Pentagenerians & Beyond: W/B 3/21

I worked a 5 hour shift today. The store is getting very busy with the nice weather. I did a 45 minute Peloton Power Zone ride after work. I have tomorrow and Thursday off so I can get caught up on workouts and other things.

Valerie-Great ride! Chris and I are determined to get some outdoor riding in this year.

Cathy-Nice job with Steptastic!

Carolyn-Great job with LIS Upper Body Trisets! For some reason I've never done much with that DVD. I need to revisit it as I know the workouts are good.

Diane Sue-Nice job with the CDorner workouts! The 16 minute arm one sounds pretty good.

Hi to Deb

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Burn Sets, legs, heavy weights, 34 minutes, 177 calories, aslo 11,850 steps, and today I did Live Low Impact Cardio Compound Upper Body 46 minutes 279 calories. This one was a real burner, great format, I liked it a lot.

Valerie, what is the landscape project? It must be huge, since you and your DH have no problem taking on challenging landscape projects. :). I agree that forums are going out of popularity, but feel like Diane Sue does...you can have separate interest groups on FB...but you still get bombarded with ads and they can still sell your info to anyone they want. At least here, this is private. Good that you were able to get the leaks sorted out.

Carolyn, nice job on Rev'd Up Rumble and Upper Body Trisets. Yes I have done the Mobility workout. I liked it a lot, but have a hard time squeezing it into the weeks' workouts.

Diane Sue, I bet you will be so happy when the school stuff is done for the year. Keeping up with that and moving, working out in between, has to be exhausting. What is your move in date? Where do you get the Primal Kitchen bowls? That person that got kidney stones after having Covid? That is so coincidental....John insists that his second vaccine was the cause of his kidney stone....mmm....now you have me thinking...

Cathy, good job on adding those 5 pounds without even noticing it! I have the same problem with my top loader HE washer...I have to kind of throw myself up a bit to get the last darn sock! I still really like the machine though.

Judy, great job on the Peloton rides! Yes, I would imagine things at HD will start to be hopping now! We take the dogs there, to expose them to noises, but machinery and other people. The HD employees are great about that.

Have a great day!

Today I did Low Impact Sweat Workout Two which was 28 minutes and 180 calories burned. My average heart rate was 125 and maximum heart rate was 148.

Diane Sue, nice job with the upper body workout. Is there any word on a return to in person learning for your grandkids? My grandson went back last week and his sister will go back after spring break. She is now in middle school and they are starting later than elementary school for two days weekly of in person. The elementary school students are going four days per week.

Valerie, that’s great that you were able to ride yesterday.

Judy, nice job with the Peloton Power Zone ride. I like some of the workouts from the Low Impact Series, but the Trisets are my favorites. I hate Slide and Glide and I rarely want to do Turbo Barre, but I do use the other workouts. I have done Athletic Training and Afterburn recently because they were a part of the rotations. I actually enjoyed both, but probably wouldn’t think of them without the rotations.

Deb, great job with the Live workouts and getting 11,850 steps. That’s very interesting about your husband’s kidney stones and the second vaccine along with the person that Diane Sue mentioned.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

over time facebook has become a destructive force! I signed up ages ago and used wrong birthdate, etc. I use it only to access things not available elsewhere. I don't like the data sharing, the ads. ads are so ubiquitous now... no matter what you look at, even if its an accidental click, you get bombarded within 5 minutes for ages afterward.

Deb don't remember how much I wrote about the landscape project. our house is on a slope. when it was built 30 yrs ago, we had support walls built along the downhill side that doubled as raised garden beds. stabilized the slope. we used treated landscape timbers because that was available then. we contracted a landscaper, didn't do it ourselves. over the years we replaced some timbers and added a few more but didn't alter the original design. after 30+ years the timbers were seriously deteriorating. they are supporting ding 3-5 foot walls of dirt! landscape timbers were treated with heavy metals to help survive the weather. but in this wet climate they still rot and get slippery. disposing of them isnt easy. these days, concrete landscape bricks are built into walls instead. we did walls like this ourselves in our vegie garden, but this is much more footage and involves removing all the old stuff. its a lot of work for 4 guys and equipment to handle so right to do it this way. it will take them 2 weeks or so. its a big messy project!

we think our indoor water leak is fixed. plumber came back and did another section. will wait a while before hiring a drywall person to come in and patch it up.

my guess about the kidney stone is the second shot made him feel less than great, I know didn't. easy to not drink enough fluids. more concentrated pee is more likely to form stones, if you are a stone former. so related to the vaccine but not actually caused by it. my opinion only.

I have a neighbor who spent a bundle on a front loader and hated it. my niece got one in a house she bought. clothes didn't get clean, cycles took forever. for a while top loaders were not a great choice. companies transitioned away from the center agitator but new ones didnt work well. they are improved. I've been extremely happy with both of mine but I specifically found my machine in a store to make sure it wasn't too deep for me. its a stretch but I'm fine with that.

