Good morning,

Got the beds weeded yesterday, all but the one that is mulched with stones...that is the toughest one to weed. Wow, September is almost over....this month flew by. Pretty soon we will be raking leaves....The play was great, it's the 3rd one by this Buffalo playwright..and it takes place in Buffalo in the sixties.

Valerie, great descriptions and visuals on the wildlife you saw. That is just amazing. :). It sounds like your aunt has a place that is good for her in this time. I don't trust pit bull breeds or mixes either...they scare me, I guess because of all the stories out there, and you never know where they came from. I know some can be nice, and have seen them, but not a breed for me.

Hi Lynda, Lori, Judy & Josie,

I hope everyone is having a great weekend,

Take care,

Deb we usually see lots of wildlife there, especially driving. sometimes you see more things that way because animals don't perceive cars the same as people and they mostly ignore you. we've seen loads of things hiking but usually at greater distance. things feel a lot "wilder" when you are walking, as compared to sitting in a car. didn't see any wolves or bears this time. we will be back , it's my favorite place.

when I helped my sister look for a dog, it was amazing how many dogs were pit bull mixes. I've heard the same, most are sweet and loving but I've heard the other side too. Her dog is in heat right now and she will get her spayed as soon as it's over.

Lori hope you hear soon about chester's unexplained weight loss. Needs follow up. could he have developed diabetes? it would account for losing weight and at 109 he was probably a bit over weight.... not being judgmental here. labs like to eat!.

Adult group homes are an alternative to nursing homes. we hope she will be OK there.

Did a Pedal power premix for 40m min and will do an upper body probably bi's and tris, after lunch. the last little shoulder twinges are gradually going away now.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did the leg premix including core work after every contrast blast (53:10).

It turned sharply cooler today and it sounds like fall weather coming up--but nice fall weather.

My vet friend is also very skeptical about pit bulls. She had a friend in vet school who was trying to administer a sedative to one and the dog just suddenly clamped down on his arm and would not let go. Tore a tendon, tons of stitches, and this dog was supposed to be otherwise pretty friendly and gentle. I know Judy likes that show "Pit bulls and Parolees" and I watched it once and felt more sympathetic to the breed after I saw it. They have such a bad reputation.

Valerie, I have only been to Yellowstone once, but it was so spectacular and so much wild life. My vet friend goes back in the winter quite often.

Deb, I will go see Grandma this afternoon and let you know what I think. Once again, it's not a terribly long film.

Lori, hope your conference goes well and you aren't too harried to enjoy yourself a bit too.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Hi Everyone,

Last night I went to the gym with DH and did some circuit training. Tonight I think I will do some core work. I will be starting the 3rd week of Meso 2 tomorrow. I ordered this for my home gym, after seeing a few people post about it in the STS challenge group:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YIOWY2G?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

Fall is definitely coming. It's getting into the 40's and 50's at night now and the leaves are turning.

Deb-I agree about the pit bulls. I don't think they are a breed for me.

Lynda-that's funny you mentioned "Pit Bulls and Parolees", I just bought season 7 on Amazon last night. I do like the show and I feel bad for the dogs, but I am also skeptical about pit bulls. I don't think I would be comfortable having one.

Valerie-There are many pit bulls and pit mixes in the shelters around Detroit and Ann Arbor too. When DH and I were going to the shelters and looking at cats we were amazed at how many pit bulls there were.

Hi to Lori & Josie!

Judy

I went back to the gym and did bi's and tris and core 1. Increased weight a little bit on a few moves but staying cautious. It all feels good now. I was so afraid I'd never be able to say this, but I have healed finally. enough work for the day!

Judy that's a fascinating piece of equipment. I have an incline bench, just a "standard" one with the black leather seat. we use it a lot. the reebok one looks much more versatile. Report back and let us know how it works.

I wonder about pit bulls. do the people who own them not neuter them so they stay more aggressive? there must be reasons why there are so many. unneutered male dogs will likely connect with every female in the neighborhood, and there you have it, lots of pit bull mixes. .

We're re-watching the last season of the good wife and are expecting a the new season from Netflix soon.

I got ambitious tonight and decided to do my STS workout instead of waiting until tomorrow. I did disc 19, Chest, Shoulders & Triceps.

