Good morning,

It was an awesome and emotional time at the finish line of the ride my cousin did. 540 miles in 7 days. A huge celebration at Niagara Falls where it ended yesterday. Here is a link for anyone interested. Not sure if this will work. I am not FB savvy at all. Scroll down a bit, this is the group with the Falls behind them.

https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008446952753

Judy, thanks for the info on Core Max. I must have that DVD somewhere, since I believe I have the complete Hard Core series. Will have to look for it.

Valerie, gardening is a workout! All that bending, lifting etc. counts! :). There were people smoking at the event yesterday, granted we were outside, but in a close crowd like that, it should not be allowed. Ugh....John had a guy with a cigar standing behind him. He had to move.

Carolyn, love that Pyramid workout, good job. I never really took a liking to figs myself. I see that they are used a lot as sweeteners in recipes, especially by the NG's.

Diane Sue, agree, you would not want to do a lot of High Step stuff with a hurting knee. John gets furious when a patient comes in with all kinds of stuff found on the internet. Not sure where I heard or read this recently, but someone mentioned a degree from medical school, versus a "WIFI degree" ....

Lori, so sorry about Madeline. . She fought a good fight. (HUGS) to you and your family.

Take care,

Deb, i could only see your profile picture. Ending at Niagra Falls sounds perfect. Tobacco smoke bothers me even if itvis outdoors. My husband is inclined to tell someone to move away from us if they are going to be blowing their smoke around. I will start coughing and eyes tearing before I even notice what is causing it.
I still think online reading can help understand our medical problems and also at time maybe protect us from a bad decision or encourage a second opinion.

yesterday I did a 15 min warm up on the elliptical, showed 160 calories burned. not sure about accuracy but I go fast and have the resistance pretty high. a 33 min premix from chiseled upper body and then core 1. about an hour total. thought we'd road ride this morning but no one moved quickly so another indoor workout. the garden work has to get done early. our back yard is a microclimate that holds a lot of heat in the afternoon. good for vegies, not good for working.
I harvested some yellow beets yesterday. they were very easy to grow. roasted one last night. it was very good. not as sweet as the red ones and no messy stain either. I peel and slice into about 1/4 inch slices. roasted with a bit of olive oil. so good! I will know to thin the plants more carefully next year. an easy crop. I don't know how long they will keep in the frig. they almost heave themselves out of the ground so not even any digging.
I think docs nowadays expect people to research their problem on the internet. yes, you need to be careful to use reputable sites, and be prepared to be wrong. anyone who wants to can set up a site ( the Wi-fi degree) and make outrageous erroneous misleading claims. false assumptions can delay finding out what the problem really is.

Deb that sounds like a rewarding ride. I am not good on facebook either. special hatred toward cigars. so foul stinky.

Carolyn there is a company that makes fig preserves, a plain fig, and one with orange. they are very good. I serve them with crackers and warm brie as an appetizer. have surprised a lot of people with how good the fig preserves are, and use it as a small gift for people who like them. may be seasonal, I see it mostly in fall winter but that might be when stores promote it. I have only seen fresh figs a few times . Iooked to see if I had a jar to give you the brand name but I can't find one. home made is likely better but I settle for this. small jars, and very tasty. I don't care for fresh figs but enjoyed this.
went to amazon https://www.amazon.com/Dalmatia-Spr...3486383&sr=8-4&keywords=fig+jam+and+preserves
it is this one. I jar was around $3-4 locally but if you can't make your own, this one is good.

Today is my rest day. Valerie, I have purchased that brand of fig preserves in the past and I like it. I serve them with cheese and crackers also. Figs are definitely seasonal and the season is short. They are fragile when ripe which is one reason that they are hard to find.

I like to research medical issues but I am careful about how I present the info to my doctors. I don’t want the “oh another one of those...” reaction so I don’t usually say that I saw it on an internet site :).

Hello to everyone and I hope you have a wonderful day. Thoughts and prayers to you Lori.

