Good morning,

I got the new KCM yesterday so I plan on doing one of those workouts today. A nice day yesterday, good agility class with Keegan, went for a manicure with my cousin, then John and I went to see a play by a play write that was born here and does plays about the city. It was hilarious!

Lori, do you use your desktop computer to make workouts with the blender? I don,t think I could do it on my iPad but would have to play them on the iPad.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Hi,

I left this on the open forum where there is a thread on the new KCM Tabata stye workouts:

I just finished workout #1...Loved it!! My style of Tabata! I hope workout #2 is just as much fun. :) The time just flew by. I think it's because she does weights in between the Tabata stuff and it makes it doable for me. Also very easy to modify for those that don't want to jump...I have to say Kelly has outdone herself with these last 2 DVD's!

Can't say enough about this....great workout. What is also nice is that you can make it more difficult with upping the weights you use. I went light for my first time, not knowing what to expect. I used 7's and 5's. The shoulder work with 5's was a killer! I would probably up to 8's for the heavier exercises next time.

The sun is shining here but it's only about 15 degrees...brrrrr...

More HouseMax today.

Take care,

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did RK (55:16) with 1 lb. gloves.

Deb, it's great that you found workouts you love to do! I don't know how the weather is in Buffalo, but it's freezing here, and the wind is roaring. Ugh! We even had a dusting of snow. I did my shopping this morning and my paper towels went flying off the cart when I left. Going to comfort Sunday again: "Toad in the Hole" is the first course, which is apparently an egg yolk with green tomatoes and Asian greens; then bacon and waffles with braised kale and maple syrup; dessert is a seasonal Lassi, which I probably won't get.

Stay warm!

Good morning... I did 20 on the treadmill, core 1, and a shortened version of Bi's /tris. probably had an hour before dinner and it worked nicely. our basement is really cold when we use the woodstove instead of the furnace, and I need to warm up on the treadmill before doing weights.

planned on hiking this morning but it's quite cold here even though it's sunny and we just didn't get moving. DH bought a new chainsaw and is having a great time sawing up a big tree, so he was distracted.

Deb, glad you found a workout you love! sometimes it seems like there's something wrong with every one you try.... and need modifying. nice to stick in the disk and do it without needing to contemplate changes.

My washing machine is on it's way out... leaving a pile of black shavings underneath. it's old (1995) so no plans to repair. I've been researching and will likely get a high efficiency top loader without the big agitator. LG brand was very highly rated and reviews are stellar.
anyone have any thoughts? what do you use and like?

Good afternoon ladies!

This morning was Rockout. Was going to do the heavy bag too but felt I had had enough.

Absolutely no walking Chester today. It is soooo cold here too Lynda and you are right the wind is unbelievable. I could dress warm enough but I would not want Chester out in this weather for a long period of time.

Lynda...enjoy your comfort Sunday!

We are about to cook some steak on the grill and then light a fire and rent a movie. That is our day today.

Deb...I agree with Lynda and it seems KCM works for you. The new one seems to be getting great reviews.

Well I have all the STS squat rack downloads ready to purchase. Just need to be really sure I want them. My craigs list squat rack is being delivered on Thanksgiving so I am sure I will click purchase at that point!

Hi to Judy, Josie and Valerie!

Hi Everyone,

Very cold here too, no fun going outside :(

Today was a rest day, we had our family Thanksgiving at FIL's house. It went very well. SIL is taking a caregiving class and has really been learning alot about how to deal with her father's issues. I think she is going to be taking a more active role. DH and I are happy about that since FIL does seem to be declining.

I ordered the Power Hour + Maximum Intensity Strength + Body Max DVD
when it was the deal of the day last week. I'm hoping to get it before Thanksgiving. I'm also thinking of splurging and getting a few downloads for the workout blender.

Valerie-our washer and dryer is older too, but still working. I don't have any experience with the newer models.

Hi to Deb, Lori, Lynda & Josie!

Judy

Good morning all,

did a Cardio Coach this morning and it really felt good. I need to remember this when I talk myself out of working out in the future.

