Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 9/4

Hi Everyone,

Today I did an indoor ride, a little over 90 minutes. I was going to do a core workout tonight, but I think I will wait until tomorrow.

Deb-We decided to back off on the house hunting for now. I think we will be staying in our condo at least another couple of years. It makes more sense financially to stay put.

Lori-I'm glad you are having a good visit with Madeline. I know how hard it must be for you :( I haven't done a Jari Love workout either. I did order a couple of Jessica Smith DVDs from Amazon. I'll let you know when I start Meso 2. I'm thinking last week of October or first of November.

Valerie-Great ride! I agree, Jari Love does look almost emaciated in some of the photos I've seen.

Lynda-I think Fuji has a kindred spirit in Shadow :) We don't have a piano, but Shadow finds other way to "trip the light fantastic", and often times in the middle of the night. We've had to put child proof latches on the kitchen cabinets, as she will open them and proceed to "reorganize" things. Never a dull moment with her.

Diane Sue-I'm sorry about your allergies and lack of sleep :) I hope Gertie is ok. It's a good idea to hold off on the heart worm and Frontline. I always like to keep an eye on the cats when I give them their heart worm treatment.

Hi to Carolyn, Josie & Caitlin!

Judy

All of this talk about corn dogs :) I have state fair brand corn dogs in my freezer for grandchildren. We have had them around for years. They were a daycare favorite. One of my grandson's was on a gluten free dairy free diet to see if it would help his stomach issues and we found a recipe to make our own. They were really good. When I buy hot dogs I always buy the uncured. I like Applegate hot dogs or Buffalo Guys Bison hot dogs. I eat them once in awhile with homemade garlic jalapeno sauerkraut.

Deb, it looks like your weekend will be full :) I wish our jury duty was like that. I went to Sprouts today and picked up some nutrition bars to take with me next week.

Judy, I have bought Yogi tea bags in ginger and really liked it.

Valerie, I don't mind those bear crawls but each time I have done the Ice Metabolic Total body I have came out with shoulder and neck pain. I went lighter this last time and it still happened. I am going to have to pay attention and figure out which move is bothering me so I can fix it. I wish Jury duty was that short of a drive. It is funny how I run into people that had never been called for jury duty and me being called a lot of times. My husband has not been called. They would not use him either. I put my ginger in a small container and put it in the top small shelf of the side by side freezer. I always know there is a piece there. The sherry is a good idea too. I should try some ginger tea. I think I am now getting a cold on top of the allergies. My husband has one too. There are times when I think that Jari Love looks too thin and other times I think she looks good.

Carolyn, I make kombucha tea sometimes and once it is ready to put into the bottles I put a piece of ginger and a few raspberries in the bottom and pour it in. Then refrigerate it. I would just strain it when I put it in a glass. It really is good. I need to get another scoby and do that again.

Lori, I wanted to do Strengthen and Stretch Advanced workout today but ran out of time before I had to leave. It is still sitting in my dvd player. Maybe I can get it in tomorrow. I was at my daughter's one day and my grandson was doing bear crawls through the house. He said they had them do that for football. I remember when he had practice when he was younger and they had the boys out doing them across the field.

Lynda, I remember when poor Mudd would try to get into her crate with the cone on and kept hitting it on the opening. I felt sorry for her. It appears our jury duty is not planned out like that. I am just hoping it is over quickly.

Good morning,

I didn't end up going for the set up....I called my DR and told the nurse that I was not feeling better, even with the doubling of the meds...she said she would speak with the DR and call me back...so I stayed home to wait for the call. He thought I had not given it enough time and wants me to continue with meds...but also have an appointment with a GI DR on the 20th. Just in case I need to have any procedure done, I will have established a DR for that. Fun.

Valerie, good tip on the ginger....I have never bought fresh. Definitely not a slacker! You would think in a place like Seattle with the driving and parking issues, that someone in the jury selection administration would have adopted the call in process by now...its so much more efficient and less stressful for the people. I don't think I have ever seen Jari Love.

Carolyn, thanks for the info on making ginger tea. I have been looking around the net and there is info for both sides, some say good for heartburn, some say ok, but too much can take it in the other direction and make it worse! Maybe I should start with a already made up ginger tea, so not as strong as making fresh.

Lori, so nice that you can spend some quality time with Madeline. Your love and support is exactly what she needs now.

Lynda, thanks for the review of the recent Live...those cats sound like a riot to watch...:).

Diane Sue, I hope Gertie feels better! Have you tried turkey instead of chicken? My vet says chicken is a "hot" food for dogs...I guess he means for inflammation and/or allergies. What is kombucha?

Judy, LOL on Shadow's nighttime antics!

Hi to Josie!

The trial starts this morning, I need to get there early since I am in charge of the ring crews...and showing Kylee right around 8:30....

Have a good weekend!