This morning was another STS Squat Rack workout. We'll see if I can walk, sit and stand better than I could last week. :D Derek finally got in touch with someone at the zoo who told him that yes he'd be getting an employment offer. Nick got his last week, and Derek sent his application in about a month sooner. They do work in different areas and apparently they have a new system, that the person doing Derek's is still learning. So, they will both be employed pretty much as soon as they get home. And Nick also talked to KFC, and they seemed willing to work around his hours at the zoo to give him some hours each week. Zoo, is bumping up their pay by a bit more than $2 over last year, so KFC can't compete there. I would like to think that they will get schedules more conducive to riding together, but Nick will get more hours.

Valerie that is a huge project! Hopefully it's smooth sailing.

Judy great job on the Peloton workout! I'm sure the store is getting much busier with the nice weather we're having. I'll still believe were done with winter when we get to about mid-May. LOL

Deb nice job on those leg and upper body workouts!

Carolyn great job on that Low Impact Sweat workout!

Hi Everyone,

This morning I did Live #309, Push Pull Total Body and this afternoon I did a 20 minute Peloton ride and 10 minutes of arm toning.

Deb-Great job with the Live workouts and getting all of those steps in. I love that people bring their dogs to Home Depot. All of the employees at my store love seeing the dogs too.

Carolyn-Great job with Low Impact Sweat Workout Two. Afterburn and Athletic Training are really good workouts. For some reason I forget that they are part of the Low Impact Series. I've never done Slide & Glide, but I'm sure I wouldn't like it since I don't do gliding workouts.

Valerie-Good luck with your project! It sounds like a big one.

Cathy-Great job with STS Squat Rack. I really liked the Squat Rack workouts when I was doing STS. I really should do another round of STS this year. I haven't done the entire program since 2015, I think. That was the only time I did it in it's entirety.

Diane Sue-We went to REI to get some new running shoes for Chris and I saw the Garmin Vivoactive 4S. That is a nice looking watch and it's a great size. I hope you like yours.

Quick check in. I wanted to try out my new Garmin watch this morning and did a CDorner Basic Step workout, 47 minutes, 263 calories, heart rate 139/165. I did not see a step count for just the workout so next time I will have to check before I start as it gave me 5,277. Generally morning before a workout runs about 500 steps. It has lots of graphs and extra. Gave me my sleep stats, I set the alarm last night and it worked with vibration like the Fitbit only a bit stronger. The stats seemed right for the workout I did today. There is so many extras that I will have to figure them out. It gives a body battery (how much energy you have based on stats) I woke up and it had me at 80/100. Now it is at 38 after working out and all of the stuff I have been doing. It has stats on stress as rest, low, med, high with time spent in each one. Minutes of intensity levels, and the Pulse Ox, respiration, and tracks water if you enter it. It also has a setting where you can have it warn you if your heart rate rises too much when you are sitting at a relaxed state. Something like that. I linked it to MFP and when I used the cardio setting on the watch today, it put my readings automatically into My Fitness Pal.

Deb, I get the Primal Kitchen Bowls from Whole Foods. I have watched for them at Sprouts, but so far they have not gotten them. I buy the chipotle mayo and dressings from Primal Kitchen at Sprouts. Not sure why they are not getting in the frozen foods. There is also a couple of meal items in bags that I think are two portions frozen. I have bought the beef pepper steak stir fry and put them in grain free or Ezekial tortillas. I repurchase that one occasionally, but the chicken pesto is my favorite.

Hi to all, I have to run. Son in Law just came by to get the washer and there is a walk through early in the morning. We close and move tomorrow.

Diane sue congrats on a successful sale and pending move. I wish we had a Whole Foods, Sprouts , or central Market somewhere near here but no. its a serious drive to go to one. even TJ's is a tough drive.

Dh decided to do the ceiling patch himself.... which actually means "ourselves". He's good at do-it-yourself projects. need to get a sheet of drywall if it stops raining sometime this morning.

I did Stacked upper body along with a few sets of curls with the new band. using the black one, and it's no where near as hard as my old black band( not cathe's) that's almost too hard to use at all. did my version of pull ups. its funny how they work. If I start out high and lower myself, and then pull myself up , I can identify the muscles that need to pull me back up, and it works better. I'm getting a bigger ROM, but it will be a while before I can do any unassisted. so... work in progress! I am using a giant rubber band for one knee to assist the lift. also did the Abs #2 workout from same DVD. I bought the rubber band ages ago and never got as far along as I have this time.

do you actually need to sleep wearing this watch? I'd find that a challenge.

I did not work out this morning. I wanted to get to the grocery store ahead of the storms that are coming in later today. It was raining a little, but not bad at all.