Garance, it's freezing here too, I think it was around 15 at some time yesterday, and the wind was bad too. How was Comfort Food Sunday?

Valerie, we need to start looking for a washing machine too..ours is leaking with every wash, not a lot, but it's getting worse all the time. I am not up on any of the new fancy stuff out there. I definitely want a top loader, those front loaders do not do anything for me..LOL. I just want one that is a large capacity, I do a lot of couch covers etc. John doesn't like LG brand for some reason....no real thing, I think he read something years ago, which doesn't apply here, but once he is sour on a brand, there is no talking him out of it. We will have to start looking soon though. Let me know if you decide on the LG...maybe put a link to the one you are thinking of here?

Lori, I think you will like the squat rack workouts, especially if you have a "real" squat rack to use. That makes a big difference.

Judy, glad your dinner went well, and good to hear that your SIL is taking more of a role in the care of your FIL. That is so good for both you and your DH.

Hi to Josie,

Work, then class tonight, then off for the rest of the week, however much work there is to do Thanksgiving for 19 people, it beats working!

Ta for now!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Lean Legs and Abs (49:22).

Valerie, we have a front loader washer, and knowing that you want a top loader, I didn't look at the brand. We like it a lot, though.

Deb, we have a LG refrigerator that DH has "issues" with. He did have our "Appliance Doctor" come and do something about the automatic ice dispenser to stop it from getting jammed up and now he's happier with it, but I doubt we would get another LG appliance. Instead of the Comfort Sunday meal, I decided to go with 2 appetizers at the same price. I had a beet salad and P.E.I. mussels in a spicy Thai curry sauce that I sopped up with some crusty bread--heavenly! DH liked his comfort Sunday meal, which was a good deal fattier than mine. 19 people is a LOT to prepare for. We have only 6 counting us, so it will be relatively easy. It's still cold here today, but not so windy.

Judy, I still have all of those old workouts on video and used them a lot. Body Max is a real killer if you do the whole thing. I loved Power Hour, which I remember being a high rep, low weight workout. It does the job.

Hi to Lori and Josie!

Hi Ladies,

I did a 42 mile ride yesterday. We have had cooler temperatures in LA, but nothing compared to what the rest of you ladies are experiencing.

It is funny that our appliances keep breaking down at the same time. We had to replace our washing machine a couple of months ago. We just replaced it with the newer model of what we had before. We have a Kenmore high capacity top loader. The old one lasted 15-16 years.
We bought the washer and dryer at the same time and the dryer is fine.

Deb, glad that you are doing your workouts.

Judy, I'm glad you SIL is contributing more time to take some of the burden from you and your DH.

Hi to Valerie, Garance, Deb and Lori!

Josie

Good morning ladies...

I actually ran this morning. Been a while. Just didn't feel like anything else. No work out tonight. Came home and DH had ordered chinese so of course I had some and then some wine. :). Tomorrow is another day!

Funny about the washing machines. Mine is on the verge of dying. Pretty much have a lot of duct tape holding parts. It just keeps going. We will be redoing our wash room and adding a half bath next spring. Will be purchaing a new one then. Will be interesting to see what you end up with Valerie.

I have about 6 of Cathe's vhs videos. I have a little gadget I bought on amazon to convert them to dvd since I do not have a vhs player any longer and the ones I have she has not converted to dvd. I still pull out Mega Step Blast from time to time been a while though.

Lynda..I have power hour and I am embarrassed to say I have never done this one. Bought when it came out before I was interested in weights thinking some day I will like it. Need to fit it in my rotations.

Josie...great job on the ride. How did your foot feel after this one?

Deb..enjoy your time off!

Judy...still have not hit that button to buy the downloads! I most likely will cave on wednesday when I am off. As I know I will want to try out the squat rack.

Good morning all,

We had a nice class last night, fun with the dogs, and nice when you know you do not have to go to work the next day. Finally getting a day off. This will be my only day to relax, until the craziness begins. I will be meeting my friend for breakfast this morning, which will be a marathon breakfast as they usually are.