Deb, kombucha tea is full of probiotics. It uses a culture(the scoby) starter. Once you get started you save the new scoby from your first batch in a bit if the brew and refrigerate for next time. It takes around 2 to 3 weeks for the good bacteria to grow and use up the sugar and create another scoby. I always kept a second batch brewing while I used the first. You get organic tea to work the best. I like black tea for this. You brew it with sugar, cool and pour into a big jug like the old sin tea jars. Cover with a cloth that can still allow air in and I fasten it down with a large rubber band. Place it in a warm place around 78- 80 degrees and wait. You can buy it in individual bottles in the grocery store. Even Walmart carries it around here. My favorite, and one of the most recommended is GT's. I like the gingerade flavor.
I am sorry you are still having problems. I hope that they can find you some help so you do not need to continue the medication.

so this is a nice story..... my next door neighbor called late yesterday saying (very hesitantly) that they found an empty cat collar in their yard with my phone # on the tag. Puss lost his collar a couple days ago but he is fine. so I got to thank her and go pick up the collar. I'm sure she expected me to say Puss was missing. it's a break away collar and they come off fairly easily. I always get bright pink ones so they're easy to find. also found out Puss comes over to their house sometimes and eats their cat's food which is the same urinary care food I feed him at home. he has an unlimited supply here, no idea why he'd go to a neighbors house and steal food!. Cats! in the house, he never gets into anything or causes rearrangement of cabinets. the neighbors have 3 kitties so I guess Puss is more sociable than I realized.

I never looked at Jari Love workout... saw her pics in the Collage catalogue long ago. thought she looked dangerously thin. decided not to buy anything by her only for that reason. I know some people are thin by nature but she just looked starved!

the court I would be called to is in Everett.. not as far as Seattle. not a ridiculous drive.... but I'd prefer a call in procedure. Expect I'll need to go in for some initial screening . My name had somehow dropped off the list, maybe because we moved a number of times but I guess I'm back on it.

Ice total metabolic has quite a few front raise type moves. I think it's easy to tweak or jerk something with those, so I don't go very heavy. I do most of it with 5's and 8's. I'm still cautious with the rt shoulder. in drop set pushups I do them on my knees, but more in # and slowly. I can do toe pushups again but still limiting the #.

diane sue, hope you dodge the bullet on the head cold. I haven't had one in a long time now and hope to continue the winning streak. so hard when someone else in the house has one to avoid picking it up. I agree too on holding off on pet meds if they are already sick with something.
I'm going to be gone this next week. we are going to the Glacier NP general area for some hiking and mt biking. I will check in if I am in a decent service area.

Hello Everyone,
I agree that Jari Love is extremely thin and looks like she needs more food! However, the workouts are good. I have the earlier DVDs up to Extremely Ripped 1000, but I wasn't moved to buy the later ones. I am truly a pear shape and the workouts helped me get much leaner legs than I thought possible. I did them three times a week with cardio on two other days.

Diane Sue I've never made kombucha, but I buy it from time to time. GTs and Reeds are the brands that I have tried.

Valerie I am the same with shoulder exercises and push ups--light weights and push ups on the knees.

No workout today. I had my investment club meeting this morning. It's a great group of women and we have been together for 16 years.

Enjoy the rest of the day.

Today I did Ice Bootcamp Circuit with the Blizzard Blast, 57 minutes, 400 calories (I used an in between burn from Map My Fitness and Cathe which was higher. For some reason the Fit Bit was giving a very low heart rate. I knew it was not correct. I looked when I was doing the box jumps and those burpee butt kicks and it had me at 116. It ended with me burning 225 calories. Map My Fitness was 478 and workout manager was 516. By feel I think I am close. I followed this with Suzanne Bowen Barre Amped Strengthen and Stretch Advanced Active Stretch 28 minutes, 62 calories. Total time was 85 minutes and calories burned 462. I pre-ordered Strong and Sweaty with the Downloads today.

Valerie, I go light usually 3# on those discus throw things Cathe does. I could see that throwing something off a bit. I had lightened up this last time. I am going to have to be careful. I like the workout though. I think I am due for a break. I bent over to tie my shoes a couple of days ago and my low back and hip on the right side went into some spasms. I was able to move and stretch it out and it quit. Today when I got to the end of Amped Advanced Stretch it was very painful in the same area. I tried working it out, but this time it was hard to stand and walk for awhile. I took Advil and went to the bank. I told my husband that I may go to Walmart. I did manage it because by then it started letting up. I don't know what that is all about. I have felt the hip flexors on that side being tight and have been working on that more.
That is a cute story about your kitty. It is funny how animals will go for another's food. I have had my dogs go for someone else dog's food that I know they would have turned their noses up at if I put it in front of them. That is great that you got the collar back and a bit of insight into your pet's personality. I don't always get all of the cold and flu viruses that my husband does. I think this time with my allergies being so bad my immune system my be a bit compromised.

Carolyn, I always thought that some of the other women that worked out with Jari looked in really good shape. She has a fairly tiny physique all the way around. It may be that she just doesn't build up really big. I can never seem to build up my legs but my upper outer thighs can hold fat really well o_O I put on fat and that is where it goes. I don't know if Jari came out with any more workouts since I last purchased. I kind of liked her boot camp because it was easy to use portions since it was set up in 10 minute sections. Also you a choice of doing your own cardio on a piece of equipment (the guy used a spin bike) or follow Jari. I could use some of those for different body part additions. I have a lot of her workouts. I never cared a lot for the dance one she did. I think there was a metabolic one that she did as well. One of the last ones I purchased just did not click well. It was a couple of years ago. The weight work was just not so good and she did tones of those crossback things on the step that hurt my hips and knees. I always ended up doing them on the floor.