Valerie, I have yard work to be done too, but nothing like tending a garden. I bet the yellow beets being fresh picked was delicious. I was wondering if I could find some pre-packaged ready to cook varieties for when I am in a hurry. Loren Cordain's Fast Paleo cookbook made suggestions for making the meals faster and mentioned them. I was surprised that they didn't have any at Sprouts. I wonder if you can freeze beets. I only remember my mother and grandmother canning them. They were still better canned than what you actually buy in a can.

Carolyn, I bet cream cheese and fig jam would be a good topping for something. I have taken dates and split them and put a little cream cheese in them when wanting a sweet treat and they are good that way. I have seen them done that way and rolled in unsweetened coconut. I am careful how I do not say much about researching to the doctor either. I asked a couple of questions this time. He explained to me why my fingers lock up. I didn't realize it was due to inflammation and fluids in the area. I am really trying to work on my diet. More fish and plenty of veggies. The biggest thing is sweets and my bit of dairy as in cream and butter. True Paleo should really not have even stevia in it. This also alters the type of protein powder that I use to get away from stevia and whey.

I am fairly new to beets but I think the texture would be bad after freezing them. usually you need to cook things briefly ( blanche) before freezing and I think beets would be mush if you froze them and then tried to cook after. I don't like many vegies after freezing and stick to whatever is in season and fresh.

the golden beets are common here in the vegie section at QFC... a Kroger brand store. maybe they were here all along and I never noticed them until this year. they look like huge fat round carrots- on- steroids and usually in a bunch of 3-4 with some tops rubber banded together for about $2.50. I had no idea they would be easy to grow here. we have pretty mild temps comparatively. they might bolt in hot temps.
I'll cook some more and see how they hold uncooked in the frig. root vegies usually keep for at least a few weeks. I didn't thin the plants enough, many are small. next year I will know better. they get to be about 3 inches in diameter and seem to lift themselves up out of the dirt.

I've used the fig preserves with brie and mild cheese like Havarti. I have been getting crackers that are Leslie Stowe brand. really different and very tasty. they have dried fruit and nuts in them, and are sliced very thin and sort of crunchy/ chewy. not the usual salty ones. they go nicely with cheese and the fig preserves.

did a 15 min fast session on elliptical, then MM biceps. not a long workout but fine for today.

Good morning,

No workout yesterday.

Diane Sue, sorry you could not see the whole post. The picture was awesome. I wonder why that was? Oh well, like I said, I am not that savvy with FB.

Valerie, those beets sound good. I don't think I have seen them in stores, but probably passed them by since I really have never made even the red ones. Roasting them sounds great.

Hi to Carolyn, Judy & Lori,

Take care,

Deb-I couldn't see the photos or the post either. I think you have your FB settings so that only your FB friends can see your posts and photos.
I'll be back later to post more.

Deb I also only saw the dog pics. I don’t use Facebook much either and am fairly dumb about it.
The golden beets are in the organic vegies at both stores I use , but organic and “regular” kind of run together these days. Mine grew fine without needing any chemicals.

I did 15 on the elliptical and mm biceps yesterday.

ETA beets and swiss chard are related. I have trouble with swiss chard leaves getting leaf miners, so when it grows I put a fine gauze fabric over to keep the butterflies out. they lay eggs on the leaves and they hatch into leaf miners that burrow through the leaves.
the beet leaves got them but it didn't interfere with the roots getting big. the golden ones are much less sweet than the red ones. I plan to try the ones with the white and pink circles inside if I can tell them apart from the solid red ones. the yellow ones don't stain your hands, the cutting board, and if they color your pee , it is not noticeable. the red ones do all those things, plus are too sweet. I would try mixed ones if I had the chance.

Deb, I think it may be that if your facebook settings have only friends can see, it would be only ones that you have friended that would be able to see. I am not sure though. I am not that good with facebook either. I guess Judy already said that :)

Valerie, Sprouts sometimes has different colors of beets banded together for a rainbow of beets.