Garance, cudos to you for being able to not have that comfort food dinner! Food for 19 people isn't the hard part, it's the seating, Moving all the furniture in my living room, and setting up enough tables and chairs to seat 19 in there is the hard part. It only happens once a year and we have a nice time once we get it all together. I appreciate my family more and more each year. I guess that comes with getting older? It will be sad, and very emotional for us, as this will be the first Thanksgiving we have ever had where my aunt has not been there.

Josie, great job on the ride! Yes, it is strange that we seem to have appliances going at the same time.

Lori, I have Power Hour, Maximum Intensity Strength, Body Max, but I think I did each once and forgot they were there! Not sure if there are even premixes on those. We have a gadget that converts LP albums to CD's...didn't know there was one that converts VHS to DVD. Wow, there is a gadget for everything! I still have all the first original 6 Firm workouts on VHS. In both Beta and VHS format!

Valerie, good luck washer hunting! Let us know what you end up with. I dread having to do that, but will have to soon.

Judy, are you off any days this week?

We are supposed to get a bad storm this afternoon/evening...I hope they are wrong!

Will check back later,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did RPS #1 (53:42). Almost have it down. If I did it more often I would know it by heart. I just hesitate a bit on the final put-together. It is a really, really fun step workout.

Enjoy your mini-vacation, Deb! What size turkey do you get for 19 people? I used my Firms so many times I grew sick of them. I donated them to the library. I think they are out on DVD now, but I'm not tempted.

I went to see 12 Years a Slave yesterday. It is a beautiful and moving film. There are these incredible moments of stillness where the director really manages to force reflection and empathy in my view. Also, the contrast between the beauty and serenity of the southern landscape in harsh juxtaposition with the brutal episodes. Superb acting by everyone. I feel like this is the year of survivor films. My rating is that this one gets a A+, followed by Captain Phillips at A-, then Gravity, a solid B, and All is Lost, C+. Too many unanswered questions about the last two, some of them stupid, such as, "So when does she get to pee?" and some of them quite appropriate: "Doesn't anyone know what his plan was?" and if not, why not? Just seemed royally dumb of him to not have anyone aware of his plans and looking for him.

Lori, I bet you would really like Power Hour. If I remember correctly, it's a total body workout and 56 minutes. Very straightforward and enough reps to make it hurt, but then it's over.

Wow, Josie, 42 miles is stupendous.

Hi to Valerie and Judy!

Strange about all these washing machines preparing to die simultaneously! My previous one leaked water and we replaced the innards, but it didn't last enough longer to be worth it. Now that I've researched and prepared and gotten other opinions.... it's a sure indication this machine will limp along for another 2 years!
I don't know if Home Depot and Lowe's are national chains? I think so. there's a local appliance place I'd like to buy from but they don't carry LG and that's my choice. Consumer Reports ranked it highest too, but I skimmed several hundred product reviews, and they were overwhelmingly positive. I went to the Lowe's website and looked up several machines and started reading what owners said. I need to look at the machine because apparently short people have trouble reaching the bottom of the tub. I like to use the tub for soaking things and I can't do that with a front load. I was all set to go with Samsung until I read reviews and there were a few serious issues for enough owners that I decided against it.
Deb, the high efficiency top loaders don't have a big agitator so that makes their capacity HUGE. I want that for doing comforters and king size bedding.

http://www.lowes.com/pd_525683-4931...ar|1&page=1&facetInfo=LG|Samsung#BVRRWidgetID

tried to post a link. there were 3 machines 4.3,4.5,4.7 that were close in size and price so will need to look in person.

Josie 42 miles.. fantastic. we rode 16 miles the other day and it was enough. hard to get used to riding when it's close to freezing outside. we did a snowshoe yesterday for close to 6 hours.

Good morning,

Busy day today, getting as much ready for tomorrow as I can. We make one turkey today, ( about 18 pound) then one tomorrow ( 21 pounds). The one today will be all carved and ready to reheat and add to the one tomorrow. That is the only way to get enough for dinner and leftovers for anyone that wants to take some.

Garance, it sounds like that movie will be the Academy Award winner! I agree, I did the Firms so many times too, I wouldn't do them today. Especially the first one, I think back then when I first got it, I did it every day! They were the first I remember doing a "pre-order" so that they had money for production. They were $50 at the time and I thought that was really expensive, which for a taped routine, no premixes etc it was.

