Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 8/20/2023

Wednesday I did a 20 minute Peloton Tabata ride and 45 minutes of Peloton strength and core work.
Yesterday was an active rest day with yoga and stretching. This morning I did a 45 minute Peloton ride.

Cathy-Great job with Giant Sets Total Body. We had heavy rain and bad storms the past two nights. We are very fortunate that we did not lose power or have any flooding. There are a lot of power outages around us and also many areas are flooded. Canton is just south of us and they had severe flooding yesterday. Last night we had a tornado warning around 10 pm and spent an hour with our cats in the basement. The alert went off on my phone and apple watch and also storm sirens were going off. This was and is a common occurrence in Iowa but I think it's only the second time in the last 16 years that I have been here that we had to take cover in the basement for a tornado warning. It will be nice to have temps in the 70's for a couple of weeks.

Valerie-I wasn't surprised that Chris lost weight after surgery but I am surprised at how much he can eat now and is still maintaining that loss. Men are so different, you are right. Great job with the mountain bike ride,
therapy and x train core.

Carolyn-Great job with Cardio Quick Fix and P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body and Extended Stretch. I agree about cooking. It's much less stressful when I have several days worth of meals prepared ahead of time. I am going to try to keep this up.

Diane Sue-Great job with STS 2.0 Upper Body 1 Express #1, and Mat Yoga. I hope you have a wonderful birthday trip!

This morning I did P30 Perfect Pump Lower Body. My time was 36 minutes with 149 calories burned, average heart rate 115 and maximum heart rate 135.

Valerie, nice job with the bike ride, therapy exercises and XTRAIN Core. I read that same NY Times article about the sound problems when streaming. I have definitely noticed the need to constantly adjust the volume.

Cathy, good job with Total Body Giant Sets. It does seem like that workout is jinxed for you. I’m glad that you still have power.

Judy, great job with the Peloton rides, strength work, yoga and stretching. I saw the news reports about the bad weather in Michigan and the Chicago area. I’m glad that the tornadoes missed you.

Hello to Diane Sue.

Some days are better than other days with back discomfort. I dont call it "pain" because its a constant dull ache not really what I call pain. I get tired easily. the longer I walk the more I am uncomfortable. riding is still the best thing for me. to do. we were planning on riding tomorrow but it looks like we will have a smoke problem so may put it off a day or two. fires everywhere, speaking of other problems.

Judy those tornado warnings and 'general warnings" of intense thunderstorms were absolutely killer to me. I decided I could not live anywhere that had that occurring. I never liked traveling to Indiana for the company I worked for since it seemed like it would happen every time I was back there. yes, I wouyld spend time in the basement too. western US generally don't have that kind of storm. we have other problems! nothing is perfect.
yep, men are different. they lose weight in a heartbeat. so annoying. that's why WW works for me, mostly but not all women so more commonality. My DH can eat WAY more than I can and stay the same. I portion things with me getting half of what he gets. and hes not a real big guy.

Carolyn if you have access read the comments written to NYT about that article. that's where I really understood how many people have this problem, and how audio on old programs /movies works better. we started subtitles for british programs. we now turn them on regardless. nice to know its not our ears when some things are fine and other series and actors are total gibberish. its easy to ignore subtitles if you dont need them, glance down if you do. I will not be seeing Oppenheimer in theater tho I had hoped to. I go to a movie theater with ear plugs and wear them during at least part of movies. I expect louder sound, but not the level that blasts out your ear drums. there are some actors who mumble consistently, and not only (famously) marlon brando! Tom Hardy comes to mind immediately.

Just finished Boxing Hiit Express and STS 2 Mobility 1. My brother just got his power back, but I was looking at pics yesterday and there is so much damage. Some people may be days to get their power back. Especially outside the cities.

Valerie I hope the smoke clears enough that you are able to ride soon. Storms have gotten much more intense here just very recently. We've lived here since '97 and I don't think we've had more than maybe 3 times when we've had to go to the basement, and I don't ever remember a state of emergency being declared for the county before except for snow or ice storms years ago, though the worst of those was when I was a still a kid. We were in one year for a week before the ice on the roads melted. Same with the blizzards of '69 and '78.

Judy great job with 20 minute Peloton rides and 45 minutes of Peloton strength and core work, yoga and stretching. We didn't get any tornado warnings here even though there was a small one, if you can really call any small, in the county. The bigger ones were the other side of Lansing.

Carolyn nice job with P30 Perfect Pump Lower Body.

air is unpleasant today but we rode anyway. doesnt smell too smokey but very hazy. not good to breathe too hard for too long. did a closer ride than planned. no need to drive a long way when it's just for exercise. went pretty early and was a good choice since the trail got very busy by the time we finished. 15 miles an hour and fifteen. we have a warm day today and tomorrow and then it gets cooler and wetter. finally. lawns are dead and trees are dropping leaves. great year for tomatoes and corn and basil. beans should have done better than they did for no real reason.

no a "small" tornado would not generate much less fear! all depends if you and your house are in the path. we get most of our power outs and weather problems in the fall and winter. lots of trees and lots of branches bring down power lines and cause big power outs. too bad more power lines aren't underground but they aren't.

This morning I did my yoga/mobility workout for 18 minutes. Time just seemed to get away from me yesterday. I went to the Farmer’s Market early because of the extreme heat then I was home and inside for the rest of the day. I did a few things around the house. We are still having temperatures in the high 90’s with triple digit heat indices.

Valerie, I’m sure that the constant ache is very frustrating and you don’t want to make anything worse. It’s good that you can still ride.

Cathy, great job with Boxing HiiT Express and Mobility 1.

Hello to Judy and Diane Sue. Have a wonderful day everyone.