Cathy, nice job with the STS Squat Rack workout. It’s great that your sons have their jobs settled.

Judy, great job with Live Push Pull Total Body.

Diane Sue, your new Garmin sounds like it’s pretty fancy with a lot of features. Good luck with your moving day. I know it must be a relief to have it here at last.

Valerie, great job with Stacked Sets Upper Body, bicep curls, and the pull ups. That’s wonderful that you are still working on them and seeing improvement.

Hello to Deb.

No workout today as I shopped instead.

Diane Sue glad that you are liking the Garmin so far. Does the app that goes with it work well? Similar to the way the Fitbit one works? I hope your moving day goes smoothly.

Judy great job with the total body and Peloton workouts! I've done the cardio portion of the Slide and Glide a number of times. Gets me sweaty for a short one. I've probably only done the full workout once. The only thing with that is trying to remember to drink extra water before I start because the cardio section has no breaks.

Valerie that's great that you and your husband can patch the drywall yourselves. Great job with the upper body and abs workouts. I love that you are continuing to work on the pull ups. Another thing I need to adjust my attitude on along with push ups. I've worn my fitness watches to bed for so many years it would seem weird to me not to wear one.

Carolyn I hope your storms aren't bad. We really could use some rain here. We were low on snow, and have had little in the way of rain. Every day there are grass fires around the area. Even up in Marquette they've had fire warnings in mid-March. Normally they still have a lot of snow on the ground, but some areas have none at all now.

Is anyone else contemplating the new yoga mat Cathe's going to start selling? Pretty high price tag, but most of the ones on Amazon that size cost a similar amount. Just not sure I would use it enough to justify the cost.

Hello,

No workout today, but I did run 2 dogs in an agility class for an hour, so I am counting that. :).

Carolyn, nice job on Low Impact Sweat. Same as you....I hate Slide & Glide and don't like any of the workouts that include using the sliding disks or rags. I just do something similar without one of those devices. I think I sold Afterburn and Athletic training on Ebay. Just did not click with me.

Valerie, wow, that is some major work you are having done. Nice job on the assisted pull ups! I think what you said about the kidney stone was right on. He did feel lousy for about 12 hours after the 2nd shot, and maybe he didn't drink a lot of water. He usually drinks water all day, even at work.

Cathy, do you have an actual squat rack to use for those workouts? Great that both of your sons will have a job at the zoo. I did look at that yoga mat and agree that the price is pretty steep. I would not use it enough to justify paying for it.

Judy, nice job on Push Pull Total Body, (one of my favorite Live workouts!) and the Peloton ride. I have to say that I liked a lot of the LIVe workouts before Covid, with the class and Cathe, but have found that the ones she has been doing alone are more to my liking. The one I did yesterday will be another favorite. I would like to hear what you think of it.

Diane Sue, hope the move went well today! it sounds like you will enjoy the new Garmin! Thanks for the info on the Primal Kitchen bowls. I will have to go to Whole Foods and check them out.

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

Today I did Rock'm Sock'm KB and a 15 Minute Peloton ride.

Deb-The agility class with 2 dogs sounds like a workout to me! I definitely agree with you on Cathe's Live workouts. I prefer the ones that she has been doing alone. I haven't tried the one you did yesterday but I will be trying it soon, probably Sunday or early next week.

Cathy-I've thought about the new yoga mat but it is expensive and I don't really have the room for it. It is nice though.

Carolyn-I hope the weather didn't get too bad there.

Valerie-Great job with Stacked Upper Body and the bonus abs.

Diane Sue-I hope your move is going smoothly.

This morning I did Stacked Sets Lower Body and Extended Stretch 1 for 51 minutes and 245 calories burned. My average heart rate was 117 and maximum heart rate was 148. The weather here at my house was not severe, but there is extensive tornado damage in some of the surrounding areas both north and south of us.

Cathy, I would like to have the round yoga mat. I have wanted one for several years but haven’t decided for sure. I have even tried using two regular yoga mats side by side, but that doesn’t work well at all. I have looked at them on Amazon and a few other sites and they are all pricey. I bought my current yoga mats and blocks from TJ Max.

Deb, I would definitely count the agility classes as a workout. Running with your dogs sounds like a good endurance activity.

Judy, great job with Rock’m Sock’m and the Peloton ride.

Hello to Diane Sue and Valerie.

Today was STS Shoulder, Biceps and Triceps. Made it through, but though barbell bicep curls were rough. Weirdest thing was when I was doing the concentration curls. First three sets were hard, but I did them, got to the right arm (supposedly my stronger one) and it just didn't want to happen. Finally did assisted for at least half the reps. Then the left arm was fine. By last night, all my leg muscles were feeling Wednesdays leg workout. Definitely not as sore as last week though.