We have about 3 inches of snow on the ground now...still supposed to get more. Well it's finally winter right?

Valerie, good luck with your selection for the washing machine etc. You did a lot of research, so you should be getting a good one. I usually just go to the store and find one that looks reasonable, has large capacity, ( same reason as you, I wash a lot of throws, comforters, couch covers etc), and that's it. The one we have now is a Whirlpool, and it is about 10 years old. It has done it's job and we need to start looking again.

Hi to Josie, Lori, & Judy,

Have a nice day!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Burn Sets ch, ba, sh (50:43).

Deb, I agree it's best to get as much done today as possible. Made my pumpkin flan this morning and plan to do my sausage dressing tonight. DH has two very large chickens in brine, ready for the oven tomorrow. I made a lasagna for tonight yesterday when my two hungry sons plan on showing up. My daughter-in-law is in China doing something for Google, so she won't be here.

Valerie, good luck on your washer plans! We have a soak cycle on our front loader and DH uses it all the time for his farm wear and I use it for Max's bed. It seems to work fine.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Hi Ladies,

I went spinning yesterday and today and will be going to a body pump class tomorrow. My family is coming over to my house, but everything is ready:). It is nice to be retired :)

I will be going to Fresno to take care of my grandkids on December 1st through the 8th. I can't wait! My DB is going with me, so we plan on exploring Fresno while the kids are in school. I also plan on doing T-25 while I'm there.

I want to wish all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving! Enjoy your families and friends.

Josie

Hi ladies!

Last night I did all three Cathe Heavybag workouts. Think it is about 42 minutes. This is a total body workout! Tonight is either LLA or Great glutes.

Lynda...I agree with everything you wrote about 12 Years a Slave. I saw it on Saturday. Unbelievable. I thought the director was amazing and so thought provoking. Several times I had tears in my eyes. The performances were amazing.

Deb...smart to get as much done today as possible.

Josie...have fun with the grand kids!

Valerie...good luck with the washer. We have both a lowes and home depot here. I always shop both before I buy. Sometimes Best Buy has good deals. Not sure if you have any of these in your area.

Hi to Judy!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!

I was pretty sure Lowes and Home Depot were national .... their prices were the same, unless someone runs some kind of special sale, they meet each others price. Lowes is closer and need to be sure they will take the old machine. we have Best Buy too.

Went mt biking this morning. a nice day and temps were mild. about 1 1/2 hours for a decent outside workout.

Now that I've researched and decided, machine is working fine and sounds fine.....figures. I'll slide it out every other week to keep track of any changes. I'd rather not have it die when it's full of water, or by leaking all over the place.

I have all the mentioned movies on my queue. will do my usual and wait until they are available for sale. Still, good to hear the positive reviews. there's a documentary type movie on Lance Armstrong being released soon too. I find him fascinating. not admirable or ethical, but interesting. I keep thinking, is it really cheating if everyone else is cheating too? with the secrecy ... how could anyone be sure? anyway, looking forward to that one too.

Deb, I can't imagine 19 people for dinner. I come from a tiny family. that is a LOT of turkey.

Hi Everyone,

My "Power Hour, Maximum Intensity Strength, Body Max" DVD arrived yesterday.
I didn't get a chance to preview it yet, planning to look at it tonight.
Monday I did Gym Style Legs. Tuesday I did a Spinerval and this morning I did Muscle Max and 20 minutes of core work.

I have the rest of the week off, and Monday too. My birthday is Sunday and I have scheduled a massage for Monday, my present to myself :)

Deb-That is a lot of turkey! I hope you and your family have a nice get together.

Valerie-I'd like to see the Lance Armstrong movie too. I just finished reading "Wheelmen: Lance Armstrong, the Tour de France, and the Greatest Sports Conspiracy Ever". I agree that Lance is an interesting topic. I still have the TDF DVDs from 99-05, though I probably wouldn't really enjoy watching them again.

Hi to Lynda, Lori, & Josie.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Judy
