. Yesterday there was no workout as I took my granddaughter to her dentist and we stopped at Walmart since I was near one and I took them to lunch. Today has been more productive as far as getting some things done around here and I put the cabinets in order in the laundry room. I got Whole Foods to deliver here so I was happy with that. First order did not get here though and they had said not in their delivery area, but then two days later I was sent a thing to order and it asked to set my address default to the new house and I got my order. I tried a grocer (Homeland Outlet) in the City close by which was 3 miles away, but will not return. Very little produce and it was awful. Stuff looked like it had been around for awhile. Some of the ice cream was wrapped in saran wrap.

Valerie, I have never heard of an albino deer. That would be fun to see.

Judy, I really liked the Iron Legs Live workout. Nice work this week.

Carolyn, nice work with P30 upper workout and upper bonus yesterday and today's Ellen Barret Flow.

Cathe, you would think that living on farms and having all of that fresh food that they would all live a long healthier life, but I lost my grandfather who was in his 60's chasing a bull in the pasture. I lost my grandmother on the other side to cancer, and I lost my mother to ALS. My other grandmother lived to 90 and was really health conscious. I hated boiled fresh chicken. Blah! Great grandmother lived to 99 and passed away from a car accident along with the driver. Great job on STS. Maybe someday I will do it again.

Hi to Deb and Lori

Cathy,

This morning I did Cardio Party and the Extended Stretch for 50 minutes and 298 calories burned. My average heart rate was 121 and maximum heart rate was 148. I’m feeling a little sore from the Ellen Barrett workouts this week, especially yesterday’s Fusion Flow. There was quite a bit of lower body work included.

Diane Sue, I’m glad that you are settling in to your new home. It takes a while to get things the way that you want them to be. I’m sorry that your neck is still giving you trouble.

Hello All. I hope that everyone is having a great day.

This morning I did CDorner Step and Strength # 98, 46(more than actual as I paused to change bands and make notes) minutes, heart rate 143/179, 273 calories. I liked this one, except it just abruptly stops when she goes to the step to sit on it and start bicycle move for abs. She played "party music". I will give a brief run down. I also did her newest stretch, neck and back for tight muscles, 30 minutes, heart rate 79/110, 46 calories. Total time 76 minutes, 319 calories, 3,389 steps. This time I checked what my step count was before I started the workout. I liked this stretch. She says mobility is more for a warm up and stretch is good for the tight muscles. No real different moves here, just the way she progresses and explains form for the stretches. I need to try some other types of workouts with my new Garmin. It has a lot of different types of workouts in it's settings. I noticed Yoga, you can choose different types like Hatha, Bakraim etc.. There is cycling and indoor cycling etc.. Outdoor activities also. Also equipment settings for elliptical, stair climber etc.. I printed up the manual so maybe I can figure out more of the settings. You can add workouts to it and I am not sure how that works.

Step and Strength #98 Step with 1 riser, dumbbells and loop bands. I had to adjust to see what band worked best. I think the medium in a set I have of variations in strength. I tried the heavy Cathe band and it was a bit too tight for the moves using the step. The Fit Tower one was too easy. This took time because I kept stopping to find a different one. She only uses the loop bands on lower body and suggests you can use a dumbbell.
Warm up
cardio
first exercise grouping lower using loop band starting with it below the knees and doing step moves, she also works in some reverse lunges and squats etc. She moves the band up for part of the moves. Since I had a loose band at first I picked up a dumbbell and worked with both on one of the moves.
cardio
Upper with dumbbells(she has two sets there) each move is done for 10 reps then all moves repeated followed till 3rd round stops before the last two moves(I wish she would have continued for at least the biceps as I did not care about missing overhead press..
the moves are:
push ups which I did on the wall, rows with the heavier weights 15# dbs me, triceps kickbacks or dips(Chris did dips I used 10# dbs, twister curls 15# dbs 1st rnd then dropped to 10's the second as she goes pretty fast, overhead press 10# dbs (me) hers looks light, but no idea what she was using.
cardio which went into some core work standing on the step then down to the step for more core work and it stops.

Carolyn, nice work on Cardio Party today. I need to do some of my dvds to see how my Garmin works with them. Once I get the tv set up in the secondary workout room I will try some spin or Kelly's Ripped and Ride. I need to find that key to the Bowflex. My husband found the bolts to attach the console in the tool box he used to take it off. One of the little stationary legs got bent in the move, but it does not seem it will affect it's use.

This morning I did P30 Low Impact Hiit and then the Extended Lying Stretch. My parents got their second Moderna vaccines today. Mom's arm is sore, but Dad says he's had nothing so far. We'll see how they feel tomorrow.

Carolyn nice job with the yoga!

Diane Sue, sounds like you are getting all settled in. I hope you find the random missing things. Sorry to hear that your neck is still bothering you. Years ago, I had Derek is a sling and just twisted to do something and OUCH! I could hardly move. Got in to see my doctor and he said I sprained by ribs. I had no idea you could do that. Was near the side and I thought I'd torn a muscle. You've been getting in some great workouts this week! Hopefully, Gertie gets used to the pet door, and going out by herself.

Cathy, nice work on P30 Low Impact. My daughter that is a dermatologist said her arm was sore. I heard that the vaccine might not be a good idea for those with auto immune conditions. I am avoiding it since I already had the virus and they have no idea for sure how long immunity lasts. I will wait and see. I had wondered if I tore something as bad as it was hurting, but it seems to be getting better. I am just being careful about what I pick up. I started to pick up a huge box of games that was heavy and just slid it across the floor and let my husband bring it in for me. I did feel it when I was stretching and she did the sitting with a leg crossed and turning around as far as you can to one side. I decided to be gentle with that one.
Gertie is getting better at the pet door. She whimpers and I tell her to go outside. She goes out if the doggie door if she sees me outside, but wants someone to help her otherwise. Silly doggie.