Good morning,

Wow, Monday sure comes around quickly. Yesterday I did KCM's Cardio Pump. I finally weeded the last bed in the yard, sad that it is time to start putting away stuff.

Lori, I hope all goes well at the conference.

Valerie, where did your sister get the dog? Great that you are able to get back to normal workouts again.

Lynda, scary about the vet and the pit bull. I bet that type of thing happens more than we know with all breeds. Remember that show we used to watch where the guy went around NYC helping people with dog behavior problems? Do you remember the name? I wish it would have been continued for another season.

Judy, you're doing great with STS! That bench/step looks interesting, especially the storage part. A nice place for bands etc. Mine are hanging all over the place. :).

Hi to Josie,

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

All is going well and everyone is having a blast. We did casino night last night and oh so much fun! My coworker and I did manage a mani and pedi that the hotel comp'd for us. It was amazing...hot bamboo and some kind of wax...both used on hands and feet. I can only imagine what the cost of that was.

This morning more meetings then free time into the parks, golf or spa. You could choose what you wanted. I will be staying put to start packing. When I come back I'll post a picture of the floor plan of our room. You know it is quite large when you have a floorplan. 3 full baths! My DS and his GF are loving this.

Heard from the Vet and they do not know right now what to make of Chester. For his age his blood work came back amazingly good the DR said. I am told to give it a month bring him back to be weighed and if still losing they will start to dig deeper..more tests on his stomach etc. I do not know what to make of this. My DH and I will discuss when I return.

Off for breakfast..will check and and read posts later today!!!

I asked a question earlier but thought about it. people who own pit bulls want the dogs aggressive and fighting. they would not neuter them. This must make them aggressive every other way too, thereby producing lots of mixed breed pups. Deb, my sister bought the shepherd from a private party who raised show dogs. sister didn't especially want a 'fancy" dog but she wanted an adult, probably a shepherd. checked out shelters, newspaper, and none were found. all kinds of dog rescue groups too. she paid too much for the dog and the owners lied about vaccinations and the dog's age. she's a nice dog but is 6.5 years old. there were many dogs available.... many little tiny purse size dogs and then the other extreme, pit bull mixes. I had no idea it would be so hard to find a simple, medium size dog.

well, I am achy sore today. not my shoulder but about everywhere else. will road ride today, after a Costco run this morning.

Lori I think veterinarians probably approach this like other physicians. they start with a mental "list" of all causes of unexplained weight loss. then rule out as many things as possible. they are left with a few most likely things. Hope chester continues to do well.

Hi everyone--

I did both low impact hiit workouts together (50:08).

Deb, I really enjoyed that show. It was called "Dogs in the City." He was so good about helping people manage their dogs' issues. I still remember those two big bloodhounds that more or less ruled the household and how he managed to restore a level of dog decorum so they wouldn't be jumping up on counters eating the family meal or chewing on clothes, shoes.

Judy, that's an interesting bit of equipment, but way too high for me to use in step workouts. The highest I go any more on step is 6 inches, even when Cathe adds more risers.

Lori, it sounds like you are having a great time. I hope they can figure out why Chester is losing weight.

Valerie, are you sore from the tris, bis, core workout? That sounds so strange that someone who raises show dogs has not vaccinated one of their own.

I went to see Grandma yesterday and enjoyed it. If you are anti-abortion, homophobic, or never were a part of the feminist movement in any way, shape, or form, you probably would NOT like the film, because Lily Tomlin is a lesbian feminist poet whose granddaughter comes to her to raise the money for an abortion. Ally (Lily Tomlin) has lost her partner of 38 years awhile ago, is breaking up with a young woman who she feels is too young for her, and has cut up all of her credit cards (she makes them into a wind chime0 and paid off the last of the hospital bills from her partner's illness. So she doesn't have the money to help her granddaughter Sage. Essentially the film is about a day of struggling to raise the money and finally giving up to go to the mother, who is a successful business woman, but does not know about the pregnancy. There are some very funny episodes--e.g., grandma taking a hockey stick to the boyfriend who doesn't want to give Sage any money even though he is the father (they are both teenagers living at home), or trying to sell first editions of Betty Friedan or Germaine Greer, even though they have wine stains, considerably diminishing their value. It was barely 90 minutes long, but I love Lily Tomlin, and she is really good in this. End review.