This morning I did Coffey Fit Raw Cardio Weight Tabata that Kelly just put up. I liked it :) Workout was 43 minutes and calories burned 276, heart rate 111 average, 155 max, 1,102 steps. This is all for today. I am going to be staining new doors at our church gym.
Cardio Weight Tabata 43 minutes, each exercise & cardio is 4 rounds 20 work 10 rest I used 35# barbell, they use 33# barbell and 15# dumbbells as the other option. They switched back and forth with each other.
high pull / squat kick 4 rnds 35#barbell
clean from hip/skate 2 scissor 3 4 rnds 35# barbell
push press/shuffle 4 jack 2 4 rnds 35# barbell for 3 rnds 15# dbs 1 rnd
hang clean & squat/monkey crawl 35# barbell 4 rnds
deadlift curl/knee slap 3 times punch 35# barbell 4 rnds
Mat for final segments on the floor at 24 minutes
down dog pike 2 rnds push up pike 2 rnds/prone superman with arms reach and pull 4 rnds
sit ups/ bridges/ reverse crunch
stretch

Today I did 4 Day Split Low Intensity Step Plus Shoulders, Core, and Calves. The step portion was 32 minutes with 234 calories burned. My average heart rate was 129 and maximum heart rate was 149. The strength segment was 35 minutes and 108 calories burned. Average heart rate was 99 and maximum heart rate was 133.

Diane Sue, great job with Coffeyfit Raw Cardio Weight Tabata. I find that it’s easy for bad eating habits to sneak in if I’m not careful. I try to be aware of foods that can increase inflammation, but I don’t follow any specific eating plan other than WW. I’ve tried cutting back on baked items the last two weeks. I start feeling very sluggish when I over indulge.

Hi to Deb, Valerie, Judy, and Lori.

we rode our regular mt bike route. took us 1 hr 40 min. it used to take us 2 hours. some of the difference is dry dirt is a lot faster than mud. not slippery going over roots and logs either. it was a pleasant temp. we were the only people there.
pain in my shoulder is a lot better. I'm trying to amp up the upper workouts slowly and carefully. I did the rock em sock em warm up and then MM triceps. music on this one drove me nuts too. I think I will just go to voice only on all recent workouts.

Good evening ladies,

I finished SB’s Challenge on Sunday plus did a couple of BBS’s bounces. They were new and I enjoyed them. This morning I did Kelly’s Raw Barre and Bands. I chose to use dumbbells instead of the bands and went heavy. Loved this workout! I followed up with a SB’s Advanced Quad Intensive Bounce (not the name but what it should be called! Lol!) finised with Bellicon Booty Bounce.

The service is Saturday and we flying out on Thursday. My son is defintely going but unsure if my husband can. He has a huge event on Friday that he has been planning for several months. He is running the show so we do not see how he can not be there. We booked the flights and will keep our fingers crossed.

Deb...what an accomplishment! 540 miles! Years ago after my mom passed I rode in the Pan Mass Challenge for cancer. Did it 8 years in a row. 212 miles in 2 days. Can’t imagine 7 days of that. The first year I did it I was so emotional when I crossed the finish line. Good for your friend.

Diane Sue...the newest Raw did look good. Going to try it tomorrow. I do enjoy these workouts. I love she is just Kelly working out at home.

Valerie...I do not like figs or beets! :( I bet it felt great to get an outdoor workout in.

Carolyn...do you subscribe to Kelly’s site? I do enjoy her workouts. Most are short so I can tag on another instructor which you all know how I love doing that.

Hi to Judy!

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I KCM Cardio Pump workout 2 and today I did Build & Burn Cardio Core, then Core Max 1 and I finished with Jessica Smith Walk On 6 Mile Mix.

Deb-540 miles in a week is amazing! I bet it was emotional at the finish line.

Diane Sue-Nice job with the new Raw workout. Staining doors sounds like a workout too.