Deb I definitely agree agility training the dogs counts as a workout! I use my Fit Tower for the Squat Rack workouts. On the highest setting the bar sits just a bit higher than my shoulders, so it's an easy on and off.

Judy great job on Rock'm Sock'm!

Carolyn the mat I have is comfortable to use, but it doesn't look so great anymore thanks to all the times the cats have "helped" me workout. Justify...must justify need for new one. LOL Maybe I need to get my sister in on it, we've talked each other out of a few things lately! Great job on the SS Lower Body.

I only got in 15 min on the elliptical last night for the day.
today was different. we did a road ride 25.5 miles. couldn't do this ride last year because the bike path was closed for repair. part was open but the closed section was right in the middle , so it made it not worth riding for us. it re opened last last year but we didn't get back to that section.. so first time in a long time. there was no detour. it was a little cold and gray but we did it anyway. 2 hrs 15 min. I might get sore from this one, its longer and harder than the road rides we've been doing.

I have a fairly expensive yoga mat. DH bought it for me but then my yoga studio closed. I never found another place I liked. so I use my expensive mat less than planned. I like the idea of a round mat but I don't do enough yoga to justify. most yoga would be fine on a rectangular mat.

I agree...agility with the dogs qualifies as a workout. Cathy I am totally right handed but my left side is always stronger. kind of perplexing. you would think the right side is used way more and that would make it stronger but it didnt.

off to do some grocery shopping before the weekend.

This morning I did LIVE Cardio Crush. It's about 38 minutes and pretty intense, at least it was for me. She uses a mat and tubing as markers for part of it, but I skip those. There's also a pretty long section with a fitness loop. Definitely kept my heart rate up. Ave 135 with a high of 165.

Valerie that's great that you were able to get in such a long ride yesterday. I've noticed that my left arm tends to be stronger, too, it's just not normally that noticeable. I decided years ago that it's because I have a tendency to carry things on my left side, to leave my right hand free to open doors etc. I noticed it when I had the boys, because if I had to pick them up, I always put them on my left side.

This morning I did an Interval Power Walk from GHUTV (Chris Freytag’s site), that was 20 minutes and 143 calories burned. My average heart rate was 130 and maximum heart rate was 148. Then I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, Core Strength and Flexibility, for 33 minutes and 42 calories burned. The GHUTV site has a variety of workout types and lengths to choose from which is something that I like.

Cathy, nice job with STS Shoulders, Biceps, and Triceps. I often need to do assisted curls for part of concentration curls. I’m just not very strong with that exercise.

Valerie, nice long ride yesterday. Great job. Getting a yoga mat from a yoga studio is a good way to get a quality mat. When I move around during some yoga or fusion workouts is when I wish for a larger mat. It always happens with Mobility Basics.

Waving hello to everyone and wishing you a wonderful day.

didnt do anything today so far except grocery shopping. when I was young, saturday mornings were absolutely the worst, busiest time to shop. I worked in grocery stores to put myself thru college so that fact continued into my 20's. now, I swear the best time to shop to avoid crowds is saturday morning, a total flip flop.

our yard project is moving right along,. a total mess right now. I'm better off not looking too much.

I have a Manduka mat. its quite large and heavy. it lays flat without curling or sliding, but I like the cheaper more "spongy" mats better. its quite "firm/hard" to work on. Carolyn the only time I ever thought of a circular mat was doing the Mobility workout. in a studio it would give more space between people, but some of the classes I attended, it would have been a problem fitting it in the space.

the angles of how my shoulder, elbow and wrist go together is not the same between rt side and left. the left side straighter. I have great trouble doing barbell curls unless I use an easy curl bar. straight bar is unpleasant. I assume that has something to do with the strength difference. overall my left side is stronger though I am right handed. even my left eye is dominant.

might take today off if we decide to do something tomorrow.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I worked 6 hours at HD and got over 18,000 steps for the day. Today I also worked 6 hours and I am at 15,000 steps now. My hours are going up from April through July so I'll be getting more exercise in at work starting next weekend. Last night I did a short Peloton ride. I may try to do a short workout later tonight.

Carolyn-Great job with Stacked Sets Lower Body and the GHUTV workout. I had a trial subscription to GHUTV a few years ago.

Cathy-Great job with STS and Live Cardio Crush!

Valerie-Nice job with the road ride! Manduka is a good brand. I've seen their products at REI.

Hi to Deb & Diane Sue!

still around today. lots of work here so skipping a formal workout.

Judy, I don't know if there are different Manduka mats, but the one I have is bigger than most mats and is really firm/ hard. if DH hadn't gotten it for me, I would not have picked it. it will hold up to a lifetime of use but the slightly softer mats are nicer to work out on IMO. if you consider one, be sure you try it first.
working at a warehouse store helps you rack up the mileage!