HI Ladies,

I will be doing a workout from darebee.com today. I don't feel like going to the gym today. It has been so hot here in LA and makes it hard to outside.

Valerie, thank you so much for your donation to ALC and for supporting me once again. Glad that your shoulder is better, I always have to reduce weight on my shoulder workouts because I can feel a twinge on my left when I increase my weight.

Lori, glad that the conference is going well and that you have company. I used to go with my DH when he had to attend conferences but after a while it turned into a job for me and I decided to stay home.

Judy, I have two friends that have pit bulls and they are the sweetest dogs I've ever met and they are good with their kids. I also know one person that used to breed them and he never had a problem.

Deb, Monday is here, but at least you don't have to go to work :)

Hi to Garance!

Josie

The people my sister got the dog from were breeders. if they'd vaccinated the dog, it was not current. It sounded like they might have vaccinated themselves but didn't record it. my sister had it done at a vet. they lied about the dogs age. my sister doesn't do well on communicating without getting belligerent, so not sure exactly how this went. the dog is 6.5 and in a heat cycle so THAT wasn't done. she is getting her spayed as soon as she is out of heat. she wanted a g shepherd and this was the only one she could find but it was supposedly 3 yo, so anyone who would lie about age can't be trusted for any other info.

DH and I rode a 26 mile road ride today, weather was so lovely. didn't go until after lunch but very nice. plan on hiking tomorrow so thought I'd post now.

Josie you're welcome. I am happy to support you. Hope your brother continues to do well. I am moving forward on weights if I can. I want to go back to yoga as soon as we get done with traveling.

I put Grandma on my queue. I love Lily tomlin.

Good morning & Happy Tuesday!

Yesterday I did a Cardio Coach workout at the track, and visited work. All of my staff were in a safety meeting, so I didn't get to see them. I had a nice visit with my Admin though and saw some others.

Lori, that mani-pedi break is just what you needed. Good to hear that Chester's blood work came back with good results. Any chance of a worm or parasite of some kind? Not sure if that shows up in blood work? He eats fine and no vomiting or other stomach upset? I would be Googling like crazy and getting myself all worked up...probably not a good thing to do.

Valerie, hopes your aches are just regular ol' doms? that private person your sister got the dog from does not sound like a responsible breeder...you are right...they make sure their dogs are up on vaccinations and most of them do vaccinate their own dogs, because of cost and convenience. They do however keep track of them!

Lynda, thanks for the film review It sounds like a good movie...I would really like that show to be rerun on Prime...I wonder if the DVD's are available anywhere...or if they even had them out for sale at any time.

Josie, I can't imagine what it is like there....we are seeing all the news reports on fires in Ca now...more to the north though...right?

Hi Judy,

Getting a workout in, and hope to check off one of my inside projects from my never ending list...:)

Take care,

Hi everyone--

This morning I did ch, sh, tris with core 1 (47:58).

Busy cooking this morning. A very good friend is getting a knee replacement, and I made a big lasagna for when she comes home. I did this last time (this is her second knee replacement), and she so appreciated it. Flowers are nice, but an already cooked meal for her and her husband is better. Dh has also requested a birthday cake, and his favorite is my burnt sugar cake, so I made my burnt sugar syrup this morning and will make the cake tomorrow.

Deb, I know "Dogs in the City" was some kind of summer replacement show. I don't know if they put it on a dvd.

Correction on Grandma: The Lily Tomlin character is Elle. I misheard it I guess, but re-read the review.

Josie, I can't find your email request. It must have gone to junk mail or something. Send it again please. I watched the Emmys for a bit, and everyone was complaining about the temperature--close to 100 degrees on the red carpet. A lot of ruined fancy clothes I bet.

Valerie, when I first read "they might have vaccinated themselves," I thought "What? They gave themselves the vaccinations??! LOL when I read it correctly.

When do you come back Lori?

Hi to Judy!