Carolyn-Great job with the 4 DS workout! I really like that series. I feel sluggish when I overindulge too.

Valerie-Nice bike ride! I'm glad your shoulder is better. I love MM Triceps! I do that one regularly. Sometimes I use the voice only option on the newer workouts too.

Lori-I will be thinking of you and your family this week. I hope your husband will be able to go with you.

It was extremely hot in the upper level of the gym. No air. I was happy when I got home 5 hours later and turned on some fans and got out a cold kombucha tea. I worked on the door staining while my husband and grandson worked on some other projects that needed done before school starts. I am kind of sore after all of the staining and workout today. I feel it in my lats and shoulders. Knees hurt. I took some Advil when I got home hoping to ward this all off.

Valerie, I never thought of swiss chard as being related to beets. I have not used it much. I sometimes save my beet greens and throw them in smoothies. But, then a lot of the time I just purchase the beets at sprouts with the greens cut off so I don't have them hanging out of the bag when I put them in the car. Funny, my grandson had me buy the carrots with the greens on them and I made a joke about Bugs Bunny and he didn't know what I was talking about. I bought a big bag of brussels sprouts and need to dig into my recipe arsenal . I know there was some in Whole 30 that had shredded brussels sprouts in it. I used to make a yummy salad of chopped up brussels sprouts with dried cranberries and pecans. I should find that recipe. I just like them roasted with pepper also.

Carolyn, I really try to avoid baked stuff. I make it for family, and sometimes my husband who tries to keep his weight off. We went to Charleston's for lunch the other day and I got a salad with chicken and had them leave off the croutons and bacon. They bought me a croissant. I was good though. I nibbled a bite and left it. Those things are so good. I thought, why would I ask for no croutons and want bread. Anyway, I guess they don't know unless I say something. I love step workouts and really do wish they didn't bother my knee a lot lately. It is one of my favorite things to do.

Lori, Kelly's bands and barre is really a fun workout. I did it as Kelly did it , but upper with weights is a nice addition. I still have a few that I have not done. I do like that the length usually leaves me time to do along with something else. It seems I have been rushed a lot lately. That is great that you did the Pan Mass challenge 8 years in a row. That is too bad that the timing is not good for your husband. It is understandable though if he cannot make it because of obligations. I am glad that your son is going.

Good morning

Yesterday I did Live Barbell Upper Body, 42 minutes, 220 calories. It felt good doing something. Sorry about the link not working. I think you are all correct, I remember my friend helping me set up my FB with settings that only allowed limited access.

Valerie, I would never had thought beets and swill chard are related. My brother grows swiss chard, they love it and eat it all summer. I don't remember you having recent shoulder issue, what happened? Glad it is feeling better.

Diane Sue, . That sounds a tough project to do. So nice that your family did this together. I hope your shoulders/knees are okay today. He didn't know Bugs Bunny? Were the brussel sprouts raw in that recipe? Sounds good.

Carolyn, love the weight work in 4 Day Split! We refer to that sluggishness that comes from baked goods etc as the "Carb Coma"

Lori, that is good that your son will be able to go with you to the service for Madeline. Hope Bob can go, but understandable if he can't with the situation you described. It sounds like she had wonderful friends and family. That is awesome that you did that ride for 8 years!

Judy, Nice job on the workouts! Yes, very emotional for the riders and spectators. They raised over $600,000.00 dollars.

Take care,

Deb my shoulder his been an issue for a few years now. some mild impingement syndrome issue. had a few cortisone shots. it comes and goes. right now it is decent so I am doing more upper body things. I never figured out exactly what sets it off but I've been doing bicep and tricep workouts and it's OK. feels like the front of my shoulder not the rotator cuff. that sounds like a great ride for a great cause. wish I could last that long on a bike. 540 is serious mileage. I did the warm up from rock'em sock 'em before doing the MM. . you could do premixes from that one that eliminate most leg work.

I'm sure swiss chard and beets are related. they look a lot alike too. chard is a good sub for spinach and survives warmer weather where spinach bolts in a second. I grow chard sometimes but haven't for a few years now. people eat beet greens cooked like chard, and when tiny leaves you can use in salads. I've worked my way through a lot of vegetables. depends so much on preparation, and how you were first introduced to a vegie. I never liked vegies as a kid. family over cooked things, and drowned things in cream sauce and sugar. I bought books and learned to cook . there are still vegies I don't like but often it is bad preparation even if I didn't like something, if I come across a new way to prepare it, I try it again. beets were like that! there are a couple spices I dislike. lavender, tarragon. ugh. no hope for those. lavender tastes like soap.

diane sue I thought Bugs Bunny and all the Disney characters were still popular. shows how much I know! My DH is a few years younger than I am and it's weird how different our memories of childhood books and TV are. each of us thinks our memories are shared by all but not always.

Lori again, my condolences. hope your DH can work out something.

Judy, I seem to just get overload on some of the music when I started repeating the same workouts. a few times were OK, but I reach tolerance limits quickly when I redo.

Today I did Cathe Live Step Groves Timesaver, 35 minutes, heart rate average 148, met 6.3, max 175, 243 calories, 3,345 steps. My Fit Bit gave higher numbers than map my fitness today. I then did Cathe Live Low Impact Conditioning Express, 38 minutes, 246 calories, met 5.9, heart rate average 121, max 177, 1,436 steps.
Total time was 73 minutes, 489 calories. I have to run errands and do catch up after having three days of other things to do.
Low Impact Conditioning was a nice variety of cardio moves incorporating gliding discs for moves, 5,8,10,12# dumbbells. All of the moves kept you moving. I think that I will try a kickboxing workout tomorrow. I was wondering how the older 2014 Hard Strikes Low Impact is.

Debbie, the brussels sprouts were raw. I always blanched them before using them though, because I thought they tasted better. I have also purchased frozen Brussels sprouts and thawed them for the same purpose, no cooking and it worked well for a salad. I will see if I can find that recipe. I can't remember if it was from a vegetarian cookbook that I had, maybe one that the woman cooked for Tony Horton, or Tony's book. That is where I think it is. I have to check my ipad, as those books are on my old ipad(at least I hope they are still there) I need to educate him on who bugs bunny is. He is 7 and not a huge cartoon or animation fan. Right now he is obsessed with watching fishing and noodling. He loves monster trucks and shows with science stuff. Creative things.

Valerie, I remember purchasing either swiss chard or collard greens and getting them a bit wilted to make lettuce wraps because they held together better than other lettuce. I quit doing it, because I decided they are hard to eat and you get the same thing with the ingredients dumped in a salad bowl. I don't care if they are a "sandwich".

This morning I did Cardio Core Circuit, the express premix, for 34 minutes and 246 calories burned. Average heart rate was 132 and maximum heart rate was 157. The express premix doesn’t repeat the cardio rounds a second time. That makes this workout more doable for me.

Lori, that sounds like a great mix of workouts. I’m not very good with mixing different workouts together. I didn’t subscribe to Kelly’s Raw streaming. I didn’t think I would use it enough. That’s too bad that your husband won’t be able to get away. Maybe something will work out for him.

Deb, I’m glad that you got the Live Barbell Upper Body done. I always feel better after I get some kind of workout done. Carb coma is a good description of the after effects. I try to eat a lot of green vegetables and limit the carbohydrates to avoid that feeling.

Judy, great job on your workout. I was tempted to do the KCM Cardio Core today and add something else to it. I decided to challenge myself with Cardio Core Circuit instead.

Diane Sue, that’s wonderful that your family helped to get the school ready. That’s a workout of a different type!

Valerie, it’s good that you are able to do more upper body workouts again. Shoulders are tricky and so easy to injure. I love Swiss chard. I tried it for the first time about 3 years ago. That wasn’t one of the greens that was common in the south and I rarely saw it in the grocery stores.

Have a wonderful day everyone.