Lori, Deb is right to mention the worm issue... I was thinking I did already because I was going on about my sisters dog and whether dogs are routinely wormed but definitely, if that hasn't been looked at, it should be. my sisters dog supposedly eats loads but is very skinny. I'm no expert on worms, but if my kitty seems skinny in spite of eating normally, I get a dose of the standard worm med for kitties, called Profender. It's a dab of liquid on back of the neck, not forcing down several cc's of liquid like it used to be. giving kitties meds is not like hiding a pill in a meatball for a dog! both dogs and cats can get a variety of worms and it surely can interfere and cause weight loss. I don't know if vets check for worms routinely or not. a long time since I had a doggie. Flea control used to be way less effective and my dog had to be treated for tapeworms annually because he had them. . It certainly does not hurt to question if it has been considered.

Lynda, I think most people appreciate a home made meal more than flowers. a big pan of lasagna is good for several dinners. Such a thoughtful thing to do!
this was the first time I learned dog breeders can access vaccinations and do the job themselves to save money. makes sense, but these people didn't keep records or weren't forthcoming about what had or had not been done and when. the dog wasn't chipped either. my sister is hard to deal with so I don't know which side is at fault...probably some blame on both sides. I put Grandma on my queue, love Lily tomlin. we are getting geared up for the good wife by rewatching the last season. can't do it for every series.

Did a hike today, it was 6 hours and quite hard. I am not as nimble as I used to be. I get up and down but takes a while. 6-7 miles, very rocky, uneven and a lot of elevation gain. it was a very busy day on this trail for unknown reasons. college kids going back to school in a couple days I think. I am whipped.

Good evening ladies!

Just wanted to pop on to say I was home. The conference was a great success and I am exhausted!!!!! Never worked out the entire time I was there. Just was no time. I was on the move all day and into the night. With all the work we did and running around I am ok with not doing an actual workout!

I'll read posts tomorrow and catch up!

Good morning,

The weather is beautiful and I wish it would be like this all year round.

Lynda, I agree, the cooking and having a prepared meal is better than flowers any day. :). I didn't watch the Emmy's but saw a clip of John Ham crawling up on the stage to get his award. What was up with that? I was glad he won but really? I can't find anyplace where it shows that they released Dogs in the City to DVD. :(. I am surprised with how people love dog stuff that that show was not more popular.

Valerie, that was some hike! 6 hours is amazing.

Lori, I am sure all the running around you did counts as a workout!

Hi to Judy & Josie,

Maybe a track workout this morning, then agility class later.

Take care,

Lori, all the business meetings I went to rarely allowed much time to do anything like exercise. I always thought the idea was to keep everyone busy from dawn until late to avoid people getting into trouble of all sorts.

Deb, such a cute pic.
the worst part of this hike (outside of the mobs of incredibly energetic college kids) was it is so rocky. very hard to walk. I won't do this one again, just too hard for me. we've done longer steep hikes but this one the footing is awful. I think classes possibly start this week or next Monday, and a lot of kids are back to college but not in class quite yet. there were way more people than it seemed there would be from the parking lot car count of 32 cars.
I saw that picture of jon hamm crawling up to the stage too.... anyone see that part?

think we will ride today. another nice sunny but cool pleasant day.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did RK with 1 lb. gloves (55:15).

I think Jon Hamm crawling up to the stage was meant to signify, "8 Nominations and FINALLY I get my Emmy." I didn't stay up long enough to see it either, but the clip was on the news. Not as bad as that soap opera actress who was nominated 20 times and never got her daytime Emmy. I think her name was Susan Lucci.

Deb, a cute pic of Keegan on his deck chair. I agree--lovely weather.

Valerie, that kind of footing can be tricky for me, too. I have to be so careful of my knees twisting. I have been slowly getting my House of Cards disks--one and two, then interrupted by films lower on my list--Chef and a fascinating documentary titled Tim's Vermeer, about an inventor who figures out how Vermeer painted with a camera obscura and a mirror. He paints a duplicate of Vermeer's Piano Lesson over several months after elaborately setting up every detail from seeing the painting. So now I get disk 4 of House of Cards, with the promise that disk 3 is coming soon from somewhere far away, so I can't watch 4 until I get 3. At least this season isn't as dark and conniving as the last one.

Baked my cake this morning and will have to frost it tonight.

Enjoy the autumnal equinox!
